13 12. Home

After packing all that we needed to, and selling our home in Wingbeat City, we went through an irritably long journey in carriage before we arrived at the Capital city.

With Slifer City undergoing reconstruction due to the Sentry, we had to go through a very roundabout route in order to reach our destination.

"The City of Sages, huh?" I looked to the two statues sitting cross-legged on either sides of the city gates, "I'm guessing these two guys used to be one of those sages?"

"Well, according to the books I bought about the city, that does seem to be the case," she said catching a glimpse of the statues herself before our carriage was allowed in.

"Why did you need to read up on its history," I pulled her hands in mine, "when only the geography would have been sufficient to find your mother?"

She gave me a brilliant smile, "Because I'd like for us to take a little break from both of our missions for a bit and see some places together. We never got a chance to do that all these months during our travels to complete our tasks."

Something like a tour, huh? I scratched at one of the stubs on my head. That did sound fun. I never really got a chance to do that back home. Just why had I been so serious all my life?

Not much later after we arrived in the city, we found and hired a few porters to pull all our stuff on their long cart, as we went about finding the home the guild had bought for us as a special reward.

I had a lot of assumptions about The Assassins' Guild, but I never expected them to be generous.

"Yeah, just leave them in the hall. We'll take care of the rest ourselves," Seraph ordered the porters after we finally found the place, received the key from the mansion's caretaker and entered it.

It was really lovely. Nothing too grand. It was a two-storey, with a small lawn out in the front and a wide pond at the back. Inside it was empty of all furniture, save for a large bed in the bedroom of the first floor, which had a bathroom built in. There were two more rooms on that floor, one of which seemed perfect to serve as both a library and a place to store our weapons.

The other we didn't really have a need for.

And back on the ground floor, most of the space was taken up by a single room. Every single corner within this room was reinforced with a pretty high level magic. It could easily stand up to all the shockwaves our practice duels generated. And ofcourse there was a rack for weapons placed right by the entrance.

The kitchen was decent and the hall cozy with even a fireplace in it, although currently it was too cramped up with all the things that we had brought from our former home in Wingbeat.

"I love this place," I said as I sat down on the floor.

"Same here," she plopped down beside me, our scales rubbed against each other and it was at that moment that I thought, 'This is home'.

I had never felt those words that strongly before.
