2 1. Commence Mission

The sun shone in my face. Bright and fresh. It was warm and calming.

Getting up on my feet, I looked at myself. Surprisingly, passing through the portal did not cause any injuries, just my clothes were mostly in tatters.

The scene in the sky was breathtaking. It was just beautiful white clouds for miles, and some mountains floating up in the distance. Winged creatures that looked like cursed hybrids between lions and vultures flew past, while others seemed to be a mix of jaguars and eagles, and even more that seemed to have been born from a breeding between cute tiny wolves and sparrows.

Around me were wreckages of ships, airplanes and even corpses of aquatic creatures from my home planet.

"So this is where they all ended up, huh?"

Still, it was surprising that these remained untouched and just sat here gathering dust... since thousands of years? Or perhaps since the first time anyone ever came across the Bermuda Triangle?

Had no one in this dimension noticed these? The winged creatures above probably did, but they simply flew by.

"First things first Taeyang, gather some samples!"

That was the mission assigned to me. Gather samples of anything living I could get my hands on, and learn as much as possible about this world for a decade.

The portal would then re-open at the end of that time duration, and I was to return to the same place I first arrived at, to go back home.

------------------------

I climbed through the wreckage, which was surprisingly less than it should have been, and found some clean ground. Large portions of the ground had scorch marks here though.

'Did they perhaps resort to burning the objects that were teleported from our world? Why didn't they burn them all then?'

With more questions popping in my head than I'd like, I kept walking and soon found a humongous herb garden at the far end of which were wooden huts and even farther, a coast.

'The Kaiju System is now active.'

Huh?

I turned around. There was no one behind me, then why did I hear a mechanical voice?

Kaiju System? Wait a minute... the surgery that was performed on me.

"Kaiju?"

'Any questions, Mr. Taeyang?'

So the voice was definitely in my head.

"Kaiju, what are you capable of?"

'Gathering DNA information from anything that's consumed by Taeyang's body and performing a physical and mental diagnosis of Mr. Taeyang.'

And that answered the question of how I was to preserve all the samples for a decade.

"Kaiju, perform diagnosis."

'Performing Diagnosis...'

Only a second later a screen popped in front of my eyes.

'Taeyang Kim.

Blood Type: B+

Strength: 150

Agility: 200

Physical condition: Excellent.

Mental condition: Focused.'

"That's... not as detailed as I expected."

'The Kaiju System is designed to not overload the user with too much data and to evolve as more information is fed to it.'

I guess that makes sense. Was never much of a good science or math student anyway.

The first herb that caught my eye in the garden was a 7 leaf clover, with each of the leaves a different colour of the rainbow.

Huh? That was interesting.

Plucking it from the bunch, I threw it in my mouth.

'Identifying the flora...

Specie: Unknown

Extracting DNA information...

Extracted.'

"Kaiju, what are its effects?"

'Effects: Increased comprehension,

Increased vitality.'

That sounded nice.

"Ohwi erau ouye regnartz?"

A woman with a blue scaled body walked up to me. Her ears were forked, eyes a pale pink, a glittering necklace adorning her and a long cloth tied around her waist the only piece of clothing.

"Huh? What do you mean?"

I slipped my hand into my pocket where lied a gun.

She simply glared. Then looked at the stalk of the herb I'd just consumed and then grabbed me by the hand and pulled me towards the coast, continuing to speak me in great anger as she did so.

I didn't understand a word, but atleast she didn't seem hostile. I kept listening, trying to find atleast one familiar word in all that she said. And as I tried, slowly some of her words started making sense.
