30 Battalion of Soldiers

I took a deep breath, ''I don't know,'' I said and I was not lying. ''I'm not a spy, I had no intention of being a spy, neither I was still human nor now.'' I took the leather bag to see if all the ingredients I need for the potion are available.

''Why I feel like there is a 'but'?'' The fox said.

I glared at the fox ''I wonder why, could it be because you're in my mind?'' The fox disappeared from my shoulder and appeared on the ground, near the wooden honey pot. It touched one of its paws with honey and started to lick it.

''Don't be touchy, I can only see your surface thoughts and lust, not everything goes through your mind'' It said.

I gave a sharp laugh, ''If you could, you would.'' The fox kept licking honey from its paw and didn't seem to give attention to what I said. ''I'm not a spy, but I need that reward. If I can't get it, the only option left is to give up the idea of living among humans.''

''I guess you are going to give it a try,'' The fox said. I put a spoonful of honey in a little glass bottle, then mixed it with some with semi-precious herbs. They are precious, but with money, you could buy them anywhere. They were among a few things I bought before lunatic cleric bust the guild.

''Giving it a try, yes, why not. If it turns out I'm not suitable for spying, I can always say 'Oh, sorry. I was just giving it a try,' right?'' I looked at the glass bottle, it had the consistency of honey and if someone wanted to drink like that, it would burn their throat. ''Maybe I should have diluted honey with water first,'' I said.

''So won't you give it a chance?'' The fox asked disappeared from the ground and appeared on my shoulder, again.

''I never said that. I haven't made up my mind yet,'' I took a water bottle from the bag and poured some water into the honey mixture. ''Do you think I can survive in demon society?''

''Well...'' The fox sighed as if making a statement was such a bother, ''If you ask what your status among the demons in Hell will be, you are nothing but a snack for them.''

I rolled my eyes, ''Who cares about status in Hell? I'm asking about the demon society on our plane.''

The fox shrugged, ''Well, since you're a member of one of the seven big demon clans, you have some sort of protection against other demons. But your status within the clan isn't that great.''

I raised my eyebrows with surprise, ''Seven big demon clans?''

''Yeah, you know. Lust, greed, envy, pride, gluttony, sloth, wrath. Of course, there are more comprehensive societies of demons like the ice demons. But the seven clans are unrivaled, or rather, they have no other rivals than each other,'' It said.

I took a deep breath to digest the information I just learned. ''I see. What exactly is my status in the clan?''

The fox disappeared from my sight and I heard its voice in my mind, ''Go, find out yourself if you want to learn. I'm not here to babysit.''

I stopped talking to the fox and focused on what I was doing. The mixture now looked drinkable, with only one thing left to do. I held the glass bottle with both of my hands, ''Light,'' I called and it came. The bottle in my hands started to shine. ''Thank you, light. You can go now.''

''It's weird that the light still hasn't left you. I've never seen a demon specializing in the light element before,'' The fox said.

''Is it such a rare thing?'' I asked.

''There is nothing about a case like yours in what I have from Malice's memoirs. She's older than 200 years old. So yes, it is rare,'' It said.

I took a sip of champagne colored liquid, it was a little too sweet but other than that, it was great. Without wasting time, I decided to go to the guild to take the sample to Hermes. ''But you don't have all of her memories, do you?'' The fox's image in my mind shook its head.

All the streets and alleys were full of soldiers in snowflake carved armors. I saw young girls giggling and flirting with the soldiers. Then an image popped up in my mind, but it didn't belong to me.

I saw two soldiers with helmets covered their faces covered, and I tasted lust. I didn't know the soldiers, but I knew lust. It was tasting like Miran, ''What's that image?''

''You see the fantasy that Miran is dreaming of, probably because your influence on her is getting stronger. Masturbating at this hour? Girl, you have a naughty pet.''

The scene was not like an illusion, I could leave if I wanted. But since it's not blocking my real life sight and I had nothing to think about as I walked, I kept watching. When armors vanished except for helmets, muscular soldier bodies came into sight. The two bodies were the same, probably because she wasn't bothered to imagine two different people. They looked alike enough to be brothers or twins in real life.

One of them went in front of Miran, who was stripped of her nun's dress, and the other behind her. Between the two built men, her lean body seemed so small to me. ''Because she wants that, she likes being the weakest,'' The fox said.

''I'll accept the spying quest,'' I said.

''Huh? What changed your mind so quickly?''

I looked at the tiny woman spreading her legs to invite men that she is too lazy to imagine their faces, ''I have an idea,'' I said.
