6 Scarlett starts to notice changes

"Well... I sort of didn't come through the front door..." He continued to rub the back of his head when he finally gave her eye contact. "I brought you through your balcony window."

Scarlett stared at Cameron, her eyes bugging out of of her head. "You... You brought me through my balcony window?" she replied back her voice filled with amazement and uncertainty. Her head swivelled towards her glass doors that opened up to her balcony from her room. She saw them wide open and her curtains dancing along with the slight breeze. Her head turned back to Cameron and she locked her gaze on him. He returned her gaze and gave a little chuckle at her expression.

"Yea... I didn't want to get you in trouble with your parents." he explained sheepishly and gave her a small grin.

"But how did you get me up here whilst I was unconscious!? This is the second level of the house!" she exclaimed in amazement. Cameron brows furrowed as he gave her a small frown.

"That's not what's important right now," the words rushed out of his mouth and Scarlett crossed her arms across her chest and she pouted at him, unsatisfied with his answer. "What is important is if you are okay."

"I'm fine," Scarlett huffed at him, still pouting. "But you have a lot of explaining to do." Cameron sighed at her response and averted his gaze from her's.

"What do you want to know?" his response sounded uncertain and wary. Scarlett cracked a small smile and dropped her arms from their crossed position. 'Finally!' her brain sang.

"What happened last night?" The words escaped her lips before she could stop them. 'You idiot, you don't even know for sure if that really happened.'

"What do you mean last night?" He sounded uncertain and upset. Cameron's eyes connected with her's and she facepalmed in her mind. Scarlett sighed and feeling her curiosity mount she plowed into her explanation of what she had experienced.

"...And then... You... Er... You bit me. But when I woke up this morning I had none of the injuries that I recieved and I'm not sure if it was a dream or if I'm going crazy!" she hurriedly finished off explaining what she had experienced and averted her eyes from his. 'He's definitely going to think I'm insane. Why did I tell him that?' her brain cried in anguish.

She heard Cameron shuffle around and lifted her eyes to him. Cameron was still sitting on the side of her bed but he looked highly uncomfortable and upset

"You're not crazy Scar... I definitely have a lot of explaining to do..." his eyes danced with a deep pain and he hesitated, not seeming to want to continue.

After a long pause Scarlett bit her lip and hesitantly tried to continue the conversation. "Well?" she asked trying to delicately pry more out of him. Suddenly her bedroom door swung open and Scarlett's eyes flung from Cameron's face to the doorway.

"I thought I heard your voice," her Mother said softly as she entered the room. Scarlett froze and waited for her Mum to notice Cameron in her room. "Why are you home so early? And I didn't hear you come home, are you alright?" her Mum asked delicately as she walked into Scarlett's room and sat on the side of her bed, opposite to where Cameron was. Scarlett's eyes flickered to where he was sitting and felt shock rise in her chest. 'He's not there? What the-'

"Scarlett?" her Mum's words interrupted her train of thought and Scarlett moved her eyes to give her Mum eye contact and gave her a small smile, the shock still dancing throughout her body.

"Sorry Mum," she said hastily. "I had a fever and came home. I didn't want to worry you so I came in really quietly" she explained lamely and her Mum's eyebrows furrowed in worry. She lifted her hand to Scarlett's forehead and assessed her temperature.

"You do feel fairly warm. You get some rest and I'll come and check on you in a little while. Just call out to me if you need anything, okay honey?" her Mum replied as she removed her hand from Scarlett's face. Scarlett gave her a small nod and smiled.

"Thanks Mum, I will. Your not mad at me for leaving school are you?" she asked timidly and fidgeted with her hands, feeling her anxiety replace her shock. Her Mum gave her a small smile as she lifted herself from her sitting position on Scarlett's bed.

"No honey, if you are genuinely sick I don't want you to push yourself and make yourself worse," she said in a hushed and calm tone as she made Scarlett lay back down from her sitting position on her bed and tucked her under the blankets. Scarlett gave her a small smile.

"Thanks Mum, I'm sure I'll feel better by tomorrow" she explained her anxiety rushing out of her at her Mother's words.

"That's okay honey, I'll be back up to check on you in an hour or so. Get some rest and feel better," her Mum said as she started to walk to the door. " And remember, call out to me if you need anything." she said before she lightly closed the door. Scarlett lay in her bed and listened carefully to her Mother's footsteps retreating down the hallway and then down the stairs. Scarlett gave a sigh of relief and then felt the shock come across her again. How had Cameron vanished like that?

"Cameron?" she whispered into the room and heard a chuckle in response. Her eyes darted to her glass doors that led to her balcony and saw Cameron leaning against one of the doors, facing her and smirking. He walked back to her bed and sat back down, careful to not make any noise. Scarlett looked at him and could feel all the shock painted across her face. Suddenly she felt very hot and her vision spun.

"Scarlett, are you alright?" Cameron whispered as he grabbed her by the shoulders and held her steady.

"Yea... I think so... I just had another head spin." she explained as she connected her gaze with his and she could see the worry dance through his eyes. Suddenly she heard a lot of strange noises. She could hear her Mother moving around downstairs and a strange thumping noise. Everything suddenly seemed brighter and everything seemed to give off more intense smells. "What's happening?" her voice cracked with the panic.

Cameron suddenly pulled her into a rough hug and shifted his body closer to her's on the bed. Scarlett could smell the dirt and lavender on his skin as her face was pressed into his chest.

"I'm so sorry Scar," she could smell his tears before they pattered lightly on the crown of her head. Scarlett frowned and looked up into his eyes. She gave a gasp as his eyes were no longer their normal black but scorching yellow like she remembered from last night. She felt the fear dance across her face before she could stop it and lightly pushed Cameron away from her. At least she thought it had been lightly.

Cameron flew off the bed and landed with a grunt a few feet away from the bed, clutching his chest where she had pushed him. Scarlett lept from the bed and rushed to his side.

"Cameron?! I'm so sorry!" she said quietly as she held out a hand to help him up. She looked at her other hand, the one she had used to push Cameron off the bed, in shock and amazement. Cameron grabbed the hand she was offering and she helped him to his feet.

"It's okay... it's my fault," his glowing yellow eyes locking with her's. "I never should have bit you in the first place." he whispered, pain and anguish burning deep within his eyes. Scarlett gave a shocked gasp and let go of his hand.

So it was true! Everything she had experienced had happened! She wasn't crazy! She kept looking into his deep, glowing eyes and felt fear clutch her entire body. Every fibre of her being told her she was in danger right now, not from Cameron, but from changing into what Cameron was.
