5 Scarlett and Cameron

"I don't know," Abby said sounding defeated. "Maybe you should ask him?"

Scarlett scowled at Abby in response. "Are you serious? I don't want to talk to him." she responded flatly.

"Look I know you don't want to but... That's the only way you are going to find any answers to your questions." Abby sighed as she rubbed Scarlett's arm. "Hey are you okay? You feel really hot!" Abby exclaimed as she moved her hand from Scarlett's shoulder to her forehead.

"I'm fine, I'm just angry." Scarlett huffed and Abby's hand dropped from her forehead.

"If you're sure," Abby shrugged. "Anyway,as I was saying, if you don't talk to Cam then you won't get any answers."

"I hate it when you're right," Scarlett relented and gave her friend a small smile. "I'll talk to him later." Suddenly the door behind them burst open and Scarlett and Abby whirled towards the sound. Cameron stood in the doorway, looking anxiously between Scarlett and Abby. 'Or right now I suppose' her brain chastised her. Scarlett sighed and looked at Abby.

"Can you please go to next class and explain to Mr. Waltz while I'll be late to gym class?" she asked Abby. Abby gave a small smile in response and nodded.

"I'll tell him you went to sick bay. Take your time." Abby called over her shoulder as she started to head off to their next class. Scarlett turned to Cameron after giving Abby a small wave and sighed.

"I'm really-" she started out before Cameron cut her off.

"No need to explain. I'm sorry Scar. I never should have just disappeared on you." He gave her a small smile as he waved off her attempt at apology. Suddenly the bell rang to signify the end of lunch and the rest of the students began to pour through the door that Cameron had left open behind him. Scarlett could feel everyone's eyes on them and could hear the quiet whispers some of them were sharing about the act of violence Scarlett had inflicted on Cameron. She shuffled her feet nervously and looked up into Cameron's eyes. He did not give her eye contact as he was glaring down all the students that were passing them like a rushing river moved around boulders. Suddenly his eyes snapped to hers and he gave her a nervous smile.

"Let's go somewhere private to talk about this," he said to her in an undertone while grabbing her wrist lightly and pulling her into the nearest empty classroom. "We need to talk about a lot." He said as he closed the door behind them. Scarlett started to burn with questions and before he could continue talking her mouth flew open.

"Did last night happen?" she suddenly blurted out and Cameron raised an eyebrow at her in response.

"What do you mean last night?" he enquired while giving her a strange look. To Scarlett it seemed like she saw pain and worry dance across his eyes but once she blinked it was gone.

"You know..." she said nervously, rubbing the back of her head. She didn't want to voice outloud what she thought had happened to Cameron. If it hadn't happened then he would think she was crazy and after just getting her best friend back she couldn't bear losing him again. When he raised his eyebrow again she sighed and shrugged. "Forget it... What did you want to talk about?"

"I wanted to apologise for leaving you behind. I never wanted to but..." he hesitated, looking like he was contemplating something. "I just couldn't bear to come back here."

"You could have at least called me and told me you were alright," she huffed as she crossed her arms across her chest and glared at him. "I seriously thought you had died! And what's with criticizing my Dad by the way?"

"I am so sorry Scar, I really am. I know there is no good excuse for me not calling you so I won't give you one. But could you please forgive me Scar? I have missed you so damn much and I can't bear the thought of not being friends with you. We have been friends since we were practically babies!" he whispered the words and the pain was evident in his voice. He reached out to her as if to touch her and then seemed to second guess himself and dropped his hand to his side. "Also I wasn't criticizing your Dad, I was merely making an observation." Scarlett let her arms drop to her side and sighed, dropping her angry and frosty exterior. She could never stay mad at Cameron for long.

"I don't say that I can forget about the heartache you caused me," she whispered back. "I was sick to death with worry and when the police found your blood in the forest and declared you dead I fell into a really heavy depression Cam..." Cameron winced at her words and the pain and anguish on his face pulled at her heart. "But I am willing to forgive it. I am always going to be your friend Cam, through thick and thin, remember?" At her words Cameron suddenly pulled her into a rough hug. She wrapped her arms around him back and smiled.

"Thank you Scar," he whispered onto the crown of her head. "I'll never leave your side again. I promise." His words caused the smile on her face to widen and she pulled her face away from his chest and craned her head to lock eyes with Cameron. All of a sudden she felt super dizzy and her vision started to fade. She faintly heard Cameron call her name and suddenly she became a dead weight in his arms.

"Scar? Scarlett? Can you hear me?" The words seemed to swim in Scarlett's head and she started to rouse. Why was someone calling her name. 'I'm trying to sleep dammit' her head yelled back at the offending voice. 'Leave me to sleep!' She rolled on her side and attempted to get comfortable again.

"Scar?" the offending voice called again.

"What?" She mumbled, still half asleep. She heard the person calling to her sigh in relief. She suddenly felt someone poke her in the side and she opened her eyes. She glared up at the offending person as they swam into view, her vision blurred from sleep.

"Cameron? What's going on?" she mumbled as she rubbed her eyes tiredly. Suddenly her brain kicked in and remembered that she had passed out in Cameron's arms at school. She sat up suddenly and looked around her. They were in her room? 'How did we get here?' her brain questioned as she looked back at Cameron who was sitting on the side of her bed.

"You passed out and you had a high fever so I brought you home." He explained as he tucked a loose hair behind her ear.

"Great," she mumbled as she rubbed the rest of the sleep out of her eyes. "My Mum is going to kill me for leaving school early."

"Oh... Um... You don't have to really worry about that." He said sheepishly as he rubbed the back of his head. Scarlett raised an eyebrow at him.

"What do you mean?" She enquired as Cameron averted her gaze.

"Well... I sort of didn't come through the front door..." He continued to rub the back of his head when he finally gave her eye contact. "I brought you through your balcony window."
