2 How could this happen?

"Cameron?" her voice rushed out in a whisper "What has happened to you?"

She reached out her hand, her mind questioning if he was real of if she had gone insane after the horrible murders she had witnessed in the forest. Her question was quickly answered when Cameron's arm shot out and grabbed her wrist, stopping her from touching him, but confirming that he was indeed real. She looked up into his glowing eyes and saw that the smirk that was there just a second ago had completely vanished and was replaced by a cold and hard stare. His grip bit into her wrist and she whimpered in response.

"Ow you're hurting me! Let go!" She hissed at him, trying to keep her voice low.

"Don't come near me," he sighed as he dropped her arm and stepped back a few steps "it's not safe" he hastily explained as he saw the hurt dance across her face. She stepped towards him again and fixed him with a glare, stubbon. He took another step back reflexively and she followed.

"I'm serious Scarlett don't come near me!" he hissed again, stinging her feelings. She had just found him after a year and a half of him missing and he didn't want her near him. What had happened to her best friend? He took another step away from her, backing down the dirt path, his face hard and uncaring as she felt her feelings sting again. She looked into his glowing yellow eyes and couldn't believe it was the same guy she had missed all this time.

His eyes were no longer the pitch black she remembered but an ominous glowing yellow. The Cameron she had known had no muscle and was a gangly tall guy. Now he had muscle covering every part of his body making him look strong and menacing and not adorable and approachable. She looked into he eyes and took another step forward.

"Cam, seriously what is going on?" the pain was evident in her voice but she didn't care. "Where have you been all this time?" she whispered and then fliched as she heard another howl of agony pierce through the forest again.

"Scar I don't-"

"Don't call me that!" She screamed as she suddenly lauched herself at him. "You have no right to call me that!" She screamed as she punched at his chest. Her hand cried out in agony as she felt it brake against his body and she hunched over holding her hand. "FUCK!" she screamed as the pain eminated from her hand and through her whole body.

A sudden eerie howl, not of pain but of thrill and excitement, pierced through the forest and Scarlett snapped back to reality. Shit their gonna find you, you idiot her brain screamed at her as she realised her screaming alerted the horrors in the forest to where she was.

"You fucking idiot!" Cameron raged at her as he grabbed her arm and dragged her behind him as he took off back into the underbrush. Scarlett could barely keep up with him and several times she swore she was going to trip and he was just going to drag her but by some miracle she managed to keep her feet on the ground as Cameron dragged her through the underbrush. Suddenly he pulled her around a tree and lent his back against it, pulling her in front of him and pulling her back into his chest and clamped a hand over her mouth. She struggled against him to no avail.

"Stop moving or they will hear you" he whispered into her ear. Scarlett suddenly stood stock still and lent her back further into his chest, trying to be as quiet as she possibly could. Suddenly she heard several footfalls near them and she felt her body break out into a cold sweat and her fear reared it's ugly head again. She put both of her hands on Cameron's that was clamped tightly over her mouth, feeling her palms and her broken hand sing with agony in protest, and shut her eyes praying that the people wouldn't find them.

"She has to be hear somewhere," a horrid and hissy voice broke the silence. "I can smell her."

Scarlett's eyes opened in shock. Did he just say he can smell me? Her brain screamed in horror. Cameron's body stiffened behind her and she heard him hold his breath.

"Your smell is never reliable Magguth, let's just keep looking before she gets away from us." A high pitched feminine voice responded. The footsteps fastened again and suddenly dissipated into the distance. A few minutes after they were gone Cameron's body unstiffend but still didn't release her. A few minutes more passed by and he suddenly released her and shoved her a few feet away from him. Scarlett stumbled over her feet but found her footing, whirling around to face Cameron with an icy glare.

Cameron smirked back at her and shrugged. She couldn't believe this was her best friend. Why did he look and act so different? What had happened to him in the year and a half that he had been missing? Just as she opened her mouth to interrogate him he pressed a finger to his lips, signaling for her to be silent. She raised an eye brow at him and crossed her arms over her chest.

"If you think that I am going to be quiet right now, you are sorely mistaken," Scarlett hissed at him. "What the fuck is going on right now Cam?"

"Oh so you can call me Cam but I can't call you Scar?" he whispered back mockingly. "What's up with that?"

"You disappear for a year and a half under suspious circumstances and when I find you you don't want to be near me!" She whispered angrily back. "Also you look nothing like you... And... And I thought you were dead all this time!"

Cameron suddenly stood stock still as tears rushed down Scarlett's face silently. Her shoulders shook silently with the might of her silent sobs and Cameron suddenly pulled her into a hug, her face tucked into his chest with one of his arms around her waist and his other hand resting on the back of her head. Her sobs continued on silently and Cameron sighed.

"I never wanted to do that to you, I promise. I know you have missed me and that you have thought I was dead but I just couldn't drag you into all this mess. I didn't want you to get hurt." He whispered urgently and Scarlett knew he meant it but she gave out a derisive snort in between her sobs.

"Great job at making sure I didn't get hurt," she said between sobs as she shoved her broken hand to his face showing him her bloodied palm. "I'm bleeding."

Suddenly she was out of Cameron's arms and he was a few feet away from her.

"I- I told you not to do that Scar!" he growled under his breath sounding out of breath and in pain.

"Why?" she questioned pleadingly. Why was he being so distant and cold? Her breath suddenly caught in her throat as she looked up into his face. His yellow eyes seemed to darken to a golden colour and his face became paler. He suddenly flashed his teeth at her and she saw that his canines were frightenly sharp. She took a cautious step towards him, reaching out with her unbroken hand, worried and wanting to help her friend. He growled at her and suddenly lept forward. He grabbed a hold of her hand and pulled her roughly toward him. He pulled her into the positon they were in earlier, her back pressed tightly into his chest and his hand clamped tight over her mouth. He tilted her head roughly to the side and she felt his hot breath on her shoulder. Fear spiked her heart again and she lifted her unbroken hand, aiming to push his face away and tossed her body around, trying to squirm out of his tight and unbreaking grip. She screamed and yelled at him to stop but it came out as muffled cries.

Cameron lifted his arm that was around her waist and swatted her hand away easily, breaking two fingers in the process. She screamed again and tried to wiggle away but his arm locked around her waist again tightly and pulled her feet off the ground, stopping her from making noise in the under brush with her feet. Suddenly his teeth wrapped around her shoulder and bit down, breaking the skin like a knife cutting through butter and Scarlett screamed again, her cries and screams still muffled by his hand.

Suddenly she felt drowsy and light headed. Her body movements slowed down until suddenly they stopped as she fell unconscious in Cameron's tight embrace.
