7 Explainations

Cameron's glowing eyes danced with a deep pain and anguish as Scarlett removed her hand from his.

"I'm so sorry Scar," his voice brimming with his pain. "I never should have gotten you invovled in this." he reached out and ran a finger delicately down Scarlett's cheek and she shivered in response.

"What's happening to me Cam?" she asked, her voice quivering in fear. He sighed deeply and let his hand fall to his side. His eyebrows furrowed above his shimmering eyes and lead her to the bed, both of them sitting on the edge.

"I lied to you Scar," he said looking down at his hands resting in his lap, his brow still furrowed. "I didn't run off to my Aunt and Uncle's. I was in town the whole time I was missing. I just couldn't risk anyone seeing me cause the whole I was dead narrative was better... I-" he hesitated, his eyes lifting briefly to take in her reaction so far and then he shut his eyes. Cameron only ever did this when he had something hard to say because it made it easier for him to continue his story. Seeing this familiar quirk suddenly made Scarlett feel comfortable, even though she knew that what she was going to hear would be difficult.

"I was attacked in the forest the day I disappeared," Cameron rushed on, his eyes still shut beneath his furrowed brow. "Something jumped out of the underbrush and bit me. I don't know who or what it was, I never saw them and I haven't been able to find them in the year and a half I have been missing. After I was attacked I pulled myself into some thick underbrush and passed out. I remember waking up occasionally and noticing weird differences about myself and then I would pass out again. I'm pretty sure that I was under that brush for four days. I remember waking up to voices near me and an intoxicating smell. When I peered through the brush I saw your Dad and his deputy looking around my bike and discussing something but all I could concentrate on was the smell. It smelled like the best thing in the world and it overpowered all of my senses. Suddenly your Dad looked around and I recognised him and I realised the smell was coming from him. I could hear his heart beat and smell his blood," Cameron winced as if trying to reject the memory. Scarlett reached out and rubbed his arm in comfort, nudging him to continue his story. "I got out of there, fast. I wanted to get away from the smell before I did something really stupid that I would regret my whole life. Ever since then I have been living in the forest and trying to find what has changed me. To answer your question Scar, I'm pretty sure I'm a lycan." he sighed and opened his eyes, carefully taking in her face for her reaction. Scarlett released a breath that she didn't know she had been holding.

"A lycan? What's that?" she asked tentatively, scared for the answer. Cameron sighed and rubbed the back of his head sheepishly.

"Sorry that's the more recent term but it's a werewolf. I have changed only when the moon is full and even when I am in my human form I am still able to hear and smell things that I shouldn't and I can move at incredible speeds." Scarlett's hand dropped from his arm and she could feel her mouth hanging open. Cameron raised his eyes slowly and took in her expression, the pain and discomfort painted deep within his glowing eyes.

"So... So I'm turning into a werewolf?" Scarlett whispered in disbelief. Cameron pulled her into a hug and she could hear his heart beat thumping rapidly.

"I'm so sorry Scar... I never wanted to hurt you. That's why I never left the forest after I changed. I never wanted to kill or harm anyone in this town and now..." his voice cracked and died off as she felt his tears falling onto the crown of her head again. Scarlett's arms raised and wrapped around his body before she even realised she was doing it. It's like her body was programmed to comfort him in that moment. She pulled her head away from his chest and looked deep into his molten glowing eyes.

"It's okay Cam. I don't blame you. Like you said, you could smell my Dad's blood even when it was still in his body. I can't believe you maintained your sanity for so long when I was bleeding everywhere. I'm so sorry." she whispered, trying to stop the tears from falling from Cameron's eyes. Cameron shook his head as he closed his eyes, a distinct shiver running through his body.

"It's my fault, I should have stayed away from you. But when I saw you run past me in that forest I couldn't help but follow you. I hadn't seen you in so long and I just couldn't help myself," his eyes flung open at the end of his sentence. His eyes widened and he was suddenly unnaturally still.

"What? What's wrong?" Scarlett asked in an undertone, afraid of what he was reacting to.

"Scarlett... Your eyes... They're changing," Cameron whispered back. Scarlett sprung from her bed and out of Cameron's arms and stepped quickly to her full length mirror. Her reflection was horribly pale and she could see that her hair was slightly longer but the thing that made Scarlett's heart skip a few beats was her eyes. She stared at her reflection, wide eyed, as she watched her green eyes slowly changing to a glowing yellow. They didn't fully change but she could notice the slight change in colour and a strange ominous glow to her eyes. She saw Cameron stand from his seat and walk behind her in the mirror. He grabbed her shoulder and turned her away from the mirror to face him. His face was hard and unreadable.

"We have to leave Scar. You can't be around people. You're too dangerous. When you have fully changed you will be a danger to anyone and everyone," he said quietly and quickly, his tone of voice soft and caring.

"But... You were at school today?" she asked, the question behind it hanging in the air for a few moments. Cameron nodded.

"Yes I was," he agreed. "And it took everything in me not to rip the throats of all those people whispering obscenities about you today."

Scarlett flinched at the harshness of his reponse. She nodded her head after a few minutes and looked down at her feet.

"I'll go with you," as soon as the words were out of her mouth Cameron swept her into his arms, cradling her close to his chest in one arm, and sprang out of her glass doors and landed quietly into her back garden. Once his feet landed he sped away from her house and into the little wood that surrounded her back yard with ridiculous speed.
