10 Cameron's POV Chapter 1

Cameron was walking through the forest outside of what used to be his small town, picking through the underbrush and collecting what he could find for resources. Food, water, wood to continue building his small cabin and anything that could help him survive.

Suddenly a terrified scream cut through the forest, ringing through his ears and brain like it was trying to sear itself there.

He felt his heart rate spike in response and all of his instincts told him to stay far away from that part of the forest. Ever since he had been attacked he had lived in this forest and lived by his new instincts, and they were all screaming at him to stay away. He was unsure of what was happening but he felt that he really didn't want to know. He tried to block out the noise and continue what he was doing but his new sensitive ears couldn't help but hear every noise in excruciating detail, making him wince and shiver as images danced through his brain, trying to match images to the sounds.

Cries and screams tore through his brain and kept pulling his thoughts away from what he was doing. He felt he should investigate but everytime he attempted to move toward the sound, his instincts would pull him back. He would get closer and closer but very slowly. Suddenly he heard movement very close to him. This made him freeze in the underbrush and conceal himself. He knew he was closer to the mayhem but not so close that he would hear the movement of other individuals. From his estimation he should have only been close enough to still hear the screams and cries of agony, but nothing else. He could hear whoever or whatever it was getting closer and closer to him and fast. 'Not superhuman fast,' his brain registered 'but they seem to be moving as fast as they possibly can'.

Suddenly he saw movement in the underbrush a little to his right. Where he was hiding was a mass of underbrush but there was a small gap between some of it just in front of his hiding place. The underbrush to his right kept moving and suddenly someone came bursting forth from it and kept running through the little gap in front of him and then lept into the underbrush to his left.

Cameron's heart stopped for a moment as soon as he saw the figure burst out of the underbrush and he felt his feet involuntary move as he saw Scarlett run by him, causing him to step on a stick just in front of him, making it snap in half and causing a resounding snapping noise to send Scarlett into the underbrush to his left.

He couldn't believe his eyes. He sat for a moment in the underbrush, wondering if he imagined it, when suddenly his feet grew a mind of their own and Cameron suddenly found himself chasing after Scarlett, still unsure if she was a spectre his mind had created.

Suddenly he saw more movement ahead of him and he pushed his body forward, not feeling any resistance in his body and feeling his it fill with the familar feeling like he was full to the brim with endless stamina.

He could suddenly see her again and even though he knew it was so dark that his old eyes would never have been able to make her out in this darkness he could see her in perfect detail, as if he was seeing her in the light of day. Her long, black hair pulled up into it's familar pony tail and her body pushing her forward as fast as she could. Suddenly her head swiveled around towards him as she continued to move forward and locked eyes with him. He could see the familar green hue to her eyes and he felt his heart skip a few beats and a wide smile crack across his face. 'It's her!' his brain cried out with so much joy 'she's really here!' Suddenly the fear in her eyes registered to his brain and he felt his brow furrow. 'Why isn't she happy to see me?' his brain cried in anguish as her head turned away from him and she push her body to go faster. Suddenly she dashed to the right, as if trying to shake him off, but he continued to follow her. Suddenly it registered to him why she was scared of him. 'She can't see you in the dark you fucking idiot!' his brain chastised him. 'And even if she could she would probably still be scared you absolute moron! She thinks you are fucking dead and you look nothing like you did a year and a half ago!'

Even though his brain recognized this he still followed her, his heart racing in elation at seeing his beat friend again. He couldn't help but follow her, she was one of the most important person to him in his whole life.

Abruptly Scarlett broke free of the underbrush and onto and dirt path that Cameron recognized as the path out of the forest that led back to town. He almost followed her out to the path but suddenly second guessed himself, running along side the path, still concealed by the underbrush. 'I don't want her to see me and freak out. Just stay with her and make sure she gets out safe and away from the forest' his brain told him as he kept his pace with her's. Scarlett's face swivelled towards Cameron again and he made sure to keep himself concealed in the underbrush but to still keep pace with her. He saw her eyes widen in horror as she hooked her foot on a tree root and he saw her fall and skid across the dirt path, hearing her hiss in response as the gravel bit into her skin. Suddenly an overwhelmingly beautiful smell cut into Cameron's nose and he suddenly held his breath, not wanting to let his instincts take over and respond to the smell. He watched Scarlett from the underbrush as she lay there and before he realized what he was actually doing, he stepped out of the underbrush and stood in front of her. All of his body was screaming at him to help her up and hug her and just as he was about to reach down to her and do just that he saw her eyes travel from his feet up his legs. He suddenly second guessed himself and stood stock still in sudden fear. 'What is her reaction going to be?' his brain abruptly asked him and he felt anxiety and fear raise in him as he watched Scarlett's eyes travel up his torso slowly. His heart felt like it actually stopped as her eyes connected with his. He kept himself from breathing and felt a tiny smile dance across his lips as he saw the realization in Scarlett's eyes as she recognized him. It was suddenly eclipsed by fear as her mouth and eyes grew wide.

Cameron stood stock still in fear but felt that his mouth still held his small smile, still not believing that Scarlett was there. Her eyes and mouth abruptly closed and he saw her give her head a little shake, as if she was trying to shake a fake image from her mind. She opened her eyes again slowly and her eyes connect with his again. Suddenly she was on her feet again and was reaching out toward him. He could see the blood collecting underneath the new scratches and cuts on her skin and suddenly seep forth from them. He felt his body recoil as he felt saliva build up in his mouth, even though he couldn't smell it.

"Cameron?" she asked cautiously in a whisper. "What has happened to you?"

He felt his heart beat get quicker with fear and he felt his mind go blank for a response. 'Great, you fucking idiot,' his brain tortured and tormented him. 'What are you going to tell her now? And how are you going to get out of this situation without hurting her?! She is bleeding for fuck's sake!"

There was a moment of silence as Cameron suddenly realized that he had fucked up. Badly.
