1 (ch.1)

In a small neighborhood, silence is prevalent in the morning other than the crickets' music and the birds' incessant chirps, but the usual tranquility was broken as the sound of a engine hummed abruptly. Out of the doorway of a stocky house, a girl walked out carrying a large, cardboard box in her arms. In the middle of going towards the car sitting in the driveway, she got distracted by the reddish glow reflecting off of the sky.

"Such a beautiful summer day," the girl muttered to herself as she gazed at the puffy clouds that dotted the auburn horizon.

"Wan Yu, stop standing there; we don't have all day," her mom said, brushing past her as she hurried to the car with another box.

"Yes, Mom!" Wan Yu hurried over and deposited her burden into the trunk. When she rushed back into the doorway, a boy suddenly collided into her.

"Oof!" they both said. The box threatened to spill its contents, but thankfully Wan Yu was able to prevent it from tipping. "Sorry, I wasn't looking..." she uttered softly as she slipped past her brother back into the house before he could chastise her.

Once the packing was finished, the family hopped into their car, but before they drove off, Wan Yu looked back to see the familiar house just one more time.

'I wish we didn't need to move because of dad's job,' Wa Yu mused despondently as she recalled her close friends, her house, and the school she knew so well.

'But cheer up Wan Yu! It will be exciting to meet new people.' She tried to comfort herself with these thoughts, but the feeling of butterflies in her stomach wouldn't leave her alone.

Well, it did after three days of continuous driving. When they reached their new home, the hubbub of the moving took the family another three weeks to settle down.

In the now furnished living room, Wan Yu and her brother both slouched on the grey couch with exhaustion.

"It's the last day of summer," Wan Yu mumbled. "Yeah, and the start of a new school and friends!" her brother exclaimed happily. Wan Yu rolled her eyes.

As Wan Yu and her brother walked up the steps of the red-bricked school, she felt nervous and later on- annoyed. The school as she perceived it was full of weirdos, and she couldn't seem to fit in. However, her brother was an complete extrovert unlike her, which resulted in him being quite popular among the girls. When she first heard whispers of how handsome he was, she couldn't help but make a weird face.

One uneventful day in school as Wan Yu walked down the bustling hallway after break, she suddenly bumped harshly into someone.

"Sorry!" Both of them hastily said at the same time.

"Are you hurt?" They both said it with exactly the same tone and timing. Wan Yu and the girl gazed at each other before giggling aloud.

Since Wan Yu was able to stop laughing first, she introduced herself to this adorable girl.

"I'm Wan Yu; nice to meet you!" Wan Yu grinned widely.

"You can call me Wen Ming," the girl finally mentioned in between her giggles.

And that was the start of my friendship...

…Three years later, Wan Yu, a ninth grader, and her brother, now a tenth grader, were in high school. A school full of weirdos, nerds, rude girls like the cheerleaders, and last of all...f-boys. Wan Yu especially detested the last two.
