Beware

A slow morning rolled over as the very first streaks of light pierced through a window, exactly at the point where the curtains failed to converge, illuminating the eyes of a young woman and forcing her awake.

She shielded her eyes as she groggily took in her surroundings, a owl was hooting with a stop outside of her window, seemingly having a heated discussion with another bird she couldn't recognise by its vocals.

She looked over at her bedside table to look at her alarm clock, of course, the rays of sunlight got perfectly in the way of her vision, forcing to get closer to see that it was just about six in the morning.

She yawned as she realised she had only slept for three hours at maximum, it wasn't much at all but once awake, she knew that she wouldn't be able to go back to sleep no matter what.

She raised her arms and stretched, as she moved some more in her bed, she realised that, for some reason, she was drenched in sweat despite the weather not being so warm at all, neither last night or now.

Not having a clue, she just got off her bed and headed to her door, ever so gently hitting the foot of her bed with her small toe, now she was completely awake for certain.

She held in her scream, knowing that her parents were most likely still asleep, she hopped on one foot to her door as she got used to the sudden stinging pain.

She stepped on the wooden floor of the hallway and made her way toward the bathroom, before she got there however, something got her attention, her parents must have had left the tv on as she could hear some sort of news jingle or, whatever it was called, playing.

Her hand was on the doorknob to the bathroom but since she was in no hurry, she headed toward the living room to see what was going on with the tv.

"Hello residents of Oliver, today will be marked by yet another victim of the brutal fiend" spoke the news presenter with a certain grim tone.

This so-called 'brutal fiend' was the reason Marina wasn't in a hurry, last time, he had struck right inside of her highschool, leading to it being closed for a while.

"This morning, police has been called on yet another crime scene, while details are still kept a secret by the authorities, the few details we are aware of match with the killer's modus operandi, the victim was a woman and she had been viciously assaulted before her death" Marina was about to turn the tv on as it was now the tenth time the news said basically the same thing but suddenly, without any build up, they revealed something fresh.

Despite the fact that the police was keeping some details hidden, so as to avoid a copycat Marina thought, the press didn't care much about their investigation and really only wanted to report whatever they found out, even if it benefitted the killer.

"We managed to get a hold of the man that discovered the body, what he has to say, is chilling-" Marine raised an eyebrow as the image shifted to a shaken and frail-looking old man.

His wrinkles were deep and seemed completely solid and immovable, his eyes were still wide and wet.

He had trouble starting his sentence, stuttering a lot but once he started, he didn't stop speaking.

A job title card appeared, showing the name of the old man and specifying his old occupation, 'former soldier'.

"I have seen lots of things, I have seen my friends be torn apart by shrapnels, disgusting and horrifying injuries that oozed black blood and pus for weeks but what I saw, it wasn't caused by a weapon, no"

"Her body was completely broken, her limbs weren't bending in the right positions! She was so pale and I could still see hand prints on her body, he did this with his hands! Nothing but his hands! No man can do this, only a monster could have!" feeling freaked out, she turned off the tv.

"No way that's true..." she unconsciously muttered to herself, she quickly made her way to the bathroom, a warm shower would only do good.

Her quick movement brought her away from the living room window, from which she could have witnessed one of her neighbors, a girl the same age as her running in the middle of the road still dressed in her pyjamas, seemingly, she was running for no apparent reason.

Another of her neighbors, a man in his forties saw it as well and at first, he thought he would see something or someone running after her but there was absolutely nothing.

He was perplexed but it was still quite the bizarre event to witness, so he reached for his landline phone, since it was anchored to the wall were it was, he could no longer see what was going on outside of his home as he called the police.

After a few minutes, when he got back, the girl wasn't visible anymore, he stepped out of his house just in case but she still was nowhere to be seen, he looked around and realised that the girl had been running from her own home.

The man in his forties walked toward her house, her father's car wasn't in the driveway, of course, he worked very early in the morning, her mother's however, was still there so he walked up to the front door, seeing it fit to inform her of what her daughter was doing.

The door was wide open, he could that some lights were on deeper inside, he called out for her and knocked on the open door but no answer came.

He felt unnerved but feeling like something was wrong, he stepped inside and quickly, he found the girl's mother and he screamed the moment he did.
