Prologue: The Days After the Cataclysm

Horizon was a world that was originally peaceful and pristine, named after its picturesque skylines where resplendent colours dance around in the pastel skies from dawn to dusk. However, this time of peace did not last long.

Horizon was shaken by a great mage known by its inhabitants as the Shadow, who unleashed his wrath which caused extensive loss and tragedy, scarring the world with his arcane magic. Instead of his intended eventuality to annihilate the planet along with its inhabitants, the Horizians, the world was riven into floating remnants in its wake, held up by a mysterious force that surrounds and flows through the new world. This event was known as the Cataclysm.

Some survivors of the Cataclysm gained power from this mysterious force, allowing them to adapt to the drastic changes that have been wrought on their lives. They were called Psions, beings infused with psionic abilities from the mysterious forces. With their newfound power to change the world, they ushered in a new era of the future - the Post-Cataclysmic Horizon.

A few years after the Cataclysm, an outsider from a neighbouring dimension, Oswell, came to their aid, bringing forth the marvels and revolutionary technology to Horizon along with his two other associates. As he did so, he brought the world from its primitive age to the technological era. He was to be their saviour, with plans for advancements in the future further than the eye could see, offering multifarious technological comfort to improve the lives of all in the world.

From his world, he created and brought over a colossal airship, one that would roam around Horizon, the Overseer. Built with a massive onboard hangar, it could hold hundreds of small flat and grey triangular-shaped mobile ships called Observers. With these ships, he could send them out to cover more area while Oswell flew around. Whenever the Overseer passed through a place, anyone in the area could feel the trembles emanating from the massive ship cutting through the air.

He gave Horizian survivors some of his ships by programming them to automatically fly to families in need so that they could travel around the floating continents with ease amongst the clouds to reduce the risks of disappearing into the void. Additionally, in each ship, there was a crate of allotted sustenance supplies to ensure the survivors of the Cataclysm had enough to survive on as compliments of his arrival.

However, these ships had cameras secretly installed so that Oswell could have eyes everywhere to monitor the world and progress in the development of his aid. With the built-in system, he could help people whenever he saw a problem while hiding the fact he was watching them, dispatching ships whenever necessary. Being gracious with his aid, he was enamoured as a saviour and many who liked him stood by him and some even assisted him to help others in need.

He created a name for himself, and a name for his global-aid cooperation, Tetra, with the motto - "Striving to Unite the Four Corners of the World". With Tetra, he and his associates aimed to find a way to put the world of Horizon back together again, even if it took him a lifetime.

Soon, civilisation began to burgeon through the years as Tetra built four major technological cities and a central hub all around the world. Eventually, Oswell was elected to become the one who led the world, ruler of decisions over the peoples' needs and choices, as the sovereign of Horizon. He stationed himself in New Horizon City, the headquarters of Tetra and melting pot for the Horizians in need of anything that he could provide.

However, once he discovered the existence of the psionic force and its gifts of powers to Psions, he began rounding them up to assist him in his rule, using them to repress the other powerless Horizians. Through science and self-experimentations, he gave himself psionic abilities and began to sink into depravity as he grew power-hungry. While he captured more and more Psions, he taught them the principles of Tetra and the rigidity of all its rules and customs, forcing more Psions to join him through brainwashing.

At first, Oswell hid the truth and announced that he just wanted to make the world adhere to the simple principles of order using Psionic soldiers, justice and equality so that he could bring the world together. However, his original goal to unite the world suddenly seemed more of a threat than aid, stealing Psions and breaking family bonds. Furthermore, as he turned greedy and oppressive, he set up taxes for his sustenance supplies, which had been previously free to help everyone. This required the Horizians to pay every now and then to fund the creation of monstrous machines for Oswell to have a stronger grasp of control over the world.

Many cower in fear under Oswell's tyrannical rule and some grew constant hate for him, turning resistant and rebelled against his rule. Most of them who opposed him were Psions, challenging his power as they fought a losing battle to such an all-powerful adversary. While they were swiftly defeated, they were given two choices - to oppress the Horizians alongside his rule on Horizon using their powers or to be thrown into cells and experimented on, which eventually led to their bitter demise in most cases.

Soon, the number of free Psions dwindled over the years as Tetra grew stronger, leaving Horizians with widespread anxiety on what he was going to do next. While there were some Psions still eluding his sights, he established another law that all Psions must come under his registration and work with him. Additionally, anyone else harbouring or living alongside Psions were forced to snitch on them for a bounty and Tetra would deal with each case swiftly. Security further tightened as he sent special sentries, ones capable of seeking Psions and capturing them, in ships all over the world to ensure there were no more loose Psions so that he could continue the next phase of his plans. He was like darkness that threatens to consume the freedom of Horizon, his lust for total dominance growing.

Being one of the survivors of the initial destruction of Horizon and a refugee who escaped the grasps of Tetra, Faye, a white-furred vulpine, returned to live in what used to be her home before the Cataclysm, hiding from the eyes of the tyrant. It all began from the times before the world was split.

Before the Cataclysm, her home used to be extensive farmland cultivating fruits and berries, where a forest of fruit trees and swathes of berry shrubs encircled her cottage. At the time of the Cataclysm, she lost it all, her home, her farm and her parents. While in emotional hardship, she had been gifted with powers from the light of the void below, allowing her to use those powers to adapt to the new world. When Oswell came to her aid, he offered her a home in the Tetra Hub. Romance blossomed as she met the love of her life, William Skye, while she worked around the hub.

Unfortunately, their love was short-lived and severed when Oswell hunted them down for their psionic abilities. William left Faye in a safe haven of a resistance base below the radars of Tetra before returning to the hub to confront Oswell, never to return after as he was said to disappear mysteriously.

A year later, Faye gave birth to her only daughter, a young vulpine she named Chase Skye, in a positive light that she would follow the skies and offer great change to the world. Like her, Chase was born as a Psion, blessed with similar psionic abilities she had as it was inherited from her.

Knowing that Psions posed a great danger to a large refugee group, she decided to return to the place where she knew was home to her and started from scratch. She rebuilt her home to what it was and recreated the farms she used to take care of, disguising herself and her daughter as run-off-the-mill farmers, laying low under the sights of Tetra. She hoped that Chase would someday grow strong enough to defend herself and additionally change the future through trying times.
