Chapter One: Anna.

The siren went off across the school. Kids scattered all over the place to meet their cliques. Teenagers always had that group where they knew they belonged. I watched them silently as they served food in the cafeteria. Blonde girls on a lot of pink passed me obnoxiously. The one who was obviously the "alpha" laughed on seeing my tangled curly hair I tied to a bun. She swung her hair at my face and kept walking.

I was already predicting my day and it was a prediction I wished I wanted to hear. Starting in new schools was very hard for an awkward girl like me. I never actually fit in. I was a horse girl and I knew that and preferred to admit it than being told by someone else. If only they knew who my brother was; Andre Kendell. If I could be half of who my brother was, life would not have been this frustrating. I sat at a table unable to eat. I had a feeling they all had my eyes on me. The blonde alpha girl walked up to me.

'You know, the spoon actually goes into your mouth.'

'This?' I blurted pointing at the fork. The girl laughed with so many other people. I did not know why I asked if  it was a spoon. Of course I knew what a spoon is but I was so nervous to think right.  The rest of the day went completely bad; I was now teased by students for not knowing what a spoon is. Students, who pass hold up a spoon like I did not know what it was. God what is wrong with me?

Once again I would have no story to tell Mom and Andre about school. They knew how hard school was but never quit asking. Soon I would see them at home and will have  to tell them "school was so fun" with a tight fake smile.

                 *********

Mum was surely home because I could hear her humming to a song playing on Spotify. I tip toed up the stairs of my own home to avoid my own mother seeing me.

Sure enough I got to my room safely; the only place I could confortably be myself. I pounced on the bed and smiled on how stealthy I acted.

Andre entered my room soon and I knew this was definitely the end of my personal hide and seek.

'Yo sup sis!! How you've been sneeking around and all?' Of course Andre saw me.

'Andre shut up. I don't want mum to come up here.' I said covering his mouth with my hand as I peeped at my door to know if Mom was coming.

     'How was_'

'Don't say how was school Andre.' I said under my breath even though Andre could hear me.

'Those ain't good words. So I'm guessing your first day was like the rest of 'em. Mom entered my room; all I've been trying to avoid.

'Anna hey! I didn't even know you were back but I heard Andre talking to someone who didn't sound like she's answering so I knew it was you.' Mom said with a smile.

'Hi Mom. How was your day?' I bet you've got a lot to tell me. I said. Of course I did not want mum to ask me any questions.

'No Anna. You're the one with the important day so you tell Andre and I.' Mom said then began to give me that ethusaistic look.

'School....wow...things I could say about school...em...I met some girls who...em... thought my eyes looked great and they all gave me their Snapchat numbers and—'

     'Lies.' Andre said plainly.

'No lies. I had fun sitting and having little chats with the...boys—'

'Anna that's quite enough.' Mom said sadly.

'If you joined any cliques, they were surely liars_bad liars.' Andre said with a hearty laughter but mum did not find it funny.

'I actually believed you when you said they thought you had great eyes.' Mom said running her fingers through my face.

'Yeah but you lost us when you said Snapchat number. What!' Andre said bursting into laughter. Mom joined too but I did not know what they were laughing at.

'I know how hard school is for you Anna.' Mom said stopping abruptly.

'Well we know who we can pin that on.'

'Andre!' Mom said. It was about to all go downhill. I suddenly wanted to talk about my day at school instead of having to deal with Andre's anger that would surely lead to breaking things.

'No mom. You and Anna always try to avoid the truth but it is that man's fault! Each time, we have to move because of him and his real family because we are nothing and Anna ends up a socially awkward person with endless problems at school and you...' Andre's anger had gotten to full point. Mom looked worried but said nothing. Andre left the room and as expected we heard smashings later on.

'Anna you can tell me about your day no matter how it is. Andre and I and your father are all here for you. Mom said and after some awkward silence she left my room.

You guessed right there was something wrong with my family and it was such a problem I could not even solve and Andre did not even want to solve. My parents have never been legally married, my mother has always been a mistress to my father though unintentionally. It has been hard hiding from his real family; his real white family. His British wife and twins. Andre has been angry at that ever since he found out mom's real place in dad's life.

I knew there was no way Andre would ever forgive my father. I slept thinking of how I would cope until I change school once again, because as long as dad's real wife was suspicious, we would always move and I will never fit in.
