New Friend

Closing his backpack, Jack walked out the door. Greendale wasn't that bad, he thought after he newly moved in this Town with his mom. Hopefully this would be her permanent job and her last transfer. As he walked lost in thoughts he bumped into someone knocking them down accidentally and falling down as well in the process.

"Watch it, jerk." The boy spat angrily.

"Sorry. I wasn't watching where I -" Jack replied by was cut off harshly. "Whatever pretty boy. " He muttered and got off the ground ignoring Jack's extended arm offered for help.

"I'm Jack! " He spoke loudly but the boy ignored and walked away.

Jack sat in History class, his eyes were on the teacher but his mind was elsewhere. "Psst! " A voice whispered behind him. Suddenly a paper ball hit his head he turned behind to see Alex looking at him with her brows raised up. "Dude! What are you doing? " Jack looked at her dumbfounded.

"What are you drawing?" She looked at him. Jack looked down at his notebook and was just as confused as her. He had scribbled some figures which he didn't understand. As if on time bell rang.

"Alright guys see you in the next class and don't forget your homework." The history teacher said dismissing the class. Before anyone else Jack was the first person to sprint out of the class. Alex as well as the others looked skeptical at Jack's behaviour.

During lunch Jack looked at his history book where he drew figures that he didn't understand. He traced his fingers across it. They looked so weird something he never saw before. Alex sat beside him and nudged his shoulder.

"What's up. You've been acting all weird since history." She asked. He shrugged and sipped his juice and looked back at the book. "Look I know this is all new with you moving in and everything but trust me it's gonna get better you just have to wait. " She smiled trying to cheer him but he choose to ignore her words.

" I brought this yummy turkey sandwich but I can't finish it all alone. Want some? " She asked giving him a slice of the sandwich but he didn't look up.

"Uhhh! I can't hold it for much long it's filled with so much heavy mayo and turkey and- " She exclaimed dramatically. "Okay. Okay. I'll take it, no need to be so dramatic. " He smiled taking the sandwich from her hand. They ate their sandwich and spoke randomly. Since Jack moved here Alex was his first friend all it ever took was her to borrow a pencil from him and they instantly clicked. Alex was just like an open book she loved talking and making everyone around her happy. Even though Jack never spoke much he still listened, even though they were pointless. As she continued babbling about another Star Wars movie a boy came running in the cafeteria.

"Fight in the parking lot! " He shouted and everyone one left their seats to watch the fight.

Alex and Jack came to the parking lot to find a huge crowd gathered. As they pushed through they saw three guys beat up a boy. The guys looked to be from another school but the boy being beaten up, Jack found him familiar. "What the hell " Alex gasped as she saw them beat him mercilessly.

"You crazy jackasses! " Someone screamed from behind. Jack turned behind and saw two boys running in his direction. They sprinted and bumped into his shoulder in the process as they ran past him. Jack almost lost his balance but regained his balance. The two boys ran and joined in the fight.

"Dude! This is gonna hit a million views! " The guy standing next to Alex exclaimed as he recorded their fight on his phone. "That's low. " Alex replied disgusted. "You're not helping either. " He chuckled looking at them. When Alex kept her mouth shut he gave her a victorious smirk.

The fight got even worse. It seemed like they were fighting out of revenge they were fighting for something much worse. They punched each other's guts, kicked each other's stomachs bashed each other's faces. Before things could get out of hand the principal and a few other teachers came to split up the fight. They dragged all six of them by the collar and walked to the principal's office.

Abruptly Jack realised something, the boy being beat up before being joined by the other two was none other than the boy who he bumped into in the morning.

After the last period, Jack put his books in the locker and shut it. As he was ready to leave he heard hushed voices as if they didn't want to be caught or heard. He walked towards the source of sound. The voices came from the art class as he walked towards the door the voices got clearer. The door was open ajar.

He peeped and saw the boys from the parking lot. He knew it was wrong but couldn't give up his courousity as he noticed the boy being beat up and the other two who jumped in to help him.

Were they discussing about the fight, Jack thought.

"I just happened to be at the wrong time. " The boy defended. "So that's your excuse. Mason are you still defending them? " The boy standing next to Mason asked. So that's his name Jack thought and looked at Mason and wondered how could he be so calm after all that happened.

"Guys they know we're empty, then why are they still after us?" The same boy asked looking at his two friends. "Because I pointed them towards us. " The other boy replied immediately. "Really. Leslie. Why the hell would you that? " He raised his voice angrily at him but Leslie looked away and looked at Mason. It looked like they knew something and he didn't. "Is there something you two are hiding and not telling me? " He asked again angrily.

Jack looked even more confused. What were these guys dealing with. He felt the need to leave and give them their privacy but he was even more curious at the same time. "I think Ross needs to know." Leslie said looking at him.

"Mason, what the hell is he talking about? " Ross asked. "Ross we-" Leslie started but was cut off when he abruptly his eyes landed on the door to find Jack eavesdropping. They all looked at Leslie and then turned to look in the same direction.

"Hey! What the hell you looking at? " Ross shouted and opened the door. Jack was caught snooping around he just hoped they wouldn't beat him like they tried beating those guys in the parking lot. He backed away from the door as they approached him.

"I just came to pick up some stuff I forgot. " Jack lied in reflex. "Listen, you little punk we- " Ross raised his voice and slammed his hand against the door opening it wide and letting it hit against the wall. "We were just leaving. " Mason replied interrupting him and left corridor with Ross following behind right behind.

Leslie looked at Jack from head to toe. "You're that new kid, Jackie? " He taunted on purpose. "It's Jack." Jack defended immediately. "Relax. No need to get all territorial besides.... " He pointed his finger at him but then smirked maliciously and shook his head. He intentionally bumped into Jack's shoulder and walked past him to only stop and add "Jackie, you should really work on your lieing skills."

Jack stood alone at the corridor. All this time he was an optimist for nothing. Thinking that he could make new friends. If things were about to get even more cruel, then this was just the beginning.
