21 Is this how I die?

"Aaahhh!"

Lila screamed as she saw the Commander push the ejected button. One minute she was in the ship airlock, then next she was looking at the blackness of space.

As the cell rotated on exiting the ship's airlock, Lila was able to see the vast void of space all around her.

Continuous puffs of breath covered the tiny cell window every time she exhaled blocked her view. She was hyperventilating, she couldn't stop herself, they actually ejected her!

There was nothing she could do, stuck in a coffin-like sleeper cell with the oxygen-deprived space surrounding her, Lila was helpless.

'Am I suppose to just wait for my death like this?'

Loathing her life, the people who killed her and even her soon-to-be death irked her. Emotions getting the best of her, Lila banged her hands and head against the walls of cells making the sleeper pitched its self up into a vertical position.

Frightened that she might have damaged the lock holding the lid closed, Lila stopped all movements.

After a few moments pass, and nothing went wrong, Lila looked out the window and saw the fleet staring back at her.

Lila watched as the fleet separated into single ships again, and prepare their engines for hyperdrive.

One minute they were all there and the next gone, just endless space in front of her.

Lila had always felt alone, but this was petrifying. To die like this with only the sound of your breathing for company, was pitiful.

"Is this how I'm going to die?"

Even when she didn't receive a ticket, she didn't feel as distraught as she did now.

"Fate, you are indeed wicked." Lila thought as she remembered the enjoy at receiving Ms. Joy ticket. Now here she was once again at death's door.

On thinking of her whole life, Lila's helplessness soon washed away and rage set in. Lila cursed Kara, Pace, the Commander and everyone else board the fleet.

"Those ass**les!" Tears coursed down her face, seeing Kara's and Pace's victorious faces and the Commanders' cold one.

_____

Having tired herself out from all the crying and yelling, Lila just laid depressingly inside the cell as it floated pass distance stars.

Hoping to sleep her way through her death, Lila slowed her breathing and waited for her mind to shut down. Trying to moving into a better position, she slowly closed her eyes.

*Boom!*

A loud thunder-like sound projected into the sleeper cell, followed by a force that knocked Lila awake. Eyes open, she frantically looked this way and that, thinking perhaps the fleet came back for her. But instead, what met her eyes was a giant colorful hole.

"Th-Th-This can't be what I think it is? Can it?"

Right before her eyes, the hole's opening became larger as light illuminated from within delivering the most magnificent sight Lila has ever seen.

"It's a wormhole! A wormhole...How? Why did it pop up here?" Lila laughed as she tried to take in every inch of the wormhole in front of her.

Caught up in the occurrence taking place, she failed to realize the surrounding stars being sucked into the hole.

It finally dawned on her when the hole's opening was closer than it was before, and that the wormhole was sucking her in.

Feeling the gravitational pull on her sleeper cell, trepidation set in followed by a feeling of serendipity.

"Why are you scared, Lila? Not many get to see this kind of sight in their lifetimes. At least I can see and experience this before I die, right?" Laughing, Lila decides to enjoy the ride.

After being engulfed, Lila noticed she was traveling at a faster speed than the fleet's hyperdrive. Assuming the cell's shell can hold up against the wormhole's pressure, Lila relaxed as she watched the stars zooming pass her.

"This is amazing! Will I make i-"

Just as Lila was thinking of where the wormhole will take her, the alarms of the sleeper cell blared in her ears.

"Warning! Warning! Oxygen levels are low. Please refuel. Warning! Warning!..."

"Damn it! Couldn't it have held on until I made it out?... You've screwed me over once again, fate!" Lila yelled.

Determine to not let her imposing death destroy the last moment of her life, Lila ignored the alarms and savors the scene before her.

Soon though her breaths become shorter and weaker, and her body grew lethargic. Lila knew the end was near.

Inhale, exhale...

Inhale, exhale...

Inhale...

____

Weightlessness, that was all Lila felt. Airy and free, nothing but feathery lightness. Lila opened her eyes...

"What hell!?..." she was still in the wormhole.

"How is this possible?"

Turning behind her, Lila came face to face with herself. Her body still laid inside the cell, and her eyes were closed, almost like she was sleeping.

Her face was very tranquil. Looking down at her hands, she saw there was no solidity to them, they were translucent.

Looking back at her face in the cell then down at her hands, Lila had never believed in anything spiritual, but she now believed in souls.

"It must be this wormhole..." Thinking it was more than what it seems, Lila tried to jump back into her body, but her body just passed right through.

*Sigh*

"Why go back anyways, Lila. Just to die in there again...?" Shaking her head at her foolishness.

With no way back into her body, Lila just flowed there in front of her body watching it in a daze.

After a few minutes, Lila recognized changes happening to the sleeper cell. A few fissures and corrosion developed at its edges and bolts. When looking at her face, Lila saw signs of decomposing. Within moments, her skin looked dry and grayish.

This wormhole not only made traveling faster but also sped time up.

Lila continued to watch as the cell, and her body disintegrated into dust before her eyes.
