She shuddered at the thought. Yllana could almost hear the cries of babies within the stones. Unborn ones are still souls that have entered the reincarnation cycle, but then... such number was sacrificed just to make three shortcuts to places? 

"If we destroy the gates," Lucien eyed Yllana, "will those lives come back to the reincarnation cycle?" He was asking the Nymphean Empress, but it seems the question was more directed for Yllana to hear since he did not look away from her. 

"No, those lives cannot be taken back since they have been fused into the gates by a powerful spell. The souls have been destroyed, so to say. And that is a burden we all continue to share and will share until the last one of our kind dies."

Yllana's mouth twitched, "Then why did you sacrifice them knowing you will suffer?! All these... For what kind of future? Do you even have the guts to look into the eyes of the nymphean children?"
