102 Chp 97 : The Thing Called 4th Wall Break

You won't know how a single review could leave you unrest, unable to sleep, and anxious. Even they tried to call it "constructive critics", but by adding some subjective judgement such as "piss me off", "so bad", etc, it became "destructive".

I pity most of the author, filmaker or any artist who tried so hard without making any grand in their works.

Tried to ignore it but some people's heart wasn't made of plastic. So, just enjoy the chapter. Didn't even care anymore, I'll just have to finish this book till last chapter, trying to bring the best out of this book and then retire.

Don't worry, it won't be cancelled, just try to holding on to my story guys, try to not get too serious while reading it.

Grabbing her hand, Al pulled Ione to the seat where nobody could see them. He picked these seats so he won't be disturbed by annoying fans or press that would ask him something.

No one also seemed to bother them, that girl was his date tonight and they can do anything they wanted to, especially since both of them were a teenager and treated them like a horny couple who wanted to have fun in the dark.

Hollywood is a place where some people can go to the restroom for a half-hour with their partner without someone batting an eye at them.

This theatre was also a paparazzi-free zone and the only reporters invited were from Paramount media subsidiaries or any who had inner circle contact with them.

So if any of them reported bad publicity in one of their media, just say goodbye to their careers.

Not only them but also critics from the inner circle media were invited here. This was also a strategy to prevent any negative review before the film had a theatrical release.

Before the film start, John Hughes and Tom Jacobson came to the stage and made several greetings.

As John Hughes made a little speech about how lucky he was to have a collaboration with Alphonse Brandt-- The Hollywood Wonder Boy, he had only a good word for him and praised his good luck to be able to work with him.

He also said that he had seen the studio cut version of his film and he was satisfied because it was like the one he had envisioned and the audience would be surprised to see that this would be another classic.

He also said that Alphonse Brandt had breathed his soul into this role and made another classic character that could be on par with Alien Boy, Ghost Boy, or Marty McFly.

As he didn't want to waste more time, he told the audience to watch this film and dip into another classic role that Alphonse would play.

"He looks very happy, and it's rare to see a director praised the actor more than himself, and this one is a director who had made a name for himself." As John Hughes stepped down from the stages, a man who was fortunate to be able to watch the film before the release, spoke to a man beside him.

"Maybe he just really like him, remember any role that Alphonse Brandt played would be a classic and no one had questioned his box office ability." He replied.

Then the man snorted, "You praise him too much Kenneth; you did get the increase in sales from his article in LA Times, I remember he would soon finish the contract with your newspaper and release a book."

"I only said the truth, Roger. And yes he did. He said that he already ran out of his creativity in making children stories." He gave a helpless smile.

Their loud banter didn't unheard by everyone near them. Although some of them were mad because they were noisy, after knowing who were they, they immediately closed their mouth.

Both of them were that famous critic, one is from Los Angeles Times-- Kenneth Turan and one from Chicago Sun-- Roger Ebert, and in the early 90s, nobody would question their authority.

The newspaper was one of the media that common people preferred if they want to see a movie they wanted to watch.

If they told the film is bad, it affected the audience interest to watch that movie.

As the theatre light started to dim, the Paramount Pictures logo was shown on the theatre screen.

The film started with Ferris Bueller, played by Alphonse Brandt was lying on his bed, with his bad acting in faking illness and made the audience laughed.

But some of the critics became unconvinced, if this is how Al was going to act for the rest of the film, it would be disappointing.

Would this film be the fall of the child actors' career? The critic from The Hollywood Reporter was smiling smugly but his smug face soon disappeared.

Ferris's parents believed he was ill, though his sister Jeanie did not. After he had conned them, Alphonse was finally showed his brilliant acting.

Wearing white and red striped pajamas, he delivered the performance of an arrogant, spoilt brat but likable character.

Unlike Broderick's performance in his previous life, Al's performance was better, it was smooth, quirky, and a bit cheeky.

Not only that, with Alphonse's attractive face, he was able to easily charm the audiences, especially females.

Alphonse then made them dumbfounded because, throughout the film, he broke the fourth wall to talk about his friends and give the audience advice on various subjects, like how to faking out illnesses.

This sent chills to some of the critics, it was as if they were talking to him via movie screen; a perfect nine performances!

Not 10 minutes passed after the film started, the audience screamed again, especially females. The bathroom scene, the topless Al, his perfect lean muscle, and his packed abs had made the females in the theatre thirst after him.

The theatre hall tried to search for Al but he was unseen from his reserved seat. Looks like he was right for choosing this seat that far from anyone else.

"W-wow, Al. I-is that r-real? Just, wow." Ione commented.

"Wipe your droll, Ione. It's unladylike." He warned.

Ione reached her mouth with her hand and felt no droll dripped from her mouth. Then soon she knew she was being teased and pinched his waist.

He just squirmed in pain and asked for forgiveness from her. She let go of his waist with a victory grin.

The film continued, Dean of Students Edward R. Rooney suspected Ferris was a repeat truant and committed to catching him.

Ferris convinces his best friend Cameron Frye, who is legitimately absent due to illness to help lure Ferris' girlfriend Sloane Peterson from school on the pretext of her grandmother's supposed demise.

To further the ruse, Ferris borrows Cameron's father's prized 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder. When they picked up Sloane from school, the audiences were smiling because they finally saw the first on-screen kiss Al ever had.

Once again, Ione pinched his waist and made him giving her a quizzical look. She then gave him a triumph smirks as if she was saying "I'm the first one.".

Cameron was dismayed when Ferris took them into downtown Chicago in the car, to spend the day. Ferris promises they will return it as it was.

The trio left the car with parking attendants, who promptly took the car for a joyride. The trio explored the city, including the Art Institute of Chicago, Sears Tower, Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and attends a ball game at Wrigley Field, and their paths occasionally intersect with that of Ferris' father.

This made the audience wanted to do the same things as Ferris did in the movie.

Cameron remains worried, and Ferris attempts to cheer him up by joining a parade float during the Von Steuben Day parade and spontaneously lip-syncing Wayne Newton's cover of "Danke Schoen", followed by a rendition of the Beatles' "Twist and Shout" that excites the gathered crowds whether in the movie or the theatre. Once again Al had made a memorable scene that could be put into one of the classic scenes in history.

Meanwhile, Rooney prowled the Bueller home attempting to prove Ferris' truancy, getting into several pratfalls.

At the same time, Jeanie, frustrated that the entire school supports and will rally for Ferris, skipped class and returned home to confront him. She was surprised by Rooney's presence at their home and knocked him unconscious.

As she phones the police, he gained consciousness and went back outside, unknowingly leaving his wallet behind.

When the police arrive, they disbelieved her and placed her under arrest for making a false report. Waiting for her mother to collect her from the police station, she meets a juvenile delinquent who advises her not to worry so much.

This juvenile played by Charlie Sheen was able to deliver amazing performance with only a few minutes of appearance. Al admitted he was a good actor, but the unnecessary hostility he gave was giving Al a bad impression of him.

The friends collect the Ferrari from the parking lot and head home. Discovering many more miles on the odometer, Cameron becomes catatonic with shock. Back at Cameron's house, Ferris jacks up the car and runs it in reverse to "rewind" the odometer.

This does not succeed and Cameron finally snaps, letting out his anger against his overbearing father. Repeatedly kicking the car causes the jack to fail and the car races in reverse through the wall and into the ravine below.

Ferris offered to take the blame, but Cameron declines the offer and decides he will stand up against his father. Meanwhile, Mrs. Bueller arrives at the station, upset about having to forgo a house sale, only to become infuriated to find Jeanie kissing the delinquent.

Ferris gets Sloane home and realized his parents are due home any minute. As he raced on foot through the neighborhood, he was nearly hit by Jeanie, who is driving their mother home.

She sped off trying to get home before him and expose his lie. Ferris made it home first but found Rooney was there. Jeanie raced into the house as their mother complained to their father about her behavior.

Jeanie discovered Rooney threatening Ferris and thanked Rooney for helping return Ferris "from the hospital." She displayed Rooney's wallet as proof that he was the one that broke into the house and Rooney gave up.

As Rooney flees from Ferris' dog, Ferris rushed back to his bedroom to greet his parents when they check in on him. Finding him sweaty and overheated (from his run) they suggest he might want to think about taking tomorrow off as well.

As the parents left, Ferris broke the 4th wall again and reminded the audience, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."

Everyone in the theatre was smilling when they heard that. A life advice from a high school kid had moved their hearts.

On the end credits, a defeated Rooney heads home and is picked up by a school bus, where he is further humiliated by the students.

After the credits, Ferris surprised them again by telling the audience the film is over and to go home which made several people almost died for laughing.

As the theatre amber light shone bright warming the cold theatre, most of the audience was still in a state of amusement.

That last scene was so iconic, he dared to joke about his godfather being too old to direct a sequel.

One clap from one person spread like a mushroom after rain. Now everyone in the theatre gave standing applause, and not only the regular applause to honor the film, but the applause that they gave because the film was better than they had predicted.

No, calling it better was an understatement, it was grander than they expected. It might be the best film they had watched this summer yet.

John Hughes was happy, another film he directed was a success.

As the cast and crews went up to the stage for the interviews, John Hughes as the director said thanks to everyone because the audience seemed to enjoy his film.

He wasn't wrong for choosing Al as the leading role. Then the reporters started to ask some of the questions they had.

John and Al answered every question with a humble attitude and sometimes gave the other cast to answer for them, especially Alan Ruck who had been the shining counterpart of Ferris Bueller.

Some questions were ambiguously asked by one of the reporters such as.

"Al, this would be your first on-screen kiss, how did you feel? Do you and Ms. Sara have something going on?"

Al took the mic and said, "Yes it was my first time and Ms. Sloan ravishingly took it from me..." Everyone giggled at his answer. "Well, for a fun fact, it was my first kiss that was shown on the screen. Once in <E.T>, I had this scene that told me to kiss one of the girls. I think her name was Erika Eleniak. But Drew got jealous and Steven had to cancel it." Everyone was laughing at his joke. But is what he said true?

Then he evilly smirked, "As for me and Ms. Sara, she rejected my advance because I'm still too immature for her."

"Whoaa!!!" Everyone in the theatre hall screamed, Mia Sara knew she had been pranked by Al. So she pouted her lips and made a fake angry face at him.

"Well, looks like she misses the jackpot." The interviewer jokingly said and everyone was laughing alongside the reporter.

"Mr. Brandt, will this film's box office able to surpass your previous record. Such as <E.T>, <Sixth Sense>, and <Back to the Future> that each had, $350 million, $300 million, and $250 million domestically?"

"Well, I could just hope that it would pass $200 million because that would be more money for me to get. I only wish my loyal fans support to make another record then." He said while smiling.

After tugging him more, they finally got the answer that Al had signed a domestic box office sharing clause to the Paramount as much as 10%.

That made everyone sucked their breath. It meant that if Al got $200 million box office, he would be paid $20 million, plus with his payment of $10 million, he would get at least $30 million for this single film!

This news made everyone roared, he would be the highest-paid young actor in Hollywood, and everyone was agreed he was worth every cent of it.

The only person who was looking at him with a look of hatred and jealousy was Charlie Sheen.

As the session nearing its end, John Hughes said farewell to everyone else. He also said that they would hold a celebration party in InterContinental Hotel.

"Do you want to go Ione?" Al asked.

"Of course, it's your film celebration party Al. Don't worry about me. I also want to see how Hollywood's party would like."

"As you wish, but never disappear from my sight. This kind of party is dangerous for us, remember; everything can happen in Hollywood." He warned her.

"I know, you always reminded me of it. I want to be famous and follow my dream as an actress but I don't want to be drunk in vanity."

"Smart girl, at least you had your head in the game. Unfortunately, you are just bad judgment for your dating choice." He patted her head while she was pouting because of his sarcastic yet right-on-the-spot words.

Well, he reminded her that the one who asked her for a date was a man who was in the mid-20s but looked like in his early 40s.

Also, he told her that he had a drug problem and he hoped Ione would stay away from dating anyone from band members.

On their way to their picking-up zone, they saw Kristy Swanson who seemed to be bothered by an old man with an expensive Burberry suit.

Ione tugged his shirt and he nodded at her. He knew she was asking for him to save her.

So he hurriedly walked in their direction and loudly announced his presence to them.

"Kristy! There you are! I was looking for you. Do you have any rides to the party? We could go together if you don't." He winked at her, giving her a signal.

"Yes Al, I would love to." Then she turned to the old man and said, "Thank you for your offer sir, but I think I want to go with him."

The old man didn't seem to get mad to be rejected, even he smiled with interest, not at her but him.

"Alphonse Brandt-- the Hollywood Wonder Boy; it's nice to see you here. Ah, where's my manner, my name is Scotty Bowers, I'm just offering this nice lady a ride and also an offer that might interest her, and maybe, this offer might also interest you."

"Nice to meet you too Mr. Bowers, pardon my rudeness but may I know what offers would you ask her that might interest me?" He cautiously asked.

He grinned, "Mr. Brandt, do you know that there are some people who dared to take out at least $1 million or even more for just spending time with you for only 1 hour?"

His eyes widened, "The hell, Are you a fucking pimp?" Then he paused after he finally recognized the name, "You are that famous Hollywood's pimp? Scotty Bowers?"

Not only him, Ione and Kristy's eyes were also widened after hearing what Al just said.

Scotty Bowers just grinned and slowly bowed at them like he was a showman.
