Chapter 65: Dudley's Favorite thing: Saying 'NO' in front of those who are self-righteous

"'Good question!'"

Dudley was also curious about why they ended up here.

He was one hundred percent sure that he followed the original route and couldn't have gone wrong. On one hand, Dudley was confident in his memory, and on the other hand, this was the only staircase leading from the third-floor prize display room to the Gryffindor common room.

Clearly, when the group entered the prize display room, the staircase's position had changed.

The staircase that originally led to Gryffindor had been directly moved to the corridor on the fourth floor, where entry was forbidden.

"Want to go through?"

Although Harry was asking, in reality, he was eager to explore.

Ever since Dumbledore mentioned this place, he had been curious, but the opportunity never presented itself.

Now, it seemed they had arrived at the right place. Without taking this corridor, there seemed to be no way back to Gryffindor. Was this fate?

Curiosity killed the cat.

Well, lions are also felines.

Fate my foot?

Dudley scoffed.

There aren't so many coincidences in the world; Dudley wouldn't fall for such an obviously problematic situation.

Turning to the others, he said, "Come with me to the Slytherin common room."

Since there were plenty of rooms in the Slytherin dormitory, adding three more people wouldn't be a big deal.

The Slytherin common room was downstairs, just follow the original path back, and take the stairs downwards.

"See the way back?"

Draco's panicked voice came from behind. They all turned to look, only to see the area below the stairs empty. The stairs' end was now hanging in mid-air, with no way back.

Dudley: "."

If they didn't consider going through the fourth-floor corridor now, they could only wait for the stairs to slowly connect to another place. However, they didn't know how long it would take, perhaps until dawn without any changes.

Dudley sneered, "Regardless of the purpose, I, Dudley Dursley..."

"Love saying 'NO' to those who are self-righteous!"

"Hermione, hold on to me."

Hermione: "?"

With a low growl, Dudley wrapped his right arm around Hermione's waist, stepped onto the edge of the stairs, and with a powerful push, leaped into the air. Amid Hermione's screams, Dudley landed directly on the nearest staircase.

The whole process was very smooth, taking less than three seconds.

After completing all of this, Dudley, like a monkey, jumped back. One by one, he brought Draco, Harry, and Ron to the staircase as if picking up chicks.

It seemed like a simple jumping motion, but in reality, there was a gap of at least ten meters between the two staircases.

"That scared me. Next time, give me a heads up."

Hermione's face slightly paled, and she complained while pounding his chest with small fists.

Ron was also quite scared, his face even paler. But expecting him to complain to Dudley was definitely out of the question.

"Too thrilling."

Harry and Draco were a bit better, but they were also scared. However, after the excitement, the two seemed somewhat thrilled.

"Now we can continue."

Dudley clapped his hands and signaled the others to continue towards the Gryffindor common room.

Harry looked back at the corridor with a tinge of regret.

Self-examining, he really wanted to explore.

However, they were already on the fifth-floor stairs. Regardless of how the stairs changed, they couldn't go back to the fourth floor unless they voluntarily went down or the stairs turned around.

"Meow~"

Just as they were about to pass through the corridor, a sudden cat's cry made Harry and the others tense.

A skinny, dark gray cat with elegant steps appeared at the end of the corridor.

It stared at them with its bulbous eyes.

"Oh no! It's Mrs. Norris!"

Ron exclaimed, recognizing the cat. There was only one cat like this in all of Hogwarts, and it belonged to the caretaker Filch.

Mrs. Norris's presence meant Filch was nearby. As long as the cat called, filch would quickly come over.

They were definitely going to be caught!

"We're finished, we're done for this time!"

Ron let out a desperate growl.

Whether it was his illusion or not, he seemed to see Mrs. Norris's mouth slightly curl up, as if laughing. She was actually laughing at them about to be caught.

"We can go back, find a place on the fourth floor to hide."

Draco reacted faster than Ron, and he was more composed. He immediately thought of a solution.

Even if filch was nearby, it would take some time for him to rush over upon hearing Mrs. Norris's call. As long as they seized this gap in time, they could go back to the fourth floor, find a place to hide, and there might still be hope.

As for whether it was forbidden or not, it didn't matter now. For their current situation, not getting caught was the most important.

Hermione was also a bit panicked, holding her wand tightly, making her knuckles turn white. She kept thinking about what spell could solve their current problem.

"Should I just petrify it all at once?"

Just when the other wizards were confused, Dudley once again made an unexpected move. Not only did he not mean to run away, but he leaned down and waved gently to Mrs. Norris, with some pain in his throat. Makeing strange noises. Since they were at a distance, Ron didn't hear it clearly, but it seemed like some sort of purring?

"Has he gone mad?"

However, a jaw-dropping scene unfolded. Mrs. Norris not only didn't immediately call Filch, but at Dudley's call, she quickly ran to his side, rubbing against Dudley's pants, seemingly trying to please him.

"Ten pieces? You're too greedy."

Hermione, closest to Dudley, vaguely heard him saying something. Was he talking to Mrs. Norris?

Talking to a cat? Impossible!

That was Hermione's initial reaction.

However, upon further thought, they were in the magical world, and nothing was impossible.

Parseltongue speakers, although rarely documented in history, did exist.

Seeing a chance for things to turn around, Draco and Ron were so excited that they were almost about to hug each other. However, just as they were about to touch, they suddenly reacted, pushed away from each other as if electrocuted, and clung to the staircase railing, starting to gag.

Soon, under their gaze, Mrs. Norris, who was usually aloof, cunning, and never accepted any snacks from students, and always followed Filch, lay directly in front of Dudley. She rolled back and forth on the ground, making purring sounds and even exposing her soft belly.

Was she trying to be cute?
