9 Heroes of Our Society

Ford's Pov

"Sir, the lieutenant called."

Oh so they found her already

I must commend them for such good work.

Maybe I should consider my next charity to be for the heroes of our society, after all they put their lives on the line night and day to keep everybody safe. Well not everybody, as apparent from two nights ago.

"What could the lieutenant of NYPD want from us?" Of course i can't portray my awareness of the matter they wanna see me for, to my assistant. Clueless it is.

"The lieutenant didn't say, sir. Only that it's urgent for them to have a meeting with you, I guess he did say it's something about a new case?"

"A case? I wonder what I have to do with it. Hmmm...any how, confirm a meeting with them for today will you please?"

"Already have sir, they are given a time just before the lunch".

Good it'll be fun. I was having a rather dull day today, after this morning.

------------

I was busy with having an online conference with a bunch of investors from my UK projects when I was notified by my trusty secretary the NYPD has arrived in the building. Quickly I wrapped up the discussion and checked the CCTV footage on my screen and indeed a few of the uniforms were at the reception and were being directed toward the elevators.

I saw the clock, punctual I must say. They are continuing to impress me further.

I sat up straight and rested my elbows on the table with my hands joined under my chin and waited patiently for my lovely guests.

The door to my office opened, I looked up and stood from my place as a sign of respect for our approaching heroes.

"Good afternoon Mr. Zoldyck, we appreciate you could see us on such short notice, I'm Lieutenant Richards", the only guy without uniform said shaking my hand firmly.

"Of course Lieutenant, It's my pleasure to be of any help to you and your department. You help keep the society safe after all. You people are our local heroes." I said with a smile and a firm hand shake. "Please, gents have a seat."

"So what can I help you with Lt. Richards?" I asked as soon as I sat back on my chair.

He must be new on this post or maybe it's the district thing, perhaps, because I've had a few encounters with NYPD before, given my line of work; but I've never seen him before.

"Mr. Zoldyck we-"

"Just call me Ford, Lt." I interrupted him in mid-sentence. Though now I think maybe I shouldn't have, for a second he held something in his eyes like he was deciphering me, observing me, of why I was being too friendly with him.

What? Is being cordial dead from this world? Okay may be I did just over did it a little.

I have to be careful around this Lieutenant, I can tell just by looking at him, he's not a fool to be easily swayed by money or power, you know the righteous kind.
