''Annalise,'' Dante knocked on the door, calling for his second wife.
''Annalise.''
''Annalise, please open the door.'' He continued knocking with his gaze sullen, ''You can't shut me out.''
Annalise, that did not see anyone…not even Dante, since two days after the warning from the duchess, slowly opened the door for him.
Her dainty fingers rested on the edge of the door as her gaze stayed on the ground for a while, then slowly rose up to him.
Just the sight of his dear wife made Dante, feel as if someone pierced a knife through his heart.
Her swollen eyelids evident of her teary state, her puffy and slightly haggard angelic face, wet misty green eyes that used to be bright and cheery, dried reddened cheeks, and protruding, trembling lower lips,
Her present state showed him how much she shed tears and he had the nerve not to see her immediately, even if she had been ignoring him.
''Sorry,'' He brought her into his embrace and hugged her. His arms tightened. '' I am so sorry.''
''Dante,'' Annalise's eyes brimmed with tears until they fell again. Her arms also went around the dante's waist. ''I am sorry, I did not know that I made the duchess angry by using her garden. I thought she allowed us to get married in that place. It was such a beautiful garden, and I really wanted to thank her, but I-I..''
''Shhh, it's okay,'' Dante softly cut her off. Now he did not want to hear about his first wife. This woman in his arms has been with him from day one. They loved each other so much, and because of some feelings that he suddenly developed for his first wife, he ignored her because of the guilt in his heart. How could he do that to the love of his life? She was the light in his dark world and He did not want to break the love between them.
He and Annalise deserved each other, regardless of the many opposing words.
''It's okay, my love.'' Dante leaned backward to wipe her petal-like tears. '' I was at fault that day. If I had gone to you immediately, we wouldn't be in this predicament,''
''No, the duchess is right. I mean, which original wife would welcome her husband's mistress?'' Annalise smiled sadly.
''Annalise!'' Dante's shout made her jump a little. She stared wide-eyed, not expecting him to react like that.
That word, mistress...Dante hated it and continues to hate it with his heart. The woman who held his heart should never say those lowly words.
''You are not a mistress. You are my wife, my love, and the mother of my child, so do not insult yourself,'' Dante said seriously.
''O-Okay,'' A little stunned, annalise nodded her head with made him relieved.
''Let's go in.'' Saying that, Dante held her hands, and they went into the room together.
After closing the door, he took Annalise to sit on the bed, and he sat down beside her.
''Are you okay?'' He asked, carefully.
''Yes,'' Annalise wiped her tears with a happy grin.''I missed you and our baby also missed you.''
''Really?'' Arching an eyebrow, he put his hand on her baby bump, '' Baby misses his father?''
''Yes, he does,'' Annalise playfully answered while overlapping her hand on his.
''He? You want a boy?'' Dante looked up from her belly.
''Mmm'' Annalise nodded with doting eyes. ''I want a child that looks like you.''
''Me? But I want a girl that looks like you,'' Dante argued as he thought a smaller version of annalise would be very cute. He would carry her, feed her, play with her, and dress her up. He would want to experience many things with the child.
'' Then, let's see if the child would be a girl or boy, Dante. Though I feel the baby would be a boy.''
''Boy or Girl, my love for the child would not change.'' He pecked Annalise's forehead and brought their hands onto his lap.
''What of a name?'' Annalise had been thinking about a name for the baby, but all the names, she thought, for some reason, brought dissatisfaction in her heart.
''Name..'' Dante murmured as he thought of a name. A name for his and Annalise's child.
''Damian..'' He mumbled a name, but annalise did not hear his words well.
''What?''
''Damian,'' Dante repeated a little louder. The name rolled out of his tongue so well. It brought a happy feeling to his heart. He did not know why, but he wanted their child's name to be Damian, though he did not know if the gender would actually be a boy.
''But I thought you wanted the child to be a girl?'' Annalise did not expect Dante to think of a boy's name. He clearly stated that he wanted the baby to be a girl.
''Since you feel that the baby would be a boy, then his name would be Damian,'' A warm smile graced his lips and doting eyes as he placed his palm on her belly, ''Damian Hayes, our lovely son.''
''Right..'' Annalise also smiled as she copied his actions. However, her thoughts were different from the warm atmosphere.
Ever since that day, when she and the duchess spoke to each other, she also expected Dante to come to her, as she knew that he loved her more than anyone else…But he didn't. He stood there frozen from the beginning to the end without glancing in her direction, and that brought fear into her heart.
Thinking that her position in his heart was shaking, she couldn't help but recall that day. The day that her master gave her a name.
''You are to seduce the duke of the hayes duchy,'' Her master revealed his real intentions for buying her from the auction. ''That's the reason why I bought you. Your appearance should fit his taste, and the cake's recipe that my subordinate taught you, should also catch his attention.''
''Don't disappoint me, my dear annalise,'' His red eyes that curved into a crescent shape gleamed so beautifully, and his hard hand cupped her cheeks so lovingly.
She, as a slave, had never experienced being treated like this..so precious, so significant..like a human being.
He was her savior, her master, and the owner of her life. He gave her a name, status, and the reason for her existence. Regardless of his true intentions, whether good or evil, she would fulfill his wish, no matter what.
''Yes, master,'' In her tattered dirty gown, she snuggled her face into those hands that provided ten thousand golden coins for her to be bought from that horrible place.
''That's good to hear, my beautiful annalise.''
