6 6_A Fallen Angel

That night, Li Yao stayed late at her workplace in order to do some research regarding her very first case that she would be handling alone. She first thought that she would just be a general practice lawyer who wouldn't be specializing in any particular area of law and that it would be easier for her to practice a wide range of law and legal issues. But the first case she got was related to litigation. She didn't know if it was best for her to decide what was suitable for her to continue to work on but she actually already had an idea of what she wanted to do.

'Litigation.. hm..' she pondered for some time while she began cleaning up her desk to go back home.

She was excited to do this first task as it was her goal to become a top lawyer who could legally practice law in the court. She wanted to make sure that she did everything precisely.

It was dark as some lights had been turn off in the office building. Li Yao took a glance at the clock on the wall, it was a quarter before ten. She decided that it was time to wrap up and continue tomorrow. As she was busy packing up her stuff, she heard a sound of a door being opened then closed again.

Li Yao immediately turned to the source, there she saw a man standing in front of his office door seemingly puzzled as to why she was still in the office at this hour.

"Miss Li? Why are you still here?" Head Attorney Wang inquired. There was a coat hanging by his left arm, he was just in his formal white shirt.

"Huh?" Li Yao became immobile. How come Head Attorney Wang didn't go back home yet? As far as she knew, she was the only one in the office.

"Looks like you also want to head home now. Let me send you back." he said while he wore a soft smile.

Noting that she wasn't aware that he was still in the office together with her, he chuckled. How could she be so clueless?

"Ah, no need.. it's fine." breaking off from her train of thoughts, Li Yao politely declined.

"You're a lady. It's inappropriate to go back home late at night." Head Attorney Wang told her to which she blushed.

Li Yao accepted his kind gesture.

While they were in his car, Head Attorney Wang cleared his throat while he secretly trailed his eyes on her. He realized that Li Yao was actually very beautiful at the very first moment he saw her. He liked her determination to stay on tracks as a professional lawyer. She did her job well and he loved seeing her doing her best.

For Li Yao, Head Attorney Wang was someone she couldn't afford to come close to. Although she noticed that he favored her more than others, she thought that it was purely because of her hard work to become just like him. He had told her that he liked her attitude towards her job more than anyone.

He was so young when he took the position as a head attorney. And he was very promising too. He never lost a case ever since he became an attorney. And he was known as a snake in the court, very meticulous yet poisonous in his claims.

"So.. you were studying your first case?" Head Attorney Wang asked Li Yao.

"Yes, I want to familiarize myself with the data." she answered him very formally.

"No need to be so formal. We're not in the office." he chuckled hearing her.

Li Yao lowered her head slowly as she was shy. He was her mentor and role model! Of course she would act formal with him. He was so hard to approach and he was also known to only value great work and result. He didn't pay attention to insignificant things. But now he wanted her to be familiar with him? No way!

A tint of blush crept through her cheeks as she looked away to the window. Head Attorney Wang was 10 years older than her, he was 33 this year, but still so hot and handsome. She couldn't help but swoon a little bit.

The after party ended quite late, and Mu Lihai had to stay until the end as he was the center of attention who was celebrated that night.

"Lihai, let's hang out together this weekend! You can't say no since you've been MIA for so long!" Liu Gaonan reminded Mu Lihai over their meeting. He had been doing so for the past hour because he really wanted to catch up more with Mu Lihai.

"Yes.. I got it. I won't go MIA anymore." he chuckled as he heard his friend. It was so refreshing to see Liu Gaonan acting like this again. He never changed.

As he sent them out, he was alone again. Standing by the entrance of the hotel, he rested his back to the wall. With his arms crossed against his chest and his head facing the above of the dark sky, he sighed a million thoughts away.

Mu Lihai waited for his car to arrive as he breath through his palm slowly, creating a puff of air. It was almost winter, but it was already quite chilly for him. He was someone who couldn't stand the cold. He often got sick when he was exposed to cold air for too long. There were times that due to his anemia, he even fainted out of nowhere.

As he was there waiting, he decided to wait by the roadside so that once the car arrived, he would immediately get into it.

Mu Lihai didn't see a car passing by him as he was engrossed in his thoughts. That car was the one Li Yao was in, together with Head Attorney Wang. And she saw him on the road as she was busy facing the window.

One thought crossed her mind when she saw him: he was ethereally distant. Distant but in an ethereal way. If she didn't know any better, then she might think that she was seeing a fallen angel. His face was just too beautiful for her to describe. His chiselled jawline and high bridge nose really didn't suit the expression he was making. He looked so distant and troubled in his own thinking that she even had a thought of caressing his brow to ease the frown on his face.

'What was I thinking?' she quickly threw the ridiculous idea out the window.
