1 Seeing Him Again

Katerina looked up from reading her book. The clock kept ticking as she looked out the window. Thirty minutes. Tick tick tick. Forty-five minutes. Tick tick tick. One hour. She suddenly thrust the blankets off of her as she jumped up from the couch. This was it. This was the last straw. Kat ran to the kitchen, sliding to a stop on the polished floors with her comfy soft socks. She opens the fridge and gently with both hands on each side, she takes the platter out of the fridge. Her eyes gleam at the sight before her. Yes. This was right. Without bothering to grab a plate, she goes strait for a fork and starts digging in. One hour. She could already hear her best friend scolding her on how she couldn't even last one hour without stuffing her face into something as delicious as sweet velvet chocolate cake. Boy, was she proved wrong!

Taking the empty platter and fork, she gently washed away her sweet sweet evidence. She took a towel and gently dried her dishes and put them away. She may be a slob at heart when it came to her food but she was pretty tidy otherwise.

Once she has cleaned herself up, she called up her best friend. "Amaya, guess who just lasted an hour before eating cake?" Kat squealed.

"No way! How'd you ever do it?" Amaya questioned.

"Let's just say that it was hard, and I couldn't last a second longer!" Kat let out.

"That's my girl I know!" Amaya proudly exclaimed. " Let's celebrate by treating you to a movie and shopping! " she added. Kat's smile got wider, "if it pleases your majesty!" She gladly agreed. "Let's meet at three so I have time to replace my mother's cake!" In her effort to prove her friend wrong, Kat forgot the reason they had the cake in the first place, but as long as she replaced it in time, her mother would not be the wiser and her father would not mind, as he also had a sweet tooth and had wanted to start nipping at it but stopped since he had better self control than his daughter.

Kat hung up the phone once she was done making plans with Amaya and began to get herself ready to go out. Not having had plans all morning she had not bothered to shower or looks presentable at all. She was still in her character onesie pajamas. Just as she was about to head into the bathroom to shower, the doorbell rang. Living in an apartment complex with overly caring neighbors, she was used to the doorbell ringing at least twice a day. Thinking it would be her elderly neighbor on the left , she rushed to open the door with excitement. Mrs. Orion loves to cook and would on occasion share with her family the delicious meals.

" Mrs. Orion-" she suddenly stopped. There stood in front of her a boy slightly older than her.

"Hi, I'm Collin." He introduced himself. "We just moved into the complex a couple days ago. I was wondering if you had any older brothers who wanted to come out and play?" He seems kind enough but that doesn't make her feel better. Kat points to the apartment above them and quickly shuts the door. Leaving Collin out there with a question on his face.

The complex her family lives in is one of the safest in the neighborhood. Kat has no problem being home alone, or at the neighbors, or just out in the neighborhood. No, that's not the issue at all. The issue is, the boy. Kat has seen him before and never would she have guessed she would end up seeing him again. After all these years. She wondered if he even remembered or knew who she was. Probably not, fate would not be so kind, or would it?
