3 Calamity descends

A feeble soul drifted through perilous spatial rifts and cracks.

A long, long while later, it finally emerged from the void and greedily sucked the heaven and earth energy of the atmosphere.

''Damn your ancestors, I can't have been brought to a dying star, could I?'' The soul grumbled in disappointment.

The density of heaven and earth energy in the air was thin, so his cultivation speed would be massively reduced. Not only that, but the overall competence of cultivators would be low too.

Cultivation was a race against time, so if one didn't make breakthroughs timely, when their vitality was brimming, they wouldn't have many chances in advanced age. Calamity worried, that even if he tried his best and became an overlord in this area, his competence would not be enough to tear the void and move to better star areas. He felt indignant to die as a mortal when he never ceased his pursuit of power.

''Heck with everything, I need to find the host first. My spirit is running out.'' Calamity accelerated his descent as he felt anxious. His soul power was running low. At this rate, his soul would scatter and he would ultimately die.

His soul consciousness scanned the area below.

''Shit, if I wasn't in such helter-skelter position I could have properly reincarnated in random mother's womb, but my origin power is gone. I can't court death and risk incomplete fusion.'' His mind was churning fast, thinking of ways to preserve his life.

''Sigh, I have to use that method in the end...hmm, there! That mortal's soul is about to scatter. Good, I will replace it. He's not that old too.'' Calamity didn't think much and rushed down from the clouds.

No barrier could prevent his movement in the soul form, so he easily passed through everything and using his secret method, occupied Leto's body.

His mind almost burst from the influx of information about the host's identity.

Calamity's heart sank as he determined the host's status. He was confident to restore any dying mortal's vitality with his remaining power, but his vessel appeared to have a troublesome disease.

He was so regretful, as he wanted to leave, but his soul partially integrated with the body, so he had no more chances. He could only grit his teeth and complete the fusion.

Chilly aura diffused from the still warm corpse of the heir of Lockhart family.

Invisible, yet queer fluctuations spread from his body.

The extinguished light of life in his eyes suddenly shone with peculiar, pale blue glint as he slowly rose from the water.

The water in the bath sizzled and evaporated into the mist.

The maid by his side passed out from the formidable wave of energy.

Calamity didn't have much time to think about anything. He hastily used last bits of his remaining power to seal the decaying worms. He didn't have the energy to refine them and reabsorb the vitality they stole from him anymore.

The host needed sufficient vitality for his residence and survival. These worms couldn't be ignored, even if dealing with them consumed much of his energy.

Soul and body fusion and sealing the decaying worms only took a few seconds, but at the price of his damaged soul. Now his spirit was even lower than normal human's.

This condition would negatively influence his perception, cultivation speed, and skill comprehension. Also, as he couldn't refine the worms and restore the stolen vitality, his power was less than seven years old's.

The sound of hurried steps and anxious voice calling him registered in his mind, but he didn't have the ability to respond, as after completing the chain of complicated processes, the wave of exhaustion assaulted him, as he passed out.
