19 The Devil's Lair (2)

They were all odds and ends but all with sharp gazes. This is what Daemon saw in an instant. Dangerous people.

As a military personnel he knew how these kind of people operate and ever since he was a kid he knew his father was hiding something from the family. The screams below the Stones Villa, the bloody clothes he was sometimes covered with, and the special visitors every now and then all seemed to be fishy to him. He could only remember that his father was a business tycoon who owned the topmost ranking empire within Angel City. And before he could grasp what his father's secret was, he was sent out to a military school by his mother.

Now that he was faced with what his father created as a group of outstanding men and women in the city, he knew how dangerous it is to argue with his father.

The Devils are not ordinary people. They were all trained and 'schooled' since they were young. All the experiences they have accumulated throughout those hard years can only be applied in this group as stated by their benefactors.

There are a total of 20 members of this group which is divided by sects in different district areas within and around Angel City. Each district have 3-4 devils assigned to monitor any underground activity that the law cannot control already. The devils extend more effort than necessary to trace and deal with mostly dangerous people whom the government cannot touch nor see sometimes. Their importance to the society now is irreplaceable. And whatever reasons Daemon's father had for creating this group is still unknown for most of the members. They only "do as they are told".

" There was something fishy about the operations on the Manning's. I have checked the account book once and found that the projects are mostly transferred to newly-established construction companies." Aldred Manson looked directly at Maia. He knew those vacant eyes glinting a few seconds for a few times every time they talk about the Mannings. He was sharp. He saw her emotions behind that facade. He knew her much more than the people in here.

Daemon glanced over Aldred and saw him staring more than the normal average person should. In an instant a light flicked in his eyes and a corner of his lips raised. He slowly placed one of his arms on Maia's chair and looked at her vacant face.

"The Mannings have been establishing these construction supplies chain stores all over the city in hope of supporting the company. But... " Maia's thoughts halted as she felt a hand slowly crawling on her chair. She smirked.

That one change in her expression stunned the other people in the room. She smirked. She actually smirked?!

"What the f.... "

"Did she just...?"

"Oh... my... heavens... "

Each with a different expression, each devil shocked and staring at the couple in the middle.

"Let's get back on the topic. Aldred can monitor the management in these companies. The rest need to give me reports on the incidents in the growing number of kidnappings in each district." Daemon suggested.

"Well, we also need a new face for Mrs. Stone. You can't simply face the public knowing your status is a bit sensitive, no?" Flair pointed out at Maia.

"..." Maia was speechless. She doesn't know how to deal with the position of Mrs. Stone as of the moment.

"For you two to actually go out in public and declare that you are the real Stones, you will be targeted relentlessly. We'll try to look for people with the same faces that both of you have." One burly and muscled man declared. A series of nods and sighs was heard around the room...

The drive back to the Stones Villa was quiet. It was nearing midnight and her whole body was tired. on the other end of the seat a sharp gaze was measuring her every angle.

"Have you stared enough?" she coldly spat out the words not even giving him a glance.

He smirked and found her words interesting. All her transformations of facial expressions puzzled him.

"Not yet, if you let me stay with you a little more, I just might."

"Shameless."

"Only with you dear wife."

"Leave me alone."

"Never."

"Stop it."

"Stop what?"

"Irritating me."

"I'm not trying."

Snap! She rapidly looked at the devil beside her and couldn't help but hiss at him. She lost it. That was the last straw.

He laughed wholeheartedly at what she did. His eyes brimmed with tears as he held his stomach and crouched while observing her. His eyes squinted as he continued laughing at her "pretty" emotion as of the moment.

Maia raised her hand and gave him a slap on the shoulder. The crisp sound startled even Farrah and Alex on the front. They both looked at the rearview mirror and found the couple having a fight.

Maia kept on giving him light slaps and Daemon was either dodging it or blocking using his free arm.

When he laughed out his last, he grabbed both of Maia's hands and placed them above her head. He leaned in on her and the playful smile on his lips grew deeper. Before she became fully aware of what was happening, Daemon already claimed her soft lips and lingered more above her face, his breathing ragged and his expression getting darker.
