13 Mother

I walked over to E'Lara at the customer left with her books. "You know, if I didnt know any better I'd say I've been traded in for a new model." I say, wrapping my arms around her waist from behind as she stands behind the register.

She reaches up and gently pats my cheek as she lays her head back against my chest. "Don't be silly, love. I haven't even broken you in yet. why would I trade you in?" she chuckles as she turns around.

"Ha, ha. Very funny but I was talking to him." I point to Lucifer as he looks up at us and meows, I pull E'Lara closer.

I kiss her deeply and press my body firmly against hers, pressing her against the countertop. She moans slightly against my lips wraps her hands around the back of my neck as she returns the kiss just as deeply. Lucifer jumps up onto the counter and meows as he paws at E'Lara. We part just barely and E'Lara scratches between his ears.

"Yeah, he definitely traded me in," I chuckle. "But I can't blame him. He's certainly got great taste in women." I wink at E'Lara as I reach over and scratch under his chin, he starts to purr.

"Just watch it, Luc. You try to take her from me and you just might find yourself sleeping outside." He simply yawns and hops down, he weaves between E'Lara's legs again then trots off up the stairs.

I cannot help but smile and shake my head at him as the chimes at the door jingle. I was not really paying attention to who it was because I do not really care, I can handle anyone who would think to do harm to E'Lara or her store. At least, that is until I hear who it is.

"Excuse me, will you help me find a book?" Her voice is one I can never forget.

I had not seen the woman because my back was to her but there is no denying who she is.

E'Lara steps out from behind the counter and away from my arms, "I'd be happy to. Do you know what you're looking for?" She obviously did not notice me become tense at the sound of the woman's voice.

When I hear them chatting and wandering the shelves, I slowly walk around to get a better look at the woman. Though, I know who it is, I have to make sure. I peek around the corner of a row and sure enough, there stood the woman I love more than anything with the worst woman ever. Her aura was still red and enraged. I could not see her face though.

Before I can stop myself I walk up to them, "Mother?" I still cannot believe this.

She does not look at me for a moment but by the way her aura flickers, she is surprised and seems a little frightened by the sound of my voice. Perhaps, it is the word itself, I am not sure.

"What are you doing here? Why are you here?" I know it's not because of me, we have not spoken since I left home.

"I'm here to find a book, this is a book store afterall." She says, it seems time has not changed her reaction to me since her tone is the same she used on me after I returned from the asylum.

She never truly believed I stopped seeing auras but I never told her I still saw them, I always tried to avoid her. She had a bad aura then and still has a sinful one now. I move to stand in front of E'Lara to protect her from my unpredictable mother. E'Lara slowly slides further behind me, gripping my shirt at my waist.I am unsure if it is because she can sense the tension between my mother and I or she is just scared of what may occur next. My mother keeps her gaze from me still.

"Don't play coy with me, I'm not a child for you to try and manipulate anymore. What are you doing here? I know you didn't come to see me, you didn't even know where I've been. We haven't spoken since the day I left and there are plenty of book stores to find your book. why'd you choose to cross two states to come to this one?" I feel my anger rise with every word.

"Well, I can see you're not a child anymore. I told you, I'm here for a book," She looks up at me finally and I can see why she chose not to, her eyes are pitch black, I stiffen slightly. "A very rare book not found in your typically store."

"You need to leave, you aren't welcome here."I back up and slowly move E'Lara to the end of the row.

"Run for the stairs, lock your door." I whisper to E'Lara not looking away from mother, though I am sure she can hear me.

E'Lara nods as she squeezes my sides, telling me to be careful. As she takes off, I move to block mothers path. There is no way she is getting anything from either of us.

"You need to leave, mother. There's nothing here for you." I take a defensive stance and spit vemon with my words, there is not a chance in hell she is winning this time.

She throws her head back laughing deep and hoarse. "So, it seems you still see the inhuman, my daughter. As for there being nothing here for me, you are mistaken. That toy of yours," she points a gangly finger towards the stairs, "is to die. She must not live another day." I am seeing red now, not just from her aura.

I clench my fists in anger. "You are the one who won't live another day if you think I'm going to let you touch even one hair on my girlfriend's head. There's no way you're leaving here alive." I brace myself for an attack.
