57 Part LVII.

She leads the way up a staircase with glossy silver railings, smooth as a baby's butt and cold against my palm.

"Here." she says and my heart stops immediately I see this gigantic room with long shelves filled with lots and lots of books. The entire four walls are covered with shelves and in the middle are standing shelves, as tall as an oak tree, all filled with books. So many books.

"Crystal?" Zara calls and I see they've already walked into the room so I hurry up to meet them as we stop in front of a shelf.

"This row," Jana says and gestures to the row on my eye level, "is filled with history books about this kingdom, how it all started, our rulers from the first to the last, our wars, festivals, rules, everything you need to know about this kingdom is arranged here in alphabetical order."

"Wow." I say as I look through the books with my eyes, my fingers already itching to pick one already and flip through pages. It's been so long since I found interest in something, it's been so long since something gave me hope.

"I'd suggest you start with this one," she puts out her palm and immediately, a book moves from the end of the row into her palm. Wow, this must be her own power. She can make books fly.

"Yes dear," she chuckles, "I can make books fly."

My face goes red as I realise I said my thoughts out loud. I need to get a hold of myself and stop being too eager and anxious.

"Here," she hands out the book to me and I take it. It's a big book with firm hard covers and the words "OUR KINGDOM TALE" inscribed in big block letters. "Read it and come back for more. Mind you, I don't play with my books. Return it." The way she says it with a threatening voice and scary eyes sends chills down my spine and I gulp down saliva.

"I'm sure you would." She says again and smiles lightly, immediately going back to her previous calm demeanor.

"We'll be going upstairs now Jana," Zara says, "don't miss me too much."

"You bet I wouldn't." Jana says and leaves the room.

Zara walks to a door beside the entrance where we came in from and presses a button by the side. The door slides open and that's when I realise it's an elevator. We walk in and she punches 11 on the elevator buttons and after a few seconds, we start moving upwards.

The ride is awkwardly quiet as she's obviously back to the Zara she was before we met Jana and I don't know what to say so I stay quiet, allowing my mind ponder on the today's events.

The hateful crowd, Jana, the library, Zara, Sean and the war. I will read as much as I can and find out everything I need to know, I'll find out the link between Sean and Dylan, I'll find out why he had to kill Dylan, why the Connors wanted to kill me, why I'm here and everything that's happened thus far. I will find out everything.

"We're here." Zara says and the door opens up to reveal a room with several chairs and tables, cushions of different types, shapes and sizes lay resting on the wall and there are a few people here whose heads turns towards our direction the moment we enter.

Most of them look like teenagers and they're even more good looking than the adults. We walk towards a door and as Zara opens it, a whisper of breeze blows against my face gently as we walk into the balcony. There's are two chairs and table with a kettle and two teacups on it. She takes one chair and I take second as we both sit in silence.

"What do you know about this kingdom?" Zara breaks the silence and I sigh in relief, the tension almost killing me inside.

"Well," I sigh, "I know how it came about. Your goddess was a human and she suffered so much at the hands of humans, finally killed her boss in his home library and stumbled on a book with a spell at the last page which she casted and got tremendous powers."

"Go on." She says with a straight face and voice and I feel a slight anger in my heart at the command but continue anyways. I don't want to get on her bad side.

"She created this kingdom, in between life and death, along with two babies whom she nurtured and gave powers until she died. They reproduced and continued life, expanded the kingdom and that's how it all came about."

"Fair enough." She says when I finish and I almost give her a stink eye for belittling my story. Fair enough? I was so proud of myself saying this story, happy that I remembered everything Sean told me and all she could say is 'fair enough'.

"What's the name of the book she read?" She asks and I try to rack my brain for the name.

"Hidden edges." I say at once, finally finding it deep inside my jam-packed brain.

"Alright," she says and folds her arms, "since you know all that, there'd be no need to burden myself repeating it but I could entertain a few questions."

My eyes lighten up at that and a smile plays on my lips. Finally, someone would answer my questions.

"The war, what's it about?" I ask and she sighs, probably already tired of me.

"I don't know if I'm supposed to tell you that Crystal," she says, "but you're the queen and human or not, you have authority over me. Before I say anything, I want you to know that you shouldn't know everything and the ones you do, be wise how you use them."

"But why shouldn't I know much?" I ask a little fed up of everyone telling me what I should and shouldn't know.

"Knowledge is dangerous." She says looking straight into the eyes. I guess she's right, but I've been through danger and I'm sure I can handle anything that comes my way.

"Now to answer your question." She continues, "the war is between us and other kingdoms."

"Other kingdoms?" I ask

"Yeah. Supernatural kingdoms, but none is as powerful as we are and that's the main feud. They want our powers."

"But the powers you all have is imbedded in you. How do they plan on getting them, and I mean, a war? That's absurd."

"It's absurd if you look at it that way." She responds, "You might also think they want to kill us all and eradicate our existence or something like that since they can't actually get our powers."

"Well, yeah that's another idea but it can't be possible if this kingdom is the most powerful."

"Its possible Crystal." She says and my eyes widen, "imagine one ant against a spider, that's absurd. But again, imagine hundred ants against one spider."

"Well," I start to say but keep quiet before I drool.

That's some scary shit to imagine. Would all the kingdoms really form an alliance against us?.

"Don't be scared," she chuckles lightly though not friendly, "at least not yet."

"What do you mean 'not yet.'"

"They haven't thought about that yet," she responds, "the war isn't to make us extinct by mass killing. They want the source of our power."

"The source of your power? The goddess?" I ask completely confused.

"The book. Hidden edges."
