56 Part LVI.

The Connors wanted me dead for a reason I know nothing of and now these people despise me for a reason I know nothing of. How satisfying. Yes Zara, I'll accept it but I won't accept the fact that they hate me, I'll accept the fact that I'm human and I'm different.

"Let's go." I say and she nods once, venturing into the city and I beside her. We pass by a grocery store and a boutique without anyone noticing and I pray silently that it stays this way until we get to the library.

These people can very much pass for humans with their looks and physical abilities. They walk, run, laugh, feel, reproduce like humans and every other thing, only their powers and longevity differentiating them.

They look so happy and carefree, laughing like they've got no problems and it brings back memories. My own happy memories that seem so distant it's almost as if life was always this hard for me. But no, I was happy. I had Dylan.

Soon, I notice the noise isn't as loud as before and I look to see people stopping and staring. A woman stops walking when her eyes meet mine and she tugs at a man whose hand is in hers. He stops as well and his confused look quickly turn to realisation when he sees my necklace then disgust when he sees my face.

Zara notices as she walks closer by me in a faster pace which I copy, my heart joining my feet in it's race.

"They won't harm you," she says lowly, still walking, "not physically."

Just as I'm about to ask what other way they could hurt me, a sudden laughter is heard amidst the whisperings of the watching crowd.

"She's even uglier than I expected!" The laughing voice says and a few others laugh as well.

"The black hair even made it worse!" Someone else says and the laughter gets a little louder.

"Get away from her Zara!" A voice yells from behind and they seem to be following but I don't look back as I increase my pace.

"She'll hurt you!" Another yells

"She's a monster!" Comes another still.

"A cruel demon!"

"You're not our queen!" A loud female voice says, hurting me even more as the words pierce my heart.

"You'll never be called queen!"

"You're disgusting!"

"Despicable!"

"Shameless whore!"

The names go on and on and the louder the voice, the deeper the cut, the more I understand what Zara meant. If I accept their hate completely and expect this wholly then, only then would it be easier to hear these inevitable hurtful words from these strange people.

"ENOUGH!!!" Zara's earth trembling yell stops me in my tracks as well as every other person and they all go silent. "She has been crowned Queen of our kingdom and you will respect her unless you have a death wish!".

She spoke so earnestly with so much power that my eyes moisten and tears threaten to fall. As usual someone else steps up for me and speaks for me, ready to fight and kill for me.

This routine is really tiring and makes me look like a worthless weak person. No, that's not what it looks like, that's what it is. I'm weak, frail, pathetic impotent, vulnerable. What other explanation do you have for all that's happened? I deserve all the hate they give.

"Let's go." Zara says and I wipe off a rogue tear quickly before any one notices as we walk faster ahead. We turn right at the end of a street and I see a really tall building with so many windows and balconies.

"The kingdom library." She explains and I nod, already figuring it out as we head towards it. The moment we enter, the glorious scent of old books mixed with dust and roses fill my nose soothing my tense nerves a little.

The shiny tiled floor reflects the very bright white bulb placed in the ceiling making the whole room sparkle. There's a desk in front with a medium sized shelf filled with lots of books and a beautiful terse lady, looking to be in her early fifties according to human age sits with a pair of reading glasses set atop the bridge of her nose but her eyes are fixed on mine.

"Miss Jana Maynard." Zara says with a smile I thought she didn't have and walks towards the counter while I tail behind her, a little intimidated by this woman's stare.

"You sure do know how to ruin my peaceful afternoon huh, Zara." She says finally looking away from me and smiles at Zara. They seem to have a fond relationship.

"Grumpy Jana" Zara laughs lightly, "I wonder if all the books you read teach you to stay away from people."

"They surely haven't taught me to be close to people." She responds and closes her book, puting it back into the shelf behind her and looks at me.

"The human Queen?" She asks.

"As a matter of fact yes," Zara answers, "she's the reason I'm here today."

"Oh gracious Lord she's beautiful," she scrutinizes me with her eyes, "with black hair. I never thought I'd see another black haired queen in my days."

"She's here to learn about the kingdom." Zara sighs, "if you would recommend some books please."

"You want to learn?" She asks me and I nod once.

"I'd love to."

"Alright then", she says and smiles subtly. "Follow me."
