81 Chapter 81

It's no surprise that Sean wouldn't cry for the demise of his despicable mother but I'm still confused. She speaks like it was a really heartless thing for Sean to do making me guess that they do not know the type of relationship he had with her.

"That's,.." I try to start a sentence but decide to keep shut as nothing reasonable comes to mind except more questions and I have to be careful not to spill Sean's secret.

"Yeah," she sighs, "that's why most people hate him but can't show it because their fear is greater."

"Hate him?" I ask annoyed, "why would you hate someone when you haven't even heard their side of the story? That's just cruel and unreasonable."

"Well," she says, "life's fucked."

She sips her tea again and I stay quiet, trying to free myself of every anger and concentrate on the questions to ask.

"Queen Crystal," I say and she looks at me with a horrified look and puts her index finger on her lips, signalling for me to shut up.

"You can't go about saying her name that way Crystal." She says in a harsh whisper and I roll my eyes.

"No one would figure out," I say, "my name's Crystal afterall, stop being paranoid."

She still gives me a hard look and I sigh loudly.

"Fine!" I say, "now back to my question. How did X die?" I ask referring to Queen Crystal as X and she rolls her eyes at me playfully. She's actually nicer than I had expected, probably because I offer hope to her dreams.

"Different stories my child," she answers and I frown a little, "some said she was ill, others said she was poisoned, a few said it was suicide while many said Sean did it."

"What?" I blurt out with a deep pain in my heart. He'd never do something of the sort, never. He didn't tell me how she died either and I didn't see a reason to ask because she is not dead! She's back.

"That's the popular belief," she says again, "and the most reasonable one if you ask me. He was always a weird child. Sean only came out to play very few times when his father was alive, Adrian and Miranda were his only friends if you consider people you come out to see once or twice in a month friends. On those few occasions, Adrian would bully him and Miranda would defend him but in the end, he'd beat up Adrian and that caused a really deep rift between those two till today. After his father died from an illness, it was almost as if he died as well but his mother always said he was fine whenever we asked. She never let us see him neither did she let his friends, she always told us he was still in grief of his father's death or he was ill or he was just asleep."

It really is true what Sean told me, she kept him locked up for years with little or no food nor water and constantly tortured him all the while telling the people that he was alright. She was a really heartless mother and a complete psychopath.

"But Sean's disappearance wasn't the only change," she continues, "his mother became even worse than she was. A sweetheart before marriage, a queen after marriage and I'd say insane after the death of her husband."

"Insane?" I ask, "what did she do?"

"That's a story for another day curious cat," she yawns, "this old lady isn't very used to having long conversations like this with people."

"But Jana," I say hastily, "we can't just stop here. I need to know more. There's a lot I need to ask in order to know what to do."

"And what do you intend to do?"

"Find out who or what I am." I answer without delay, "this thing with ice, what does it mean? A lot happened to me before I found myself here and I have to figure it all out as well. I have a feeling its all connected but I'm even more confused after hearing everything you just said, please Jana. Help me."

"A lot happened to you?" She cocks an eyebrow, "I'm interested in your story Crystal. I've always wanted to know what led a human here and why Sean brought you here and married you. What's so special about you?"

"I have no idea," I confess, "I have not the slightest idea why he chose me."

"Your story," she repeats, "it might give us some clue so spill."

There's a small voice in my head telling me not to tell her about my past and I really don't know if Sean has told them some different story from what really happened. There's a high chance he hasn't said anything since he barely talks to anyone but still, I can't trust her completely.

"Well," I clear my throat, "it's really long and complicated and I don't even know how to tell a story I myself do not understand. If you give me some more information, I might understand a few things then explain to you but right now, it's still fogged up in my head."

She looks at me with unsure eyes but finally give in and pat my hand on the table.

"Like I said previously," she stands up, "that's a story for another day. For now, you can equip yourself with a book till Zara comes for you."

"But Jana-"

"This book." She cuts in and holds out her palm and immediately, a book appears on it making my eyes go wide. I can never get used to these people who look exactly like humans having powers. It's fascinating and I really want to know more about it all.

"I'm sure you'd like it." She places the book on the table in front of me and I smile at it. It's not so big but has a lot of pages and the cover is really beautiful with a golden rose drawn standing beside another rose, a silver one but instead of sepals, they have fire burning below them and they are both rooted in a deep blue sea. Captivating burning roses with their roots in a deep sea, how artistic.

PSYCHICISM is written in a weird writing that looks more like a drawing and my smile widens even more. How did she know this is just what I wanted! She really does have book powers.

"This is - ", I say but keep quiet once I look up and see that she's gone already. I'll thank her before leaving. Now, it's time to learn even more.
