2 Free

Surrounded by the corpses of half-eaten soldiers and dead beasts, Cane observed the city's damage from above like a little boy over a few ants. "Do I feel regret?" Cane thought, looking over the city.

The sun was high in the sky and on any normal day, the children would be running around the city full of joy, merchants would be bargaining, and adventurers would be exploring, but now most children were hiding in closets or under their beds waiting for help, the merchants were briding people to help them, and adventurers were trying to fend off the monsters.

The chaos led to the castle where many adventurers were defending the castle gates with their lives. On the roof of the castle lie, Catherine being eaten by a large spider, eyes wet with tears, questioning the purpose of a hero.

They would soon run out of food and starve to death or be completely overrun by monsters before, either way, Cane didn't care because now he was free.

Cane was summoned to Etheron to protect the city and serve the king under the summoning contract, but he was able to bend the rules of the contract by hiding from the king until the king passed away from suicide.

Because the king of Etheron is no longer alive, Cane is now free from the summoning contract. With one last look at the city's ruin, he smiled and turned away.

His dark leather armor hid his skinny yet robust muscles and his blue cloak gave others a sense of mystery. His dark hair shoots out of his head like bamboo, but it sways in the wind like grass. With a sword and its decorated sheath, Cane looks identical to any noble if his background didn't betray him.

No longer looking back, Cane walked away from the city of Etheron with long strides movie star from an explosion. As he walked, he felt a great deal of regret, but it quickly washed away from his sense of justification.

"What should I do now?" Cane trodded in the direction of Serron, a larger city than Etheron with more trade and adventurers. "I am an adventurer" pledged Cane, head raised ready to take the world by storm.

On the way to the city, he ate various animals from wolves to bears; there was almost nothing he couldn't eat with his poison immunity. As a hero, Cane can grow stronger and faster compared to other people as such even though he had just started training.

Cane approached the city gates which were masked by flags and banners of Serron. When he reached the gate, he saw a guard sleeping with his weapon holding him up. The guard looked young, and seem to have just started the job.

Just as Cane was about to walk into the city, the guard woke up. "Huh, what?" The guard wiped off the drool rolling down his face. "You need to register and pay before you enter," The guard was now standing, but his slouched back showed his tiredness.

"How much?" asked Cane.

"Are you a traveling adventurer?" The guard was looking at the sword hanging from Cane's belt.

"Yes"

"It'd just be 20 copper" The guard was now looking at Cane's face. He wondered if Cane was secretly a girl with his feminine and peerless face.

"Are there any inns I could stay for the night? Cane handed the 20 copper he had stolen from the king's treasury.

"There are lots of places; just look anywhere and you'll see the signs" Waving Cane off, the guard took one last look around the area before taking another nap.

By the time Cane entered Serron, the moon was high in the sky, but it didn't stop the motion in the city, but instead brought new businesses which hid in the light of day. These shops included the selling of drugs, weapons, and prostitution.

Before he could fully absorb the colorful lights of the streets during the night, a woman walked towards him with long legs and arms stretched out towards him.

"Hey, Handsome wanna spend the night with me?" A dark-skinned woman, wearing just undergarments pressed her breasts against Cane.

"I need a place to sleep for the night" Cane tried to peel himself off the woman.

"You can sleep with me, only 13 copper" The woman continued to press her breasts against Cane.

"I don't have much money," Cane replied quickly.

The woman's arms loosened as quickly as Cane said he was broke, and she pointed down the street before leaving Cane alone. Cane watched as she grabbed another man, trying her luck again.

Cane soon saw an inn for 8 copper a night. Entering, he was greeted by adventurers partying their brains out. A drunk man held by two young girls walked past him, as he dodged them.

"Welcome! Are you here for food or stay?" The barkeeper gave him a quick introduction.

After a hearty meal for 4 copper, Cane settled down for the night.

While the guard continued to sleep, a dark figure flies past him. He looked around, seeing nothing, closed his eyes, mumbling "Damn wind,"
