1 Angel in the Wreckage

In a pitch black and unknown location, a man lies unconscious surrounded by dust and debris.

He groans as he slowly opens his eyes. 'Ugh… my head' he thinks to himself. He attempts to lift his arm and hisses in pain. 'My arm… fuck it hurts' he thinks as he lets his right arm rest and slowly sits up using his other arm.

'Oww… did anyone get the number of that truck' he thinks to himself, eliciting a chuckle. He looks around and struggles to say, "Why... the hell... is it so... dark? Is it night?" The man coughs to clear his throat and thinks, 'Damn… my throat is dryer than the Sahara.'

"Hello!" He yells out weakly, "Is there… *cough* anyone there!?"

He waits hopefully for someone to give him a response, but as the seconds tick on, his hope dwindles little by little. "Am I… *cough* just going to be stuck here?" he asks himself, before he stares blankly in front of himself. "Speaking of… where *cough* exactly is… here?"

"Ah who knows *cough* for all I know… this could all be a dream" He says and then thinks, 'But… if it isn't… then I might end up waiting here until I die.'

"Ugh! I can't believe them!" A voice is heard from somewhere up above. "They dare to ask me, the number two Hero, to play search and rescue! Goddammit!"

"Hello! Can you hear me!?" he yells out, while thinking, 'I hope they heard me.'

"I swear... I just heard something…" the voice says out loud.

He coughs a bit to clear his throat and then yells out, "Hello! I'm down here!"

A second later, crashing sounds are heard coming from somewhere up above. The man relaxes thinking, 'I was worried that I was gonna be left here to die.' After a few moments, light starts cutting through the debris illuminating the surroundings.

All around him lies the pieces of broken buildings, cars, etc. 'How the hell… did I end up under all of this?' the man thinks to himself.

"Hello" A female voice says. "Is anyone down there?"

"Yes!" he weakly yells out. "I can see some light coming from some holes right above me!"

"Stand clear!" she yells.

More light is being revealed as debris is ripped up into the sky and thrown to the side. After a few moments all of the debris, that had once trapped the man is gone. He slowly gets up off of the ground and carefully walks out into the light.

As he gets out, the first thing that graces his eyes is a beautiful, green-haired girl floating in the air. She is around five feet tall and quite petite. She possesses a pair of lovely green eyes and her green hair curls up at the ends. She dons a tight black dress that is cut to show off her beautiful legs and is surrounded by a light green glow.

"Are you an angel?" the man asks, without thinking.

Her face turns completely red and she yells, "What!? Are you some kind of idiot!?" before thinking, 'What the hell is wrong with this man?'

"No... I guess you aren't one, are you?" the man mutters.

"Why you! Little… piece of…" she says ferociously, but she doesn't get the chance to finish.

"You are as beautiful as an angel though" he states, while admiring the girl before him.

The girl flushes once more and stammers, "Well… I… er…" before turning around. 'He thinks I'm beautiful' she thinks to herself, before she turns around and slowly starts floating away.

The man takes an unsteady step forward and yells, "Wait! Who are you… miss angel!?"

The aforementioned 'angel' stops for a moment to yell, "I'm the S-ranked Hero Tornado!" before continuing to float away. "I'm not an angel…" she mutters as she floats away.

He stares blankly at her retreating figure until she is no longer in view. 'She was quite the cute girl' he thinks to himself. After snapping out of his daze, he starts taking in the sceneary around him. What he sees are broken buildings, smashed cars and trees thrown all over the place.

"Where the hell am I?" I ask out loud. 'Everything around me is messed up, what the hell?' he thinks. 'Well it's no use just standing around here, I should walk around and see if I can't find anyone else' he thinks and with that, he starts walking away.

After walking for some time he thinks, 'I wonder… where can I find someone to take a look at my right arm.'

"Hey! You there!" someone yells out to him, drawing his attention off to the right. He turns and sees a middle-aged man in a yellow vest and a hard hat waving to him.

He walks over to the older man and says, "Hi, is there somewhere that I can get this looked at?" as he gestures to his right arm.

The older man glances at his the young man's broken appearance and says, "Yeah… the evacuation shelter is right this way young man."

"Shelter?" the young man asks confused.

"Yeah… everyone is evacuating there, because there was a major incident that occurred" the older man stated matter of factly.

"Major Incident? What major incident caused of the destruction i've seen?" he asked, trying to remember the events before he woke up.

"Nobody knows for sure, but a black orb appeared in the middle of the city and started sucking up buildings, trees and even people…. How do you not know this?" the older man asks, as if he stated that the earth was round.

'Honestly… I don't know what to think other than… my head hurts' the young man thinks as he groans. He lifts his left hand up to cradle his head and says, "I'm not even sure where we are right now. The first thing that I remember is waking up in a dark place and then light was revealed to me by a green-haired angel."

"Angel?" the older man asks, looking at the younger man as if he grew a second head. "What kind of nonsense are you talking about?"

"It's… not… nonsense…" the younger man says. Suddenly liquid start trailing down his head and along his hands. He lowers his hand to examine it, revealing it to be covered in bright red blood. "She was… a really… beautiful angel" he says while swaying back and forth.

"Kid are you alright? You're bleeding..." the older man says, as he reaches out to steady the younger man. Upon touching the younger man's shoulder, the young man falls over onto the ground.

"Kid? Kid!?" the man yells. He crouches over the, now unconscious, young man to gently shake him wake, but doesn't succeed. 'Fuck... I have to call this in to get some help. I can't risk moving him, especially if he is in critical condition' he thinks to himself as he pulls out a phone and dials a number.

*Ring. Ring* After a few moments a female voice answers the phone, "Emergency Dispatch, how can I help you today?"

"Hello… my name is Jerry Tomson and I have a injured male survivor here with me. He needs urgent medical attention" He says.

"Alright… we will send someone to your location as soon as possible. In the meantime, is the survivor conscious?"

"He was… but not anymore. It looks like he injured his head, so I didn't want to move him" He says.

"Good, if you moved him the wrong way he could've ended up worse off. Sit tight and wait for someone to come by."

"Okay, thank you very much" he says and hangs up the phone. "Just hang in there kid."

In another part of the ruined city, a green-haired girl is floating in the air surrounded by a green glow. Her face is scrunched up and her lips are quirked into a frown. The reason behind her annoyance is a faint *ring* coming from the cellphone in her hand.

"Gheeze! What do the rescue workers need now?" she complains. "I've been running around all day playing crane for you guys and do they even give me a break? No!"

She sighs and thinks, 'I guess… I should probably answer that… they really are hopeless without me.'

She answers the phone and yells, "What do you want now!?"

"Is it a bad time Tornado" a male voice asks over the phone.

"No!" Tornado screams into the phone.

"Alright… we do appreciate everything you have done today Tornado" he assures.

Tornado groans and the yells, "Just spill it already! I don't have all day!"

"Okay, okay… we have a young man here suffering from some heavy injuries and he needs urgent medical attention. You are the best option we have for getting him to a hospital fast enough" he explains.

"Fine, but after this… I'm done for today. I've been cleaning up this mess for the last eight hours!" Tornado wines.

"Yet again… thank you Tornado."

"Enough… just send me the coordinates" Tornado snaps.

"Alright… I'm sending you the location… now. Hurry!" he pleads.

"Don't tell me what to do!" she screams into the phone, before ending the call.

'The nerve of these people! I mean first I'm a crane and now... I'm a ambulance? Just because this is a disaster zone, doesn't mean that they get to order me around!' she angrily thinks to herself.

*Beep*

She looks at her phone and see a message containing the location of the patient. 'Huh…' Tornado thinks to herself 'Isn't that… not too far from where I uncovered that man…'

She blushes as she remembers the first words that she heard him say. "Hmpfh! If he's the patient, then maybe.. He should've said something earlier.." she grumbles as she starts flying to the coordinates. "Instead… he has the nerve to go and play with a girl's feelings…"

'I mean… he couldn't have meant that… could he?' she thinks, doubting the words of the man she met.

After several minutes of flying, Tornado arrives at the coordinates. Looking around, she finds one of the rescue workers waving up to the air towards her. After spotting him, Tornado floats down and sees the patient on the ground next to the man. 'Hey… isn't that… yeah, it is. That's the guy, who I dug out of the ground earlier. What the hell?' she thinks to herself.

As she gets a dozen feet away, the rescue worker yells, "Tornado! It's good to see you! I didn't think they would send you to help!"

"They didn't send me anywhere!" Tornado snaps back at him as she floats closer to the two of them.

"Sorry… anyway… this is the kid. Can you make sure to be careful when you are moving him?" he asks, but Tornado barely pays attention to him as she stares at the unconscious man on the ground.

"Miss Tornado!?" the rescue worker yells, trying to gain her attention.

"Right… well, I will get him to one of the association's hospitals" she says, while nodding. The injured man is quickly wrapped in a light green glow and slowly lifted by an invisible force up into the air.

"Thank you, travel safe" the rescue worker says as Tornado floats away with the patient in tow.

As Tornado flys through the air, she takes a looks behind her at the injured man. He has blood running down the side of his head, a heavily bruised right arm and led, tattered clothes and various other bruises covering his body.

'He looks… really bad. Why didn't I notice when I saw him before? Maybe it was because he distracted me…' she thinks to herself, but then shakes her head and mutters, "I shouldn't be too hard on you."

After a minutes of accelerated flying, the two of them arrive at an association hospital. Tornado floats down to the ER's door and it's suddenly thrown open by an invisible force. She floats in with the injured man in tow and yells, "Get a doctor over here, right now!"

A middle-aged woman walks over to her and says, "I'm a doctor… what seems to be the problem Tornado?"

Tornado points to her tag-along and says, "He needs medical attention. He was originally found in the ruined city, buried under the rubble, but he apparently spent some time walking around the wreckage before collapsing."

The doctor walks around Tornado to examine the injured man for a few moments. "Nurse! Get a gurney over here and we need operating room three ready, now!" she yells out orders to the nurses.

A couple of nurses run down one of the hallways, while a few bring a gurney over. The nurses position the gurney right below the young man and one of them says, "Miss Tornado… you can gently set him down now."

Tornado nods and the young man gently descends onto the gurney. Upon him contacting the gurney, the light surrounding him slowly fades into nothingness. The nurses quickly secure him to the gurney and rush him down the hallway, where the other nurses went. As they leave, Tornado follows their retreating figures with her eyes.

This action did not go unnoticed by the doctor, who smirked before saying, "If you'd like… you can come with Tornado. Not inside of course, but you can wait outside the operating room. If not... then I'll make sure that he knows who saved him."

Tornado nods and the two of them quickly walk after the nurses. After arriving at the operating, the doctor says, "You can take a seat there and if that sign up above the door is lit, then we are still operating. Just be patient… this will take quite some time." After quickly explaining, the doctor rushes in the operating room.

Tornado plops down on the bench outside the room and thinks, 'I hope you can pull through this… I want to talk to you some more.'

Several hours later, a more than slightly drowsy Tornado is dozing off, while laying across the bench. The sign above the doors finally dims and the doors to the operating room open. Tornado's eyes snap open from hearing the door open and she gets up to ask, "How is he? Will he make it?"

The doctor after just walking out, is startled by the sudden question and the sheer enthusiasm in Tornado's tone. She smiles after taking a few moments to regain her composure and says, "He will be just fine… don't worry Tornado."

"Why would I worry about that guy?" Tornado says as she blushes, before turning her head to the side.

"Right… right…" the doctor placates.

Tornado breathes out a sigh of relief and complains, "He better be grateful that I'm taking time out of my busy schedule like this."

One of the nurses nearby hear this and giggle before saying, "Oh… I'm sure that your boyfriend will appreciate that his lovely girlfriend is staying by his side during this difficult time."

"He… is not… my boyfriend!" Tornado yells as she blushes and storms off.

The nurses and doctor laugh a bit at the embarrassed Tornado, that no one else probably gets to see. "That may be true for now, but she might like you… even if she isn't even aware of it herself" the doctor says to her unconscious patient. "If that's the case… then you are one lucky young man." The doctor chuckles as she walks off to get her new patient sorted out.
