1 A Vault? (Chapter 1)

I place my hand on his back, "you're gonna do well honey" he glances at me though the mirror and smiles. I exit the room letting Nate have a moment of privacy.

Seeing codsworth working as usual. I smell the warm aroma of the coffee brewing, drip by drip. "Has the morning paper been delivered yet?" I ask codsworth "it most certainly has mum! It's on the island" guiding myself to the island I pick up the Newspaper "A coupon for formula that might come in handy"

Speaking of baby food I put the paper down and go check on Shaun. I open the sliding door to see my baby laying in the crib. I walk over to him and watch him make little noises, suddenly a disgusting smell lingered in the air.

I put my hand over my nose to block the smell and yelled for Codsworth. He comes floating briskly in and askes me what I needed "I need you to change Shaun, I'm absolutely certain he needs a diaper change" without hesitation Codsworth got to work.

I went to check on Nate but he wasn't in the bathroom. The doorbell rung, briskly I walk to answer the door. Ugh it's only a goddamn solicitor, "Sorry, but I don't plan on buying the shit you're selling" the man in the yellow coat coughs uncomfortably.

"I don't plan on selling anything, I've come because you've got selected for your family's service in the military to join your local vault"

he quickly adds "it's only a bit of paperwork and then you're good to go" he finishes and smiles

"A vault? For what?" I ask He looks panicked but calmly replies "Total atomic annihilation" he's gotta be kidding "wait you're serious?" I raise my eyebrows at him which he looks awkwardly away.

"Oh come on Hun it's not a lot of paperwork" Nate says sitting on the couch next to the door. Giving in I take the clipboard and sign my name. "See that wasn't hard?" Nate jokingly adds. Glancing at Nate I make a smug face as he turned on the News channel.

God he loves that News channel more than he loves me. Suddenly I hear my baby crying and codsworth calling my name. "Mum I can't get baby Shaun to calm down. Maybe he needs maternal comfort" walking into Shaun's room I see him laying down crying.

Nate walks in and leans against the door frame "I fixed his mobile yesterday, try and turn that on" he says while looking a Shaun. Pressing the button the mobile lights up and spins, Shaun instantly quites down staring at the light up moving mobile.

Nate walks twords me and puts his arm over my shoulders. "It's crazy how time flys, huh?" I say while laying my head on his shoulder.
