1 1. Adela, the lost.

–Sob! Sob!

How could this happen?

Why is this happening to us?

It's too unfair…

A girl was crying while hiding under a rubble of what she used to call home. She had long white hair elongated to her waist paired with snake-like amber eyes that could charm any man. Her name is Adela.

Just a moment before, she was still living a peaceful life with his mother and the refugees and now,… all of the people she journeyed with were killed brutally without any mercy. She was having a hard time not to let out a cry that could attract those so called 'monsters' of the rift but even that was very difficult due to the chain of events she just experienced. To be frank, it was too much for her to handle and her mind was collapsing rapidly.

Out of the blue, a rift opened and those monsters began to crawl out of the hell holes as if they had already planned for this. Those with craggy teeth protruded out of their body and mutated limbs abominations started killing people as soon as they saw them. To them, humans were nothing but an entertainment for them. They used their sharp claws and fangs to rip and tear out one's flesh as though they were having its feast.

Utterly a madness if one could describe that without going insane.

Piles of corpses accumulated as time passed and screams of those helpless people were resounded everywhere. Such a horrendous scene was displayed in front of her eyes without her having any knowledge about it. When will this bloody night end?

Everyone she knew and loved were killed in front of her eyes. Her friends that she grew up with, her acquaintances, even her family had been slaughtered.

What did they do?... They did nothing but why do they have to face such an end?

First, they were ripped off the right to live within the city and now they were nothing but food to those beasts.

She didn't know or rather, she couldn't accept this harsh reality.

The more Adela thought of this, the more pain she felt. Suddenly, she felt queasy whenever she recalled that scene. After all, she is just a little girl that turned sixteen this year, how could she endure such?

All hopes were lost, the light had faded.

She could feel that something in her had died, as if it had been missing. Her state of mind was on the verge of shattering.

The beasts after feasting on the refugees had shrieked in triumph. Their repugnant smell of blood and howls of triumph of those beasts made her even more despair. However, she didn't feel hatred for them but for herself, her incompetence made her survive, yet it also made her hate herself more than ever.

"Fuck!" She cried out quietly, feeling incompetent as she recalled the event. She couldn't do anything but cry silently as the tears ran down her cheek. Had she had any power, she would've been able to do something but after all, she was just a scared child who didn't dare to take action.

Adela hugging her knees, trying to be as small as she could as if that was the only thing that she could think of to cope with this dreadful nightmare.

The smell of blood lingering in the air was too heavy that made her feel nauseous and because of this, those horrified beasts couldn't notice her scent. Shivering in fear and soon, the hunger caught up to her. She bit down her lower lips as she felt somewhat disgusting of her own. What right does she have to demand?

After eating and feasting to their fullest, the horde scattered everywhere to find more things to feast on like the hunger that never satiated, leaving the wreckage behind. Just in a moment, there was nothing left. In the dead of the night, the horde was gone.

Adela, still hiding under her cover, was trembling nonstop. As a desperate person who was on the edge of their mind, they tended to hold on to the line of belief. They needed to believe in something greater than themselves. Adela was no different.

She knitted her hands and clenched as hard as she could, she mumbled feebly.

"Please, if Gods do exist in this world, I beg thee to grant us our salvation."

She repeated that line for… who knows how many times as it was the last hope for her in this dim night.

But alas, nothing happened.

Like a ship sunken into the ocean, she was drowned by all the self-blame and despair. The more time passed, the more anguish she felt. There was no escape from this suffocating ocean for her.

The light in her eyes faded and so did her mind. Adela now was nothing but a puppet who got its strings cut. She became slowly but surely callous by all this torment and agony, slowly devoid of emotions.

She looked at the night sky above filled with the lights from the stars, making it completely different from the madness below. It felt like the night was soothing her in its gentle hand, guiding her toward them.

The more she looked at the starry night above, the more she felt like the cosmos was talking to her. It was rather strange at that point as she laughed sadly as if she knew that she was losing her mind.

But that didn't matter to her now, did it? Her death was inevitable, it just depended on how she chose to die. Either by the hand of beasts that had slaughtered the entire refuge group and met with her family or via the hunger that had been haunting her for quite some time.

She knew that these thoughts were like a scoff toward their efforts to keep her alive. Adela couldn't comprehend why they chose to save her regardless. Wouldn't it be better to run on their own and abandon her?

She just couldn't understand… why people would choose to save the younger ones first, they would have lived if they didn't throw themselves in the maw of this hell hole.

However, that did not mean she didn't appreciate their effort to save her. Now that she thought of this, wasn't she nothing but a coward? To run with your own life, to live up with their choice?

But in the end, she was just a girl without power to defend herself, how could she manage to get out of here alive?

The more she immersed herself further in these thoughts, the more disgusting she felt toward her own actions.

Unknown amount of time had passed…

She could hardly tell how much time had passed but nevertheless, it did not seem to matter to her anymore.

She felt a surge of exhaustion after all of that crying and sobbing as she soon fell asleep before she realized.

Suddenly, a door appeared out of thin air. It was a simple door like those of a normal house. It opened and in it was a shadow silhouette standing.

"Huh? A survivor?"
