2 Her Return

6 years later –

Inside a luxurious and expensive car.

"Grandma, what are you worrying about? I'll be safe here. Didn't you send me a bodyguard? I'll be fine."

"Oh, darling. Don't do anything dangerous, okay? Or else you're coming back to America."

"Grandma, I know my limits. I'll be careful, okay? You should rest up, it's late over there."

"Take care of yourself, darling. I'll miss you deeply."

"I'll miss you too."

Beep –

The phone call ended.

The girl commanded from the back seat. "Drop me off at Allan's Hotel. I'll call you when I need you."

"Miss, the Madame said to stay in contact with you at all times. I can't just leave you."

"I'll give you my number. That's enough, isn't it?"

"Miss, that's…"

"This is my mother country. I won't get lost." Chloe said firmly.

"Yes, Miss."

Chloe went to the reception and received the key for her room. She went up the elevator and arrived at the 37th floor. She opened the door to her room, revealing tacky red wallpaper. She frowned. Never mind. I won't be staying here for long.

After setting down, she immediately opened her laptop and clicked open a file. A list of people appeared on the screen – they were all her father's subordinates. She closely examined the screen, memorising each and every detail relating to the people. Their age, origin, preferences, all the information she could get her hands on.

One of these people is the traitor. I will definitely find out who they are. When I do, I will make sure they face an ending that they wouldn't even dream of. I'll make them pay.

Chloe tightly clenched her fists and bit her lips. She was going to avenge her parents with her own hands.

Karl Schliff: 33 years old, loyal subordinate of her father and married with two children.

Rhyce Treasure: 28 years old, loyal subordinate of her father and wife is deceased.

Dylan Taylor: 25 years old, her father's youngest subordinate and single.

She would start with these three – the subordinates that her father trusted. She knew that with so many bodyguards protecting her father twenty-four seven, there would be no way for the perpetrator to harm him without inside information.

Karl… she mused. That man used to look after her when she was small, and she was closer with him compared to the other two. She knew that he was also her father's most trusted subordinate. Although she hoped he didn't play a part in her father's death, she couldn't rule out that possibility. Looks like I'll have do more investigation, she thought.

She picked up her phone and punched in a number.

The phone rang 5 times until a man finally picked up the phone. "Who are you? How do you know my number?"

"It's Chloe."

"It's you?

"I want you to investigate some people for me."

"You know that I'm expensive, right?"

"I don't lack money."

He paused. "Alright. When do you want it?"

"In three days."

A sleek, black car drove to the driveway of a large mansion and out stepped a young lady in her late teens. She walked slowly around the familiar garden and went up to the front door.

Ding dong!

Chloe rang the doorbell and waited patiently. There was the sound of someone running as a small shadow emerged from the glass door.

"Who is it?" A boy's voice sounded.

"It's Chloe."

Bang! The door flung open and the boy ran into Chloe, nearly pushing her down with force.

"Chloe! You're back!" He grinned happily.

"Yes, I'm back." She said to him with a doting smile and pat his head.

The boy pouted. "I'm not a child anymore."

Chloe chuckled. "Yes, yes. You're not a child."

From behind the boy, a tall figure appeared. When they saw Chloe, they stopped in their tracks. Stunned, their mouth dropped open.

After recovering their senses, the woman smiled brightly at Chloe. "You're back? You should've called me. I would've called someone to pick you up."

Chloe shook her head while smiling. "No need to trouble Auntie. I'm old enough to travel by myself."

"Why did you decide to return, Chloe?"

Chloe's eyes turned cold. "For my father's funeral, of course." Were they not planning on telling me about my father's death? If I hadn't received the news through my grandma, I'd be completely fooled.

"You knew about that? We didn't want to tell you because we thought you would be hurt." The woman said caringly.

Chloe continued to smile, except the smile didn't reach her eyes.

"It's unfortunate but the whole family is out at the moment and your grandfather is in a meeting with Secretary Pan. If we knew you were coming, we would've given you a welcome party."

This woman's acting is getting better and better. If it were anyone else, they'd think she was a genuine kind soul.

"I'm a bit tired, can I retire to my bedroom?"

"That's… I'm afraid we renovated the house last year and now that's Lily's bedroom. I'm sure you wouldn't mind, right?"

"This little matter… it's not important that Auntie didn't think to ask me about it. It's just…"

"Chloe, child, I didn't realise you still had your luggage with you. I'll get someone to help you with it."

As if you just noticed that, Chloe scoffed in her mind.

"It's okay, I can take it myself."

"I'll send a maid over to help you with your things. Please, don't reject my good intentions."

A maid? More like a spy.

"Okay, Auntie. I know you only want the best for me." Chloe smiled sweetly.

All of a sudden, the voices of two men emerged from the hallway.

"We have to make some preparations. The police are on our tail."

"I'd suggest ceasing our activities. It'd be in our best interests to lay low for the time being."

"Yes. We can't let them grab onto any evidence."

Just as the two men finished up their conversation, they noticed their guest. Both men were dumbstruck when they saw Chloe.
