Four obnoxiously cheery Christmas movies later, Justin faked a call from Rachelle so he could slip away to his office and code for a while. He was glad Emily enjoyed herself but did he really have to sit through the entire thing? They were cheesy romances too!

While she was still in the home theater he dared to check in on the pregnant cats. One of them looked kind of like a Siamese—he only knew this because Emily had told him about different cat breeds—and the other was a calico.

They were friendly like the shelter worker had said and seemed happy to see him. He fed them the type of treats he usually gave Cookie and they purred and rubbed up against him in appreciation.
