Shadow Traveling

Chapter 4

Title: Shadow Traveling

---

-Reiko POV-

And like that, another four years passed.

In my eyes, I could see the reflection of a young girl who hadn't changed much over the years.

She had pale-white skin that was delicate and soft to the touch. Her snow-white hair, which used to stop at her shoulders, now reached halfway down her back. The young girl had two beautifully terrifying red eyes, making others question whether she was a human or a little demon in disguise.

"It wouldn't be a lie to say I am, hehe~" A small giggle escaped my mouth.

If someone had heard that, they would've surely felt chills up their spine.

I didn't grow much taller over these years, just barely reaching the height of 126cm. But, that doesn't matter because something much better did grow.

My power!

With a snap of my fingers, the scene in front of me changed.

No, I didn't have teleportation... not yet at least.

Albeit similar to teleportation, this was something known as Shadow Traveling.

As the name suggests, this technique was used for traveling through shadows. The technique was useful, but it did come with drawbacks.

Shadow Traveling wasn't something everyone could use. Hell, even the ones with the dark element could hardly use it.

Not only did the technique cost lots of mana to use, but the cost could be even greater depending on how far the user travels. The further the distance, the more mana was required. If someone wanted to travel like this a large mana pool would be needed.

"It's not like those drawbacks could affect me though. My mana is practically infinite. Such a simple technique wouldn't take up much of anything." My lips curled up into a smirk.

I mean, who wouldn't be smug about that? I could travel thousands of miles and still be full of energy! My mana pool was unmatched!

Moving on from my self-praise, the place I had gone to was a café. Now, what business would a little girl like me have in a café? None! I had business with the place underneath it.

'I can't say this is the most ideal place to have a hideout, but it could be worse.'

I looked up at the shining moon.

'I'd better get going. Wouldn't want to miss the meeting...not that I was invited, but who cares about the small details.'

With another snap, the scene in front of me changed again.

I stood motionlessly in the corner of a room, silently waiting for the meeting to start.

Within a few minutes, the doors opened with the bodies of two I knew all too well entering.

'It's still quite shocking to find out my dear siblings run an assassination organization. Not that I have a problem with it, no, I'm quite happy. I wonder though...will they even allow me to join?'

~~~
[Sometime Later..]
Boring.
That's the only word I could use to describe this overly long meeting. It was a complete waste of time! I could've just come afterward if I knew it'd be like this.
'Ugh, whatever. I should focus on what I came here for.'
Once the room was cleared of everyone but my siblings, I stepped out of the dark corner, making my presence known.
There wasn't even a second before I saw two daggers flying my way. I skillfully caught them and began playing with the daggers in my hand.
"I would congratulate you for having such good aim but...you almost cut my pretty face! I could never forgive you if that happened." I sounded like a child who'd just been betrayed.
"Reiko?!" Renji shouted. "Why-no, how did you get here?"
"Secret. I can't tell you, sorry."
Renji's expression changed from concern to anger after saying that. Even his tone was much harsher tone than before.
"Secret? Do you think it's the time to tell jokes?! I want an explanation of how and why you're here, now!"
"As I said, it's a secret." Did he think I'd tell him just because he raised his voice? Ha!
"Rei-!" Aria cut him off. " Seeing as you're in our base, does it have to do with the organization? Little Reiko tell me, what did you come here for?"
"Yes. I'll be frank, I want to join you guys."
"No! Absolutely not! Not only are you a child, but you're also my little sister! What would I do if you got injured, or worse killed?!"
Renji was furious. Too bad, I was going to join one way or another.
"I can guarantee that I won't be injured or killed. Did you ever think about how I got here? You didn't even notice my presence before I made it known."
"You have a point, but Renji is right. This job isn't for kids, much less a little girl such as yourself. But, if you tell me how you got here I'll consider."
"Shadow Traveling. I won't go into detail but it allows me to go from place to place using shadows."
Aria raised a brow at my words. It's no wonder, the technique was useful, even more for people who work a job like this. It'll be impossible for them to turn me down.
"That clears up how you got here, but it doesn't explain how hid your presence from us. Not even the best assassins escaped our eyes, how come you were able to?"
"Secret." I said casually.
"Hah.." She let out a sigh. "Whatever. I said I'll consider letting you join, but you'll have to go through a few tests before that happens. Passing these tests doesn't mean you'll be able to join, it's only to see if you're qualified."
"Makes sense." I looked over at Renji who'd been ignored by us during this conversation.
'Jeez, if looks could kill I'd be dead by now.'
"Aria! She's a little girl and our sister at that!" He shouted.
"Renji can you use your brain for a second? Despite being our sister, she could've easily attacked us if she wanted to! Do you think any simple person could've skillfully hidden from us for so long? If turning her down means losing out on a great opportunity, then I won't agree with your words."
He had no choice but to accept what she said.
"Ugh, okay... I still don't like the idea of her joining us but you're right. Just remember this Reiko, if anything happens I won't let you off so easy."
"I'm much stronger than you think. I won't get injured so easily." I said confidently.
Renji shook his head at my words. "You should go back to the manor now. I'm sure someone will start to worry if you're gone for too long."
I nodded my head at his words before disappearing from their sight.
I was back to the same spot I'd left from.
Once again, I looked at the girl in my reflection and spoke. "I can't wait for this 'test' of theirs. I wonder what it'll be.."
A/N: I don't plan to focus on the original world too much, so there will be more timeskips in the future. It won't be long before the mc is traveling to different verses.
