What did you just call her?

"Pass me the medium size cup would you?" Lola ask me and I pass her a disposable medium size coffee cup.

"Thanks."

"Anytime." I say as I turn to answer my next customer.

"Hey, what can I get you?" I ask the dark haired guy standing in front of me.

He says nothing but just stares at me.

"Um... You want an opinion?" I ask unsure again. He shakes his head like he's clearing it.

"Nothing. I'm sorry. I'd like a cup of cappuccino."

"With extra cream?" I ask as I enter his order into the machine.

"Yes."

"Okay that will be $3.26" I print his receipt and I make his coffee.

"Thank you."

"Thanks for drinking from us." I smile and he nods.

"Can I get your number?" He asks suddenly and I frown.

What the fudge?

"No."

"Why?"

Excuse me? Do I need a reason as to why I don't want to share my number?

"Excuse me?" I say shocked.

"Why don't you wanna gimme your number. It's just a number there's nothing to it." He snaps.

Okay, someone got nerves.

"Like you said, it's just a number so get the fuck off." I replied

"You bitch!" He suddenly snaps. "It's girls like you who go sleeping around. It's girls like you who have boyfriends but still fucking cheat! You all milk guys dry and you're still proud. You are a fucking whore!" He shouts and the whole cafe goes silent.

Okay that hit a nerve.

It hit a nerve because being called a whore reminded me of something in the past.

Something I tried really hard to forget.

I feel my chest tightening and I try not to cry.

"What did you just call her?" A thick voice says behind the guy and he turns.

I see Matt behind the guy, shooting deadly daggers his way. His blue eyes were suddenly dark and I could feel the air suddenly change.

It's about to go down for sure.

"What's it to you?" The guy asks back.

"I said," He takes a step forward. "What did you just call her?" His voice sounded very threatening.

"A whore. A fucking wh-" Matt doesn't wait for him to finish his sentence before he punches him and the guy falls to the ground.

"You or no fucking body gets to call her that!" He points at me. He then walks towards me.

Oh my.

"Who are you to tell me that huh?" The guy who's groaning on the floor speaks up which makes Matt stop.

Wrong move dude.

"Well," He turns to the guy. "I'm the person your father wouldn't dare to fuck with." He starts to walk but stops again.

Butterflies.

Why did my heart just skip several beats just hearing that?

"Oh and one more thing," Matt bends to the guy's level and whispers something to him.

It looks threatening because the guy's eyes widen and he nods briskly. Matt then pats his shoulder and stands up.

"Good talk." He then turns to me and gives me a small smile.

"Hey, you okay?" His whole demeanor changes to a soft one and I manage to smile.

"Yeah." I nod.

"You sure?" He looks me in the eye but I couldn't take the intensity so I look away and nod.

"Yes."

"You aren't lying are you?" He eyes me in a way that makes me know he doesn't believe me.

Before I could answer him, Lola rushes to my side and gives me a hug.

"Ohmygod Alex are you okay?" I nod. "Such a crazy psycho." She looks at Matt and frowns. "Is this-" She begins and my eyes widen.

"Okay Lola, I'm fine. Back to work, you have customers waiting." I push her away and she just smiles.

"So black coffee?" I ask Matt and he nods.

"With no cream?" I ask again.

"Actually," He begins and I look at him.

"I didn't come for coffee."

What?

"What did you come for then?"

"My legs keep bringing me here and I don't know why." I tilt my head to the left a little to study him.

"Keeps bringing you here?" I ask confused.

"You know what? Just add the coffee" He brings out his wallet to pay.

I shake my head and make his coffee. I hand it to him and smile but he doesn't look me in the eye. He just takes his coffee and walks out without another word.

Okay what was that about?

"Isn't that Matt Harper?" Lola lightly bumps into me and I nod.

"He is."

"Wonder why he keeps coming to your counter to order coffee when there are three more left free?"

I turn to see there are truly three more counters without customers.

"Maybe because he coincidentally comes to mine."

"Every single time? Even when you have a customer you are attending to?" She raises an eyebrow

"Really?" I ask and she nods.

"The other day, you were serving a customer, he waited behind even though Mateo, Luke and I were free." She crosses her arm.

"It's probably nothing. I'm sure it's just because he knows me. That's all, I'm sure." I shrug and she sighs.

"If you say so. Just know, his black coffee might need some creaming very soon." With that, she walks away.

What the hell does she mean?!
