18 Her Eyes

Award Function wasn't the only function that was planned for the night but a grand dinner was also prepared by the sponsors.

Businessman award of the year was the most awaited and prestigious award of the night, that was bagged by Lily Jones.

There were many who were happy for Lily and thought she was deserving of the award while there were many who were envious of her. But even though they were envious they still had to maintain a smiling face and congratulate her..

While people were busy congratulating Lily and trying to set up connections with her, there were still some people who stood rooted to ground, and those were the members of the Jones family.

Eleanor Jones was furious from the moment she saw Lily and Flora, and what made her extremely mad was that she was the Lily Jones.

'How can it be her?'

'How can she achieve so much by her own?'

She gritted her teeth and said, "How could she win this award? We all know she is not capable of doing such things, I'm sure she took credit of someone else's work from her company!"

"Who knows grandmother what she did to get this award?", said Sophia. Her words were so ambiguous but she didn't care.

"If she can do, why can't you? You are much more talented than her my child". Eleanor demeaned Lily and praised Sophia in one sentence only. She stroked Sophia's face so lovingly.

"I won't ever disappoint you grandma", Sophia replied with her sweetest smile.

While they were busy in this grandmother granddaughter moment, this scene didn't go unnoticed by a pair of eyes. Lily saw them and for a moment a sense of longing shown in her eyes, but that remained for just a few seconds and she masked her emotions with her stoic expression.

While Eleanor and Sophia were openly talking about lily, Edmund Jones were feeling restless and he said, "Shut up! Look around and pay attention to your words". He was angry on his wife for belittling lily that too when they were surrounded by so many people.

But his tone didn't settle with Eleanor and she wanted to retort but even before that Edmund Jones said, "Or do you plan to tell everyone about your relationship with lily?".

As soon as the words left Edmund's mouth, Eleanor's back stiffened. No, not at all, she can't afford that. So, even though she was angry at her husband, she chose to stay quite.

He was right, there were too many people around them.

Even though Edmund didn't like Lily's presence there, he still had to congratulate her to show his support for the younger generation. He still had to maintain his perfect image. So, he took slow steps towards lily.

Lily saw that even without lifting her head, she knew them way too well. So, she excused herself and walked towards Elder Jones. Elder Jones felt a sense of satisfaction when he saw her walking towards him but as soon as she reached him she walked past him leaving him bewildered.

She went directly to Elder Green, who was waiting for her for quite some time.

"I'm proud of you my little fairy", Alexander Green patted her head.

Even though this wasn't the first time Grandpa Green has patted her head, but out of all days, today she felt extremely emotional.

No matter how hard she tried to mask her emotions but still the rim of her eyes got red.

Even if it was a small change that came and went on her face in a blink of an eye, it still caught someone's attention. Brian's eyes never left her even for a moment from the moment she delivered her speech.

There was something special about this girl, something intriguing, but he couldn't put his finger on it. Even if he tried, he couldn't tear off his gaze from her.

For him, reading a person was way too easy, but she wasn't like anyone else. No matter how much he tried he couldn't decipher her. Hey eyes looked serene but empty at the same time.

'Her eyes', he thought, may be it were her eyes that intrigued him. They were a beautiful pair.

He soon shrugged the thought, even he couldn't understand, what's wrong with him. It's not the first time that he had met a beautiful woman. So he straightened his thoughts, and extended his hand, "Congratulations Ms. Jones".
