7 Diabetes

Soon after the warm bear hug, Amelia pulled her towards the couch and commanded, "Eat these". Lily saw box of assorted cookies and looked at Amelia confusingly, that when Amelia said, " These are sugar free cookies. I know you are diabetic so I got these and there's one more box of cookies which are not sugar free, you can eat them when your glucose level drops. So now, have these and this Jasmine tea".

That's when Noah came and sat opposite the two ladies and said, "Lily, I know the work pressure is more these days, but you can't neglect your health. I don't want you to get another hypoglycemic attack. You know it's deadly for you. So please eat at regular intervals."

Lily smiled at her two friends while feeling how lucky she was to have these two in her life.

She was type 1 diabetic and came to know about it while she was 12. Those days were some of the worst days of her medically.

Initially she started having lower back aches, so her family thought she must have had calcium deficiency as she was a weak child from the start, so she visited orthopedic and took some calcium supplements and even started her physiotherapy exercises.

They worked for quite a while but none seemed to get rid of her pain.

Hence, her family took her to a Neurologist, thinking she might have a bigger issue. She was asked to go through many medical tests and when the report came, it shook her.

Her body was so weak that she was immediately admitted to the hospital and her reports were bizarre. Her sugar levels were hiked reaching as high as 600, she was anemic, her liver, her kidney weren't functioning properly due to high sugar levels. In short her health had deteriorated and her body broke down.

Her doctor said, "It's a miracle that she seems fine and came her walking on her own. Diabetes has been manifested in her body for quite a while now and it had shown itself now, so we need to take extra care of her".

She was admitted to the hospital for around two weeks, the toxins present in her body were flushed out, her sugar levels were brought down to normal and she was told what changes she should bring in her lifestyle.

She always was a foodie and now she won't be able to eat her favourite foods to her heart's content. She had to take insulin shots before every meal and she can't afford to miss any dose for the rest of her life now.

Her world turned upside down for her, while other children of her age be busy in playing, she couldn't over exert herself. She always had to maintain her weight and keep her sugar in check in order to save herself from other ailments which is now prone to.
