Chapter 4 _____ Too Rich For Her!

Chapter 4

Janet reacted as if she had just been struck by a bolt of ferocious lightning. Her legs almost gave out as she turned to face the man who kept his gaze fixed on her. Looking at her expression, Victor's own features turned dark. Was there something wrong in marrying him? He started to question his attributes while wondering why the woman wasn't squealing in delight at his proposal. Janet began coughing uncontrollably as she had choked on her own saliva.

Patting her chest, she willed herself to calm down. She took a fortifying breath and sputtered, "M-Mr. Reynolds? Y-you just said that you wanted to marry me?"

After a moment of silence, Victor hummed his agreement. Janet almost collapsed again out of complete shock and began to gently massage the surface of her forehead.

"You have got to be kidding me…"

Victor gave her a sharp look before he firmly questioned, "Do I look like someone who actually likes to joke?"

Hell no! Clearly, she was the only one in the room who thought it was some sort of joke. His dark brows rose at her confused face and Janet realized that he was serious. Victor Reynolds has just directly proposed to her. She drew a deep breath to stable her jumbled mind.

"Why? Just because I have saved your life?"

Victor hesitated before admitting, "You could say that! I don't like being indebted to anyone."

Of course, he is a businessman after all!

Janet cleared her throat and started to think about how to reject his proposal in a polite manner. Her life was already full of troubles and she couldn't afford to offend such an influential person.

"Mr. Reynolds, it might be a mere matter for you to marry someone at any time. But for me, marriage holds a whole lot of different meanings. I don't ever plan on marrying someone who is constantly in the limelight. I can't afford to associate myself with such people. Besides, I have already told you that I don't want anything else as reward. So… please take back your offer and let's just happily say goodbye each other here, okay?"

Victor was speechless. Janet had left no room any further discussion. Unfortunately, she was unaware of this one truth; the more she resisted, the more his interest grew.

He sighed softly and leaned back against his fluffy pillows, eyeing her as she shifted uncomfortably in her shoes. "So you are rejecting me because I am too rich? That's a bit snobbish, don't you think?"

Janet bit her tongue. Was her reason too harsh? But she really didn't like the fancy lifestyle or the prospect of having such powerful man by her side. After regaining her composure, she tried to appear bold as she met his unwavering gaze with confidence.

"Well, it's my choice to think this way. Mr. Reynolds, it doesn't really suit you to spend your breath on a woman like me. I really, really don't need any reward from you. Besides, I have other things to do. Rest well!"

Without waiting for his response, she quickly turned around and ran out of the room. No matter what, she couldn't afford such a big tycoon to like her. Besides, how could a D-listed actress be worthy of a man like him? The moment she slipped away, Victor's face darkened considerably. With the help of his long lean arm, he picked up his highly rated smart phone and made a phone call. Once the call was connected, his deep voice echoed heavily in the air.

"Help me investigate the woman who just left my room. You have three hours to bring me the information!"

On the other line, Mr. Zaid, the helpless assistant of Victor Reynolds, broke out in a cold sweat. God only knows who was going to get destroyed this time!

Janet stumbled outside with a thumping heart and jumped on her bike. She was frightened to death after hearing his confession. Before she pulled out of the parking lot, her phone suddenly rang. Her alarm had gone off to remind her of what was on today's schedule. A sudden memory flitted quickly across her mind and then it was gone. She had to go home and get cleaned up.

One hour later, Janet was standing in front of well decorated mansion. Her face was still covered in mask and any one could tell that a party was going on inside. Letting out a frustrated sigh, she nervously approached the stern faced bodyguard and tightened her grip on the handful of white flowers.

"Sir, could you please deliver these flowers inside?"

The guard shot her a suspicious look before growling arrogantly, "Who are you? You don't seem like you are invited in this party. Hmph! Such a poor soul has the audacity to send presents to our master. Go away!"

Janet was harshly pushed back by the guard. She glared up at the guard and was about to say something when a woman's arrogant voice called out from the backyard.

"Guard, who is it? Has Mr. Reynolds arrived yet?"
