25 A soul for slaughter

Responding the very moment the night gyx was in his range of attack, Boris aimed his sword at its heart, hoping to incapacitate its movement to come to a sudden halt.

Golden radiance!!

Golden judgment!!!

Boris hailed to the sky as he immediately activated 'Golden radiance' to stun the beasts, and also 'Golden judgment' which was the clan's strongest technique.

Golden judgment was an attack that increases the destructive force of the 'Golden toothed bloodline' when released, each magic vein irrespective of an individual's rank closes, thereby concentrating one's magical power at a single point, creating a coated golden beam of light that unleashes a destructive blow of attacks at an enemy when released.

''swoosh''

''Bang''

Incapacitating the demonic beast with the cost of having his body immobilized, his mana reserves had completely dried up with his body turning weak from exhaustion.

Borris couldn't keep up the blockage any longer, and could only watch as the rampaging night gyxes passed by him, with some bumping their bodies with his as he tried to fix his foothold on the ground. Boris's eyelids began to close, as his body threatened to fall into an eternal slumber, looking up above, he froze, his body stirred back into reality, while still fearing the tales of death

Looking up, at a tree that was 12 meters away from him, Boris saw a different breed of demonic beast, a beast that he wasn't sure he could defeat alone, even at his peak strength. Although he had never fought and could only remember it due to his memories of its description. It was more of a predator compared to the herds of night gyxes.

A demonic beast that was well known for its intelligence in hunting and maiming of their preys- the armoured scale tailed beast. He didn't even think about having to meet one in this kind of situation, but there he was, staring at it as the beast watched him like prey.

Borris was empty, dried out of mana, but his hands still gripped to his swords, only that he placed their tips to the ground for support. He could no longer delay the advances of the night gyxes, standing still as he was wounded by their stampede, Borris could only watch as the demonic beast made its way towards him.

''Growl''

Planning to bare its teeth at Borris's throat, the beast leapt down and charged its claws aiming for his heart.

His fate was sealed.

He knew it.

He didn't resist it.

He didn't raise his sword for an attack.

He didn't harbour false hope for his survival.

He just stood still and watched as the beast came closer and closer.

The Deadly volcanic region was a forbidden land where losing one's life wasn't surprising, as it was riddled with formidable beasts many times stronger than he was.

But he wasn't even yet in the Deadly volcanic region, but instead at the forest that surrounded it.

How pathetic!

He didn't even manage to step foot in a forbidden land, but only barely made it to the entrance before he lost his life. He was weak, and he knew it.

He knew that aiming to become the strongest ascendant in the underworld, was nothing more but a dream, the journey would be long and unachievable.

He knew it!

That's why he chose to stay in a state-level clan like the Golden steel clan.

His life was about to be bitten away from him, yet he just stood still and accepted fate.

...…

''We might not make it'' Cahira had already lost count of how many times she had heard those words from Liam, as he kept on trying to persuade the group to give up and turn back. She was already starting to feel irritated by Liam's words, but choose not to confront him as wasting more time would truly be too late.

Unfortunately, old man Bael wasn't too surprised by his niece's behaviour but chose not to address the matter as he pondered about their next phase of action.

The group had already traversed a quarter of the distance and were soon arriving at where Boris was, but there was a problem.

At first, they encountered one to two-night gyxes, though it was to be expected as they assumed that Boris couldn't perfectly hold back the beasts. But alas, that was when the real problem began, as they encountered more and more night gyxes, from three to fifteen then twenty. The scenario they didn't want to consider was already surfacing, and it only helped to support Liam's irritating chants.

Old man Bael cut down the heads of the night gyxes that blocked their path, while the rest of the groups just dealt with dealing the finishing blow to the ones that didn't stay down.

Finally, they arrived at the spot where Boris could be seen swinging his two long swords as he managed to incapacitate some beasts, but unfortunately, his effort was of no use as his once radiant amour was ripped up from head toe, with only the breastplate and armguard looking like punctured metals.

His mana reverses were dried up, and his stamina seemed severely lacking as it had already depleted. He was out of energy and couldn't even move his body as he supported himself with his swords.

Looking at a man that looked as though he was on a suicide mission with no way out, Cahira immediately dashed out as she drew her sword from the scabbard wanting to aid Boris while he retreated.

But her efforts were immediately blocked by old man Bael who had immediately stopped her after feeling the outburst of mana and prohibiting her from making such a rash move.

Old man Bael had already felt the presence of a demonic beast much stronger than the night gyxes, although the night gyxes were overwhelming in numbers, they were still weak when compared to him, which was why he dared he come back for Boris because he was confident in his ability to handle them.
