10 『Clockwork Coinage II』

Some of them wore smiles, others wore frowns. She could tell some of the people were either worried for her, or afraid of her.

That didn't stop them from approaching her, it made her smile slightly under the mask, but not enough to give it away.

That was when someone brushed passed Winn and almost took up all her personal space in front of her. It was a woman, she got close up and person with Hekate, a waterprinted pad of paper in one hand and a pen in the other.

She had blond hair, about the length of her neck and down to the tops of her shoulders. Her face was familiar, her ambition shown in her eyes. She appeared professional.

"My name is Cat Grant from CatCo Worldwide Media! I would like to write an editorial on you.. May I have an interview?" Her tongue was quick, she was far from subtle and she held no shame for her actions. This little girl had killed four people and left one barely breathing, yet here she was putting herself first. "What do I call you?"

Of course she would ask, instead of suddenly spurting out a name, she didn't know this person's demeanor. At the same time, this girl didn't seem like superman, she didn't even dress in the same colors. Yet she could tell just by witnessing her prowess, what she was. She couldn't call her supergirl.

After a brief pause, Cat Grant could recognize the surprise in Hekate's eyes despite her other expressions being hidden by the mask. "You may call me Sovereign Law."

"I noticed your emblem, it's similar to Supermans... Are you rela–"

"Do not relate me to Superman." The surprise was quickly left behind by her sudden spur of words, which made some other people step back. Yet there Cat Grant was, still standing there unphased, if anything she took this as a highlight. Do not compare a girl to a man!

"Your crest, what does it mean?" Cat Grant asked after recovering from being cut off by her interviewee. She was clearly annoyed by the fact she had been cut off, but it also uncovered something interesting, it sounded like this new heroine didn't like the man in blue.

By now most people knew what the Glyph on Superman's suit meant, Hope, rather than just an S. However unlike his, hers was a bit different, it didn't look much like a letter. It looked more like a Ying and Yang, in one way or another.

"My Kryptonian Glyph stands for Law, Justice and Integrity. It is the Crest for the House of AN." Her voice was blunt, though she sounded uninterested despite how her eyes spoke legions. There was admiration towards Grant, simply due to her ability to be on top of the capitalist world.

It was someone she thought she could become, all she needed was the money.

"What did your House do in Kryptonian Society?" Cat Grant leaned in a bit more, wanting more information. Hekate instinctively stepped back as she closed in.

"Lawmakers, Warriors."

Cat Grant blinked several times hearing what she had said. Her people had been the Lawmakers of their planet that had been destroyed? Fascinating. And on top of that, they were warriors too. "What are your thoughts of the other heroes in the United States?" It was clear she was different from most of those present such as Batman and Superman.

For a few moments she would give her this gaze, one of thought and cunning. "Their villains keep on breaking out of custody. Superman refuses to kill, Batman refuses to kill on purpose. I see them as foolish for continuously restarting a cycle of madness and needless violence."

"You said earlier that your house stood for Integrity. Where is the honor in beating down or killing humans who are weaker than you?" She asked curiously, wanting to hear the answer.

"Humans are not weaker than me. They are not weaker than Kryptonians. Humans are resourceful, ambitious. They advance at an great and unsteady pace. Where they are physically weaker, they make up with their technological and intellectual prowess." It was clear she didn't look down on human beings. She had only lived amongst them for a week, even though she hadn't seen what they could do up front and personal, she had been on their virtual networks quite often.

"How old are you?" Cat Grant had been surprised by the complex return of answers to her questions. It was like she was speaking with a young adult or public speaker.

"No comment," She glanced to the side slightly towards Winn then towards Cat Grant. The sirens from the police being on their way were becoming audible and closing in quickly.

"How do you think the government will respond to your debut?" Cat Grant pressed another question towards the girl who was beginning to turn away in order to leave.

"They will publically leave me alone, but plot in the shadows. They won't pursue me for the same reason they won't pursue Superman whom they believe will fight for self-preservation." This response was a logical one, but it also called out the Government and the DEO.

Cat Grant nodded slowly as she stood straight up looking over the stuff she had scribbled down. "Where are your parents?" The moment she asked this question, she saw the look in Hekate's eyes. It was as if she was a child ready to cry.

『Someone is entering the women's bathroom, would you like to add your personal effects to your inventory? Y / N』

Hekate nodded inwardly as she let out a sigh, glancing towards the ground before matching her eyes with Cat's. "My parents abandoned me, after I was public framed for giving medical treatment to a known criminal... They allowed a Justicar to force me into stasis for eleven years, and then when they finally freed me from prison and they jettisoned me into space. " Her words were words of anger, "They are dead to me."

Cat Grant wanted to gage what kind of person the one who claims the name of Sovereign Law. "If you met this Judicator again, what would you do?" This seemed to be an anticipated question, but it wasn't likely that it would be met with indifference.

"She stole ten years from me, ten years I could have spent with my parents. Her Judgement was clouded, but she didn't put a gun to my head. I'd ask for compensation." She squinted her eyes, narrowed them on the woman in front of her.

Compensation for ten years lost, compensation for two irreplaceable parents and family time. How could one possibly compensate for that? There wasn't enough money in the whole world to cover up that lost time. Death of the person, didn't give much either. Just what could she get from this person who was likely dead?

"So you want her to be incarcerated for ten years?" Cat Grant was rather confused, if this girl had been incarcerated for ten years, she had to be like four years old, but that didn't make much sense.

"Only if there's a stasis pod to shove her into, so she'd know what it's like to be locked away for ten years and wake up to find the world completely changed." This was straight up out of her mouth, not a single thought was given to these words that left her mouth. None at all.

Cat stared at her, her eyes forward, stasis? They locked a child into stasis, suspended animation, for something that would hardly be considered a crime. She looked at the pad in her hands, then towards the girl in front of her. "What kind of person do you want to become?"

After a short period of thinking and looking out the window as the police cars and swat pulled up to the building. "Protected, Desired, Needed." Were the only three words she spoke before suddenly rushing towards the doors and flying out just before the police could enter the building.
