Seeing Through

'A secret door, quite innovative,' Heaven thought as he walked in next to Howard.

Entering, Heaven saw a corridor leading further down.

Strategic Scientific Reserve Brooklyn Building.

This was the first thing Heaven saw when he entered the corridor on a small metal plaque. Further into the corridor were soldiers carrying weapons openly.

Seeing them, Heaven wasn't worried at all.

He knew thousands of ways to easily take them down before they could shoot. Another thousand if they do begin shooting.

The inside of the building wasn't too large, but it was still sufficiently big for whatever Howard and Abraham wished to create. Soldiers safely guarded every place inside of the building and a handful of scientists walked around.

Noticing various equipment inside the room, Heaven slowly headed in further into the building.

"There are other points of entry that are used in order to not draw any attention. Sometimes you might be required to stay a couple of nights for secrecy and security reasons," explained Howard.

Heaven nodded, "You know, for security reasons, you should maybe switch that old lady for a middle aged woman. She would react too slow for any sudden attack."

Although Heaven could see that the old woman was trained and was most likely an expert when she was younger. It was a shame old age caught up with her and she was less agile and her movements were hindered by fatigue and other things.

"Don't worry. I'm sure the government knows what it's doing," Howard replied, knowing the concerns of having an old lady "guard" the place.

Heaven sighed, "Well. I'm sure they have a way to deal with trained individuals."

"Come, Josef will explain everything to you," Howard mentioned as he brought Heaven to Abraham working with some stuff.

Leading Heaven further in the facility, Heaven was led to a door that completely sealed the inner room from the outside world.

Curious, Heaven watched as Howard opened the door and led the way in.

Closing the door behind him, Heaven found himself sprayed with a disinfectant before being told to wear a white lab coat and thin white gloves.

Inside the room was only Abraham who was looking at a couple of chemicals in beakers.

After he heard the door opened, Abraham turned around with a serious look on his face before sighing in relief after seeing that it was only Heaven and Howard.

"Alright Josef, you can explain the things to the kid. I have a machine I need to prepare," Howard said as he pushed the responsibility of delegating information to Heaven over to Josef.

Abraham smiled kindly, knowing Howard would have done this long ago.

Howard left rapidly, believing Abraham would stop him. With a chuckle, he closed the door behind him.

Heaven shook his head with a smile and turned to look at Abraham with narrowed eyes.

"So, what's really happening here? This place is tightly guarded, you're in here all alone and there's a couple of reputable scientists here, including a couple of military scientists. In fact, a scientist of your caliber wouldn't go unnoticed in America, so you must be from a different country.

Judging from your accent, you must have come from Germany. You might be using a fake name as well, right? Dr. 'Reinstein'?"

Heaven maintained his smile and narrowed eyes as he spoke to Abraham.

Having read various books and memorized not just the knowledge within them, but also who had written them. There were author's of rather impressive books here that have attained a great grasp of their field.

Abraham looked at Heaven in surprise and with slight fear.

In just such a short moment and only two meetings they've had, Heaven had already uncovered a lot of things. Opening his mouth, Abraham was about to speak before Heaven lifted his hand and stopped him.

"Wait. Judging from the circumstances and the things I've seen since we entered, this must be an operation funded by the American Government. I saw some English Scientists as well, so this must be an allied operation.

And it looks like the war is already about to involve America… By the looks of everyone's anxious and somber expressions, you might know something about the Nazi's that will give them an advantage over the Allied forces."

Whilst Heaven was speaking, he was keeping a close eye on Abraham's expression, easily pulling all the information out of him.

"Hmm… I see… and you… Yes, that's right, you know how to recreate this thing that will give the Nazis an edge over the allied forces and this is what this whole thing is. To recreate that special thing. A weapon? No. A transport? No. If it's none of that… modifications? Yes… Not on weapons… nor on transport… but on people!

You're working with chemicals whilst Howard seems to be building some sort of chamber, to help with the digestion and absorption of what you're planning to give to said person. You're planning to make an enhancing drug that strengthens a soldier to their utmost limits!

A Super Soldier!

How impressive!"

All of this was deduced by Heaven in just a moment after combining everything he had seen and heard ever since he entered this building. As well as a couple of clues Abraham Erskine's minor change in expressions were given him.

"Impossible! How did you know?!"

Abraham looked at Heaven in horror, scared at how everything was seen through Heaven in a mere moment. Fear sprouted in his heart as he recalled his dead family and his time being in a concentration camp back in Germany.

The thought of Heaven being a Nazi spy appeared in his mind and just as he wanted to escape, Heaven acted swiftly.

"Dr., no need to worry. I'm not an enemy," Heaven said as he revealed a gentle look on his face with a similarly kind smile. "I am not someone who does evil deeds."

"Who are you?" asked Abraham nervously.

"I thought we introduced each other yesterday?" asked Heaven as he gave Abraham a weird look.

Abraham looked at Heaven, a little nervous. He looked into Heaven's excited yet gentle eyes and he could see how Heaven was maintaining his distance in order to not scare him.

Haa…

Letting out a sigh, Abraham gave Heaven one last look before shaking his head.

"You are very sharp, Heaven. A genius among geniuses," mumbled Abraham as he turned away from Heaven. "You might even be wise and shrewd…"

Smiling wryly, Heaven kept quiet despite the fact that he could clearly hear Abraham in this quiet and closed chemical lab.

"Alright… I'll place my trust on you," Abraham said as he turned to look at Heaven with a small smile on his face.

Heaven sighed and quietly told Abraham, "You have nothing to worry Dr.

As I have mentioned before, I will never harm the innocent nor will I ever become someone who terrorizes people."

Abraham smiled.

"My real name is Abraham Erskine."

"Nice to meet you Dr. Erskine."

Heaven stretched out his hand to Abraham who just looked at his hand for a second before chuckling.

"Nice to meet you, Heaven," saying that, Abraham outstretched his own hand as well and shook Heaven's hand.

Having successfully escaped from having to explain things to Heaven, Howard made his way over to his area of work.

There, he found a blueprint on top of a table.

He still hadn't begun the production of the actual machine he needed, but Howard wasn't worried at all. Simply fixing some problems here and there on the blueprint was all he was doing at the moment.

It would save him a lot of trouble when he begins building it and would have to constantly pull it apart and rebuild it.

Nonetheless, it took a lot of brainpower and too much of his own free time.

Right now he could be enjoying a nice morning with a couple of beautiful women but here he was working. Luckily he had an expo coming up in two months and could use that as an excuse to build something on the side and fool around.

Smiling to himself, Howard eventually covered the new blueprint that had gone through 23 reworks before he felt satisfied.

And it only took him an hour.

Looking at the time, Howard wondered what Heaven and Abraham were doing at the moment.

Feeling rather curious, Howard walked over to Abraham's chemical lab and opened the door.

"Hahaha!"

A boisterous laughter rang out as Howard watched in amazement as both Heaven and Abraham were talking with each other.

It was like they were old friends.

"To think you came up with something like this. It's truly a shame that it had been used on such a terrible person," Heaven said as he drank an unknown liquid from a beaker.

Abraham nodded with a sigh.

"To become such a wicked person… the serum only heightened the worst in him."

"Don't worry about him. I'm sure someone will deal with him," Heaven said as he smiled mysteriously.

"Until someone does, that man will continue hurting many people," Abraham said as he felt downcast.

Heaven cast Abraham a sideward glance before looking up at the ceiling.

"Dr. Erskine… A being who passes their time looking at the bad will never see the good in anything. If you wallow yourself in your mistakes, who can never see what you can do better. You have escaped from the concentration camp and the universe has gifted you the chance to correct that mistake.

Open your eyes and take a good look at what you can do for the good of the world."

Heaven's words were gentle and soothing, and they struck deeply within Abraham's scarred heart.

He lifted his head and looked at Heaven with a bright gaze. Just those words coming from Heaven made Abraham feel a different drive. A much more pure and good drive that wasn't filled with desperation nor worry.

"You've got a great mind and heart on you, Heaven," Abraham said as he smiled. A true smile, not a half smile like he had given all the time.

A smile filled with sincerity and gratitude.

Nodding, Heaven finished what he was drinking and stood up before glancing at Howard who stood at the door.

Heaven nodded at him before he turned and began to study the various chemicals in the lab.

Sitting on a chair, Abraham calmly watched as Heaven studied the chemicals.

"What happened?" Howard asked Abraham.

Shaking his head, Abraham turned to Howard, "Nothing much. Just a realization that Heaven is truly an incredible individual."

"An incredible individual?"

Howard looked over at Heaven with a confused look on his face before turning back to Abraham.

Lowering his voice, Howard asked, "Did you tell him about the… project?"

"Yes. He's going to be the best addition to the team," Abraham said with a bright look in his eyes.

"A great addition?"

While Howard and Abraham were talking, Heaven was studying the chemicals with a disappointed look on his face.

Out of all the chemicals before him, there were only two chemicals that could be used as ingredients for his special mixture. Since that was the case, Heaven could turn his attention to the herbs and various vegetation of Earth to search for the other ingredients.

If it doesn't work out in the end, he would need to find a way to recreate the herbs, chemicals, or even simply change the composition of the special mixture.

This also wasn't the only thing Heaven was doing.

As he looked for ingredients for his special mixture, he also began studying the chemicals and various mixtures they could combine into. His incredible intellect and absolute comprehension abilities all allowed him to make millions of calculations.

Various types of poisons, medicines, hallucinogenic drugs, concoctions and elixirs all rapidly filled his mind.

A large majority were very useless to the current him and only a handful were of use.

For example, from the current chemicals before him, Heaven could create a weak medicine that could help increase the natural regenerative ability of the human body for half an hour. However, it would drain one's energy and stamina, resulting in one being very tired after 30 minutes.

Nonetheless, it was already a very good medicine that can be created with such low quality chemicals.

Other mixtures were able to change the composition of his body or even enhance it, but they weren't what Heaven wanted. They carried impurities and those would hinder his future.

Not to mention that they were simply consumables that gave one an easy ride to getting stronger. It doesn't instill into someone the disciple nor mental strength and acuity that one gains through training oneself.

Once one takes the easy way, it's only a matter of time before they grow addicted to it.

Their heart becomes lax and that discipline disappears.

One might even kill for a simple strength increase.

Never had Heaven taken the easy route, and neither will he ever begin it.

Not to mention that things like this require a balancing with the Natural Order of the universe. Fate moves and terrible things could happen to someone or their future growth is cut off.

A loved one of theirs could die or terrible fiends arrive to wreak havoc on your life.

One can't attain something without paying a price.
