“No wonder Grand likes you so much. She loves to read. I would rather go out and ride my bike, go somewhere on my skateboard, or just be out doing something.”

“Don’t get me wrong, I love being outside doing stuff as well. But ever since I was little I just loved reading,” Zora said. “I mean, I was named for my mom’s favorite author so I guess I didn’t have a choice.”

“Oh yeah, I get it, Their Eyes Were Watching God. I remember reading that in college. Great book,” Sarah said.

Zora was surprised. It was rare that people got the reference to her name on the first go-around. Avowed non-reader Sarah being so quick especially surprised her, but then again, when your grandmother was a librarian, being up on the woman called a literary genius of the South wasn’t surprising.
