Satellites

In the room one would hear a pin drop. Liu Jia was shocked. This was not just the end of the world, this could mean terrifying destruction. It would be inhumane. "No way..."

Liu Beng just shrugged and checked his phone. There was still no news from government. He didn't expect one so soon, but it was better then to stare at her.

"You think politicians know?" She wanted to speculate further apparently.

"No, I don't think so. I think we are the only ones attempting to make a contact. If they answer everyone will know. First tho, would be..." As he was speaking an idea came over him. "You remember Song Wuyi?"

"The bad kisser? He put up with me for over a year, of course I remember him"

"He's a computer guy, right?"

"Yeah, really good at coding. His fingers are crazy... on the keyboard of course." She finished quickly while showing a rare blush.

"Jiajia, I'm your brother, don't put that kind of ideas in my head..." Liu Beng was not amused. "Anyway, we should pay him a visit."

"Why?" She was stunned. She had no contact with Wuyi in ages, how could she just waltz in without invitation?

"Because we are of one mother. Now let's go" He said half smiling, while exiting his apartment.

"That's not what I was asking!" She shouted angrily blushing and chased after him to the elevator.

_____________

Song Wuyi didn't care about aliens outside. He had his own issues. For example there were only half of declared people for todays raid. It was a guild run, so there was no point in taking randoms.

"I guess it is a problem after all." He sigh to the ceiling and opened forums. First images and confirmations were being posted everywhere. At this point various governments scheduled public speeches for the next day. It could be said they were playing for time to have any valuable information to say. People were not amused, but at least they didn't riot. Which was good for everyone.

As he was reading article that ridiculed Fermi for tempting fate, the doorbell ranged. Guessing that aliens may as well visit him to run some test, or something to kill boredom, he opened door.

"It really is an alien!" He said looking at the Liu Jia.

"Very funny." she scoffed at him and stated. "My brother came with an idea, that's why we're here."

"Let me guess, you want to check if aliens are hacking internet?"

"Uh, yeah!" Liu Beng was crestfallen "Can you do that?"

"There's no need for that. Come in, I'll explain better" The room was tidy. Song Wuyi may be 'a computer guy', but that doesn't stop him from regular cleaning. He even had tea and coffee to offer for his guests.

When they sat, he started explaining why it was pointless, since technology of aliens is surely advanced enough to cover their tracks. Moreover he doesn't even know what to search, or if he have clearance for that stuff. after ten minutes, Liu Beng had enough and directly said.

"Can you just check if there was a signal from satellites within last hour or so?"

"What does it change?" Wuyi was lost for a moment, and couldn't comprehend the meaning.

"We don't have satellites anymore. I checked all agencies on the way here. We are blind."

"...Who are you?" To have that kind of access one had to be connected to a military, or to be a recognized official. Wuyi wasn't interested in either, so he was crestfallen.

"I have friends here and there, you know, the usual. Anyway, check this please."

Everyone has right to his secrets, so Wuyi could only grumble under his nose and start checking the network logs. It was a tedious task, but in half an hour he managed to create a working algorithm to search for the unknown, and there is a lot of unknown on the internet.

"You were right" He said a few minutes later "There are multiple entries around the globe. Mostly harmless from what I can say... Wow!"

"What is it?" At first Liu Beng was starting to relax, but now he was on his legs staring at the screen, trying to decipher what was written with negligible success.

"I think they want to download the internet."

"... What...?"

"Those logs are full of requests. For now They take everything that's not protected, but eventually they'll run out, and at that point I guess, they'll just force their way into the rest. Look, they even are using P2P systems." Whatever he was showing on the screen, Liu Beng was nodding knowingly.

Of course it was an act. Liu Beng had no idea what those numbers meant. All he needed though, was the verbal explanation, which he got without needless details.

"That's bad" He said without a ceremony, and seeing questioning gazes he continued. "They'll take everything, and then terramorph the planet. It looks like they take picture of our civilization beforehand."

"You say, they won't forget us, but won't miss us?"

"I say, that if they check rule thirty four section, there will be no need to look for another excuse."
