9 Chapter 009: A Day In The Life Of An Avid Reader

Shiratori-San woke up in her room as normal. She began to do her normal routines for the morning. Getting dressed, reading a book for about 30 minutes, eating breakfast and then going to school. But for now let's just start with her eating breakfast.

"You seem different then normal. Did something happen?"

"Hm? Ah, nothing major. I just met someone recently and we get along quite well."

Shiratori-San is an only child so she only had mom and dad at the table and her dad hardly ever talked so it was her mom who was asking the questions during breakfast.

"Oooohhhh? Really now? What's her name?"

"It's not a girl, it's a guy, Sato Sato-San."

"…Really?! I thought you'd never fall for someone!"

"Huh?! What-What makes you think that?!"

"Hmmmm, we'll I mean….You've never really gotten along well with anyone before and the fact that after all this time it's a man! Can't I dream just a little about your love life?"

"No! Definitely not!"

She began to turn red as she scarfed down the rest of her food and grabbed her bag.

"Hey! Where are you going?"

"I'm leaving early!"

"Oh okay then! That just makes things more suspicious!"

She closed the door and began to run from her house so she could get away from her mother as fast as possible. She began to turn the corner and ran into someone and fell over.

"Are you okay?"

It was Shirai Sota and he was reaching out with his right hand. It was as if they were thrown into the plot of a manga.

"Yes, I'm fine…"

"Oh hey! You're Shiratori-San, Higura-San's friend."

"Y-Yeah…I'm fine so I'll be going now."

"Okay! Maybe I'll see you later!"

He was making a large wave as she turned around the corner and lost sight of him.

'I-I thought that was Sato-San for a second…I need to clear my mind!'

She let out a deep breath and continued walking to the school. She made it in about 15 minutes of a slow walking speed. She had taken out a book after a short time on her way to school and it was one of Sato-San's novels.

"Sato-San really is a good author, I hope his next work comes out soon."

She gave her book a hug before putting it back in her bag, but before she could she heard a voice come from behind her.

"Hm? I think I know you from somewhere!"

She turned around with a panicked fade only to realize it was another of Sato-San's friends, Kawasaki Hayate.

"Hmmmmm…Oh! Shiratori-San! That's your name right?"

"Y-Yes. What are you doing here?"

"I don't even know myself, for some reason all my clocks in my house were really off, I thought I was an hour late but I guess I'm not. This is a very rare thing to happen, normally I'm the last person to enter the school."

"I'll be going now, it was nice to see you again."

She began to walk away but hadn't realized that she dropped her book when she was startled. Kawasaki-San also didn't notice and walked right past it.

'I thought it was Sato-San again, I know his voice why…Why…Maybe it's because I want to see him…'

She was in the hall that was connected to her homeroom. She was about to open the door when she heard another person say her name.

"Shiratori-San?"

She turned around and this time it was Sato-San. She began to turn red again when she saw his face.

'This all because of what you said mom! Why do I do feel embarrassed to be around him now?'

"Um, Shiratori-San?"

He now had a confused look written on his face, he was talking to her but she was so focused on yelling in her head that she hadn't heard Sato-San which only made her more embarrassed and turn redder.

"Y-Yes? What did you say? I was zoned out…"

"Oh, I was just saying you dropped your book. You're the only Shiratori-San I know that reads books so I assumed it was yours. If it's not I'll go put it in the list and found."

She opened her bag and saw that her book wasn't inside.

"Y-Yes! That is mine! Sorry for the trouble, I'll be going now!"

She quickly grabbed the book, went into the classroom and closed the door so Sato-San couldn't get in.

"Uhhhh, why'd you close the door? I still have to come inside also."

'Why did I do that??!! This is just going to make things worse…'

She slowly opened the door again and looked at him.

"Sorry."

"Oh no, it's fine. I don't think anything of it."

"Okay then."

She walked to her desk and sat down. She put her head down into her arms and sat there contemplating where her embarrassment was coming from.

'Why? Why now so suddenly?'

She threw up her arms and began letting out a small scream. She looked around and saw that everyone in the class was looking at her except for Sato-San who was on his phone doing something.

'Aaaahhhh, what is he doing? Could he be texting his girlfriend? …Why am I thinking that?! This is nothing like me, I normally act quiet and timid. Why do I suddenly change when I think of him???!!!'

She put her head back in her arms and waited for class to start. When it did start she could only think of Sato-San and this went on through the entire day.

Finally the end of the day came.

'I managed to avoid him for the entire day…Maybe I shouldn't go to the library just as a precaution…'

"Hm? Oh, Shiratori-San."

Shirai-Kun had appeared again and was walking up to Shiratori-San.

"Wow, I'm running into you quite a bit! What are

yo-"

"Shirai-San! Where are you?!"

"Oh no…I guess I should have gone straight to the student council room…"

Sota turned and saw a girl with straight black hair and purple eyes turned up the nearby stairs and looked straight at Sota.

"I'm dead…"

She began walking towards Sota with a serious expression and stared him down.

"Where were you? You said you'd come straight to the student council room. Why didn't you come?"

"I can explain…I was just walking around and was going to head to the council room but ran into Shiratori-San…Here…Where'd she go?"

"Making lies now are we? You're coming with me."

She grabbed his shirt and began to drag him down to the student council room.

"No! Don't kill me! I still have so much t-"

His screams were suddenly cut off. Shiratori-San was around the corner and heard everything. She suddenly gained a fear of the student council Vice President.

'I should make sure to never get in trouble, I never want to be in a room alone with her…I don't want to die…'

She began to walk again but ran into Sato-San again.

"Oh, hey Shiratori-San. Heading to the library?"

"Huh? …Uh, yeah. I was going to the library."

"Then let's go together, I was heading there myself."

"…Okay, lets."

They walked to the library while Shiratori-San's heartbeat began to beat faster and faster. When they reached the library they went to go look at books and stayed together the entire time until he went went home. She was giving a small wave while seeing him off and breathed a sigh of relief.

'I guess I really do love Sato-San…Mom's intuition is surprisingly good sometimes…'

She began to make her way home while continuing to think of Sato-San and was also reading a book she had just checked out at the library.

That was a day in the life of an avid reader.
