1 Chapter One

RING!!!!!!!!!!

RING!!!!!!!!!!

Waking up to the sound of her blaring alarm, Nicole rolled over onto her side to hit the snooze button, but decided to just check her phone and get ready for school. She was new to this school, everything was backwards to her, because she knew that she had left all her friends to come here, and not one bit did she like it.

Either way she got up, got a shower, brushed her teeth, then brushed her long curly hair, into a bun. She was tired so she felt no need to look cute today, it's only a new school. She has no one to impress.

Walking over to her closet, she decided to throw on some sweatpants and a hoodie, she was comfortable. By the time she was done it was time for her to leave for the bus. Nicole decided not eat because her nerves are a mess. Her friends aren't with her anymore, and she knew that the people here would never compare to the ones back home. Normally she would have driven, but unfortunately her mom was working over night at the law firm. That's the reason they moved, her mom got transferred. This job is new to them. They never had to move, but ever since her dad died, McKenzie, her mom, had to take on some extra hours to support them, eventually leading to a promotion.

The bus had pulled up at 7:30 as it was supposed to. She walked all the way to the back of the bus, she found a seat with no one in it, so she sat in it.

Not to much longer after she was at school trying to find her way around to the attendance office, when she found it they gave her everything she needed for the day. The office called for a boy to show her around. His name was Austin.

After showing Nicole where her classes were, Austin walked her to her first block, which is luckily his class as well. While the teacher was babbling on about stuff no one seemed to care about as half the class was already asleep, Austin said

"I know you're new, so I'm gonna assume that you have no one to eat with, so if you want, you can come with me and my friends."

Grateful of his offer Nicole accepted, she didn't mind being alone, but it wasn't exactly great to start off in a new school alone.

"That would be nice, tha-" She was cut off by a loud voice

"MISS!!! DO YOU WISH TO TEACH THE CLASS? I AM THE TEACHER , I AM SPEAKING. IF YOU DON'T MIND MY CLASS IS TRYING TO LEARN SOMETHING!!!" Nicole is a naturally snarky person, so she replied

"They're clearly not trying too hard. Half of them are asleep, maybe it's cause it's only 8:15. Or maybe it's cause no one cares, mister." Exasperated, and at a loss for words the teacher said

"Okay Nicole"

Realizing I was the new kid in his class,

"If you're so smart, and seem to know everything, tell me, Dimitri Mendeleiev, who was he, where was he from, what what did he do?" Chemistry and Biology were always my two strongest subjects him school, but he didn't know that.

"Well Mister Jacobs" I said after reading the plaque on his desk.

"He was a Russian Chemist who created the farsighted version of the periodic table." By now everyone in the class was whispering and making snarky comments towards the teacher.

"As you are correct, that doesn't change the fact that you now have detention the rest of the week. Today is only Monday, enjoy your first week of school Miss Wilson. I hope the attitude changes soon, or we will have some issues in this class." The bell rang about two minutes ago so the class was empty. Still feeling a little sassy after the outburst, Nicole replied

"Enjoy the rest of the year Mister Jacobs, if your yelling doesn't change soon, we're gonna have some problems in this class." Turning on her heel, she went to leave, as she was almost out the door, Nicole heard him shout,

"That's another week Miss Wilson!" Having no time to think, Austin came up to her.

"One week of detention on the first day? You really know how to push peoples buttons there shorty." Laughing at the nickname, Nicole replied telling him that it was now two weeks, and filling him in on the conversation they had after the bell rang. Throwing his arm over her shoulder, they walked to lunch. Nicole thought to herself, maybe this year won't be as bad as she thought, and maybe, just maybe she will make some friends like the ones she had back home. But who knows right? Things are complicated. Life is complicated. She misses home. She missed the people she knew. She missed it all. Her life felt empty right now. It felt as though she had nothing left. Nothing for her. She didn't have much. She didn't believe in other people. She didn't trust anyone anymore. It was hard on her, but she knew she needed to at least give the people here a chance if she was gonna be staying for a while. Austin seemed like a lot of fun. He seemed really cool. But people aren't always as they seem. Nothing is.

Nicole knew how it went. New school same people. She's seen it a thousand times in movies. Then again, not everyone breaks out into song and dance either. She still knew though. She still knew that everyone had their groups, everyone had their friends and right now she doesn't really fit in. Not until she finds her people. Her place. Everyone seemed to respect Austin, she wasn't sure why, but they did. Maybe it's cause he was a handsome guy with a cool personality, or maybe there's more to the story.
