220 Thornton's Dead

Worry for her friends consumed Eva to the point that she couldn't concentrate on her calls at work or the novel she was trying to write at home. She stared at the blinking cursor in her word processor for hours at a time.

The stupid thing was mocking her and her inability to focus. But how could she? She hadn't heard from either John or Hazel in three days despite her best attempts.

The Blade had escaped from prison and she was terribly worried about both of them but neither responded to her desperate pleas for a simple 'I'm alive' message. She might be able to understand Hazel ignoring her if she was still angry about using her as a survival tool but what about John?

He had no reason not to answer her messages. They had been talking every day before the sudden radio silence that happened right after Thornton escaped. Eva desperately tried to convince herself it was a terrible coincidence.
