3 Jill's Nightshift

Jill's POV:

I walk into the hospital and am greeted by security,

"Good afternoon Jill! Night shift day?"

I nod at Harry, "Yep! Every week two days a week," I laugh a little as he scans my badge.

"All good Jill! Have a safe night in the ER!" Harry says smiling at me.

I go through the metal detector, I walked through the doors and headed for the locker rooms on the 2nd floor, I changed into my scrubs and headed down to the ER, Crash & Burn by Arianna Grande and G-Eazy begins to play from my cell,

I pull it out seeing it's my brother I sigh and answer it,

"I'm at work Daryl."

"I know, I just wanted to check on you! Harry said you're covered in bruises!" My brother says through the phone.

I sigh, "I got into it with a junkie in the ER that attacked me last night and I fell at home, I'm fine, the new house just needs some getting used to I'll be fine, I have a roommate I'm not alone," I say into my phone as I walk into the ER.

"Okay sis! Call if you need me! Don't be a stranger!" He says, "I love you!"

"I love you too and I will Dar!" I say smiling.

"Bye sis," he says.

"Bye bro," I say as I hang up and put my phone into my pocket and pull my pager out, turning it on.

I go grab my tablet for my patients, I clock in at the desk, then login into my tablet and access my patient files for the night, I head for Trauma Bay 1 to check vitals on a patient waiting for Ortho,

"Hello I'm Jill your nurse, I'm just here to check your vitals before Ortho gets here to check out that leg," I say sweetly smiling at the girl in front Of me.

"It hurts so much!" She cries out, I check out her leg and it's bruised badly.

"I understand, Ortho is on their way," I say trying to reassure her as I begin to check her vitals then type them into my tablet.

As I go to leave she grabs my arm, causing me to make a face since it was on the bad bruise that was covered with my long sleeve, I push it away as I ask,

"What's wrong Alex?"

"I'm scared! My parents are going to kill me!" She cries out, then begins to cry.

I sit on the chair near her bed, "I'm sure they will only care that you're alive, can you tell me how this happened?"

"I was goofing off with my friends doing flips and I screwed one up and ended up on the ground, landing wrong on my leg, and hence why it's probably broken, it hurts so badly," She cries more.

I hit the page button and wait for the nurse that checked her in to come in,

"Yes?" Milly asks.

"Did you give her any pain meds?" I ask.

"They are right here! I was on my way back here when you paged," she says smiling and handing me the medicine.

"Thank you Milly!" I say smiling at her.

"You're welcome Jill," she says before leaving the room.

I turn back to Alex and give her the medicine through her IV and say, "just give it a few minutes and it will start working I'll go see what's up with Ortho."

"Thank you Jill," Alex says as she rests her head on the bed.

"You're welcome," I reply with a smile and head out to find Ferrah our Ortho resident.

It takes me 5 minutes to find her, she was heading our way anyways, I leave her to tend to Alex as I check on my other patients, before I know it it's 5, I go find my boss and ask for my break for 6:30, he says yes to me and I leave to go back to the ER, I text Gerald quickly,

I'll have a break at 6:30!

I put my phone away and sit at the desk, I answer the phone until my break, I look up as I'm grabbing my phone off the desk to see Gerald smiling and holding a bag of food near the ER doors, I smile back at him and go clock out for my break, then I go see him,

"Hey!"

He smiles and kisses my cheek, "Hello! How's work?"

"It's good, how's being home?" I ask.

"Lonely and quiet without you there," he says as we walk towards the cafeteria.

"Aww I'm sorry! I'm saving lives here!" I say opening the cafeteria doors, holding them open so he can walk in.

He walks in and I follow behind as he says, "Hey don't apologize, you're doing an amazing thing, plus I kinda love having a nurse for a roommate at least if I get hurt you'll patch me up!"

I start laughing as we sit down, "Anytime hun!"

He pulls out two containers and hands me one, I get a whiff of it and its Chinese, "mmmm my favorite Chinese."

He laughs, "I know I saw the menu on the fridge and couldn't resist It's my favorite too."

We laugh and eat, then he hugs me goodbye and I head back to working.

I deal with a lot of patients, I get a crazy one around 1am,

"Stop fighting me!" I command the 21 year old guy who is tweaking out.

"Fuck you bitch!" He yells and tries to swing, but I duck and strap that arm down.

"Knock the name calling off now! Or I'll call security and they are worse than me!" I say back to him.

"Fucking a!" He screams as I somehow get his other arm strapped down.

"I'm calling psych since you won't tell me what you're on," I say turning around and leaving the room to go phone psych.

I pick up the ER phone and dial 45 for psych, I wait for them to pick up,

"Hi, yes it's Jill , I need a consult in the ER Room 7, he's freaking out and tried to hit me but won't tell us what he took, I'm going to get blood in a minute , just wanted to call you guys first," I say into the receiver.

"Alright Jill I'll send someone down right away!" Morgan says.

"Thank you!" I say.

"You're welcome Jill," she says before hanging up.

I go grab the stuff to draw blood and head back to room 7, I sighed and entered the room, I take Ryan's blood, and then psych arrives and I let them do there thing and go check on my other patients. I was beginning to feel tired and Gerald hasn't texted me at all, not even when I took my break a half hour ago his phone rang until voicemail, I shrugged it off.

5am...

I call Gerald to see if he's on his way since his car isn't outside , it goes to voicemail, I groan and order an Uber, get in it and when I get home, I go inside and what I see terrified me, that I screamed loudly and dropped my bag onto the floor.
