10 My mum
The holidays were soon over and classes resumed instantaneously as normal.
"Steve had always been the person I dreamt of having as a boyfriend" lily told Betty with a radiant smile plastered on her cheeks.
"mm am happy for you lily I guess I was wrong" Betty chipped in with a remorseful voice.
"No problem...but what about Phoenix?" Lily added
Her heart raced instantly when she heard his name.
"Betty...??" Lily called out when she saw that she became lost in thoughts
She couldn't take it any longer, she had missed Phoenix much more than she had imagined but she reasoned that he might not care at least not now, bit honestly she was so confused on what step to take. She told lily everything that happened between them.
"I.....don't know what to do again" she sobbed
"I think it would be better if you go and meet him Betty at least try to listen to him" Lily said feeling pitied towards her
"I...should had listened to him" she stammered
"Its alright tomorrow we will go and meet him alright?"
"mm okay"
"Cheer up Betty the phoenix I know would never want to hurt you" she said consoling Betty
With that they planned to visit phoenix tomorrow. It was just too late so Betty decided to spend the night at Lily's.
Awake in the night was a young and depressed boy just staring at the dark empty sky.
"phoenix aren't you going to bed" a voice echoed behind him
"mum??" he was some what surprised to see her
"how are you sweetheart" she asked contemplating on what next to say
"Am fine" he answered plainly.
"Why are you still awake by this time"
"It...s...nothing....I'll be going to bed goodnight mum" he said heading towards his bed
"Phoenix" she called his name so lovingly
"I know I haven't been a good mum for some years now, I had left you alone to fight your battles and I know I might not be of any help now but I just want you to know that I'll be Here whenever you need me" she added almost tearing up.
There was a long silence between both of them as the atmosphere became even more depressing for phoenix.
"I promise" she hugged him
"Mum can you stay with me for tonight" he pleaded
"of course my prince"
"Thank you mum" as he lay beside her. She tucked him in and they both went to sleep.
Phoenix woke up pretty late in the morning, he turned and his mum wasn't by his bed side again. He felt dismayed but dismissed it. He had slept pretty well last night.
"Betty am so sorry" he whispered to himself. He hadn't been at rest for a while and he hoped she would listen to him but she asked to be alone and he had to obey that.
Someone entered his room with a tray of hot tea and bread interrupting his thoughts.
"Mum??!!"
"Good morning son. How was your night?" she asked with all smiles
"It....was....ni...ce...." he stammered
"Here's your breakfast, eat up so I can drop you off at school"
He stood up looked at the food then at her and hugged her
"I love you mum"
"I love you too son.....but you got to go and shower" she said as they both chuckled
"I'll be right back" he dashed into the bathroom
After breakfast she helped him get dressed. Usually he just wore anything that came to his mind but now his mom was around it took him hours to dress up
"Nope you look old in that"
"But mum...."
"no no..... here try this on"
"....."
"Trust me you will look good in it pretty sure all the girls would trip for you with this on" she smiled
"Mum!!"
They left the house hand in hand. She dropped him off at school.
"Phoenix wait" she stopped him as he was about to step out of the car.
"yes mum?"
She placed a kiss on his forehead.
"I love you, be a good boy"
"Love you too mum"
"I'll be back in time to pick you up from school Okay?"
"Okay mum bye"
Phoenix was overwhelmed with joy as he went into his class but he paused in his tracks when he saw Betty approach him.
"No...she can't" he fumbled with himself
"Hi phoenix"
"..."
"I would love to talk to you after school do you mind?"
