1 Chapter One: The Battle of Another Realm (Updated 1/2020)

The world has finally gone to shit. At the start of the decade the tension between Russia and the Ukraine Government finally broke. Russia began a full scale invasion into Ukraine bringing the world to the 3rd World War. Even with NATO forces stationed on the borders they were unprepared for the massive push the Russians sent. Russia continued to advance into Europe, while China began to conquest for land they say they hold since ancient times. Pakistan and India fought against each other with fire and hate that they could no longer hold it after years of proactive attacks between the two.

The United States had to once again take a stand for Liberty and Freedom and become the world's police force, but their forces were thin with the democratic party holding the majority again causing defense spending to be halved. Their forces were in no condition to help immediately. Not only was the spending a problem, but many of the young generation refused to join the military saying it was not their fight to help in and that the war will never arrive at their borders. Two years into the World War with the changing of the President the US Congress finally approved an initial force to help halt the Russian advance at the the German-Poland Border.

It's been six years since the first US force has arrived at the border and that force became known as the Demonic Dragons for there ferocity to hold their ground and push the enemy back. They were able to push back the Russian Forces to the Polish-Ukraine border before the war took a standstill. During this time NATO decided to create a wall to prevent the Russians from moving over the fields. By locking down the border their were only a total of 9 checkpoints into Poland from the Russian side. Russia would have to mass its armies and break through the Check points before they could invade Europe once again. While the idea was good the execution of planning and resources was done poorly.

For units at the Checkpoints reinforcements from a Quick Reaction Force could not arrive for at least 2 days. The reason was that the Russians could bomb and send artillery near key locations behind the control points so the Bases were required to be far enough back out of range. It was the start of December before the War once again began. This is where our story begins.

December 2030

Control Point Charlie on the Polish-Ukraine Border

Stationed Forces: 130th MP Company (Demonic Dragons), 67th Mechanized Infantry Company, 134th Engineer Company; 1st Platoon, and 2 Platoons of Mercenaries.

It was just another day at the checkpoint nothing to see around us besides destroyed fields and unexploded ordnance. The winter cold makes the day go by slowly. As the commander finishes his coffee his Executive Office (XO) arrives next to him.

" Commander it smells like today will bring more blood in this never ending war", Executive Officer.

" I fear you might be right Lieutenant. It's been far too long since both sides have faced each other. I can sense they are getting restless. Call for the Platoon Leaders and Captain Frost to arrive at the Tactical Operations Center (TOC). Let's plan our courses of action one more time just in case the Russians come".

" Understood Sir".

As 1LT Snow, my Executive Officer(XO), walks away, I began to think of our plan. Our checkpoint was about the size of a football field with the entrance to both the Polish and Ukraine Border being the length of the end-field. We had the border walls on our left and right while both entrances were packed with sand bags, towers, and tank traps to ensure if we had to fight we wouldn't make it easy. I had a company sized element located in this control point, roughly 190 souls I am in charge of.

CPT Frost leads the 67th and had 220 Souls within his company. LT Grey has 50 souls in his engineer PLT.

The Mercenaries… well we don't really talk with them and let them do their own thing, but they were given the week off back at Main base for their rest cycle. Usually we would only have a platoon sized element hold our CP, but then we wouldn't be able to hold the area especially knowing backup won't arrive for three days.

As I was looking at the map of where the enemy forces were located and looking at our current defense positions my Platoon Leaders and fellow Commander walked into TOC. When I saw my PLs i couldn't help, but smile. I might be bragging, but I got the best leadership out of the whole damn Brigade. My 1st Platoon leader is 2nd LT Jason King, but the men like to call him Ghost. He comes from a good small town family in Arkansas. He might not be socially smart, but if you want him to infiltrate enemy lines and leading soldiers and come back without losing a single soul he's your man. My second platoon leader is a short redhead who has a fiery attitude. 2nd LT Jeni Reys, but the troops call her Demon, she will put you into the ground and make sure you are physically capable of doing your job. She won't take no for an answer and has one of the best tactical sound mind to assault enemy positions that i have ever seen and the soldiers willfully follow her into the fire. My 3rd platoon leader was a recent addition after we lost 1LT Jake to a sniper. 2nd LT Billy Greg, but the troops call him Stone, he is the silent type, but he is similar to me. He has a great defensive mindset and is able to hold any position no matter what is thrown at him.

"Gather around. Here is the situation dragons; we believe that the Russians will attack today there is no proof to our claims or Intel provided, but the XO and myself have been through enough bloodshed to know something is coming. 1st PLT will be our quick reaction force. Ensure your men are prepared to move at a moments notice. We expect them to hit the front of the checkpoint hard and try and blast their way through the walls to outflank us. 3rd PLT you will be in charge of manning the checkpoint facing the Russians. Make sure your troops are ready and you have plenty of ammo and mortar zones marked and sent back to the TOC. 2nd PLT you will be our attacking force if they burst from our sides. We have enough ammo and food to last 5 days if need be so don't worry about that. Just ensure your men and women are prepared to face the coming storm. I know…" The sound of artillery fire is heard and yells of enemy in the distance is heard.

" Battle Positions everyone and Snow call up to Battalion and let them know we are under attack".

" Frost I want your heavy fire power to the front with 2nd PLT. The rest of your company have them spread out within the compound to provide cover assistance if the Russians break in. If I fall I want you to lead Checkpoint Charlie till this battle is over."

Frost just nods his head and begins to relay orders to his troops.

As the commander stepped outside, he saw thousands of men and machinery bearing down on their position. His own soldiers running to help man the defensive positions and began to return fire at the enemy. At that moment he felt death closing in around him as the smell of blood thickens around him. As the commander smiles to himself he laughed out loud and then yells, " It's a Great day to die boys and girls. Let's show them what it means to be part of the Demonic Dragons!" As his voice was heard the soldiers began to fire at a more ferocious rate and began to chant the companies motto, " Blood leads to the path of Death and Glory".

As the soldier chant the enemy forces finally arrive at the first obstacle. A trench was emplaced 600 meters from the checkpoint and it was filled with tank traps and barbwire. The enemy forces had to either fill in the trench or create bridges to cross it. The width of the trench was to large to simple be jumped over and the length formed a semi-circle around the entrance of the checkpoint. The trench also raised at the front so the enemy would think it was a small hill instead of showing what trap laid underneath it. The initial force of the enemy charge rushed straight into the trench and screams of the enemy was heard and the bodies caught in the wire could be seen. As the enemy forces began to help their trapped comrades Rey's called in mortar fire to be fired 50 meters ahead of the trench. As the mortars fell groups of enemy soldiers were blasted away and even more screams were heard.

As the commander looked around he could see the newly attached privates were shivering with fear and a small amount of excitement. He yelled at the young men no older than 18 " Why are y'all shivering in fear. This is our battle-zone we control the majority of the battle flow at the start. Use this time to calm yourselves and prepare for the inevitable. I'll tell you something my Platoon Sergeant told me during my first real battle. Don't be afraid of death for that comes to us all, but be afraid of letting down the brothers and sisters to you left and right. Always think one step ahead of your enemy and never fear to give your life to protect our own. Take these words and mull over them and trust in your Non-commissioned officers they will make sure you survive as long as they can. Also don't forget when we die we don't go to heaven or hell we join our brothers and sister in arms in Valhalla where we tell our stories of glory and valor for eons to come."

As he finished speaking he saw in the eyes of these privates, who entered the army to serve their nation and fellow soldiers, that there fear slowly disappeared and was replaced with determination and fire. The battle continued that day with the enemy trying different tactics to cross over the trench without taking a lot of casualties… this adventure proved fruitless. As every time they charged and changed tactics the artillery fire and mortar rounds rained in on the enemy never giving them enough time to study the trench.

Back in the TOC Snow was receiving sitreps from across the checkpoint line that the Russian forces were testing out tactics, but no true push has been made yet. This was concerning to say the least, since this is the first time the Russians decided to take their time in an attack instead of trying to roll over their enemies.

As twilight approached the Demonic Dragons began to change shifts and expected a fight sometime in the night. The commander sat in the TOC reminiscing over the course of his military career and the many battles he has lead and fought in. As he stared into space Snow approached him, " Sir here is the casualty count we sustained today with our current ammo reserves." As the commander looked at her he stated, " No one else is here Snow just call me by my name."

"Very well Daniel. We took minimal casualties today, but the Russian forces are not acting like they used too. I think there's a force behind them."

" I agree. Let Battalion know the main enemy assault will most likely happen tomorrow. One checkpoint will get the full brunt of the enemy force while the others will most likely have above normal forces. Let's pray to the lord that we get the deadliest enemy force."

As Snow look at the commander with sad eyes she states, " While i hate for you hoping we get the deadliest enemy because of the losses we will sustain. I know we are the only force capable of handling that force until reinforcements arrive."

Nodding his head Daniel turns and stares into Snow's eyes, " We started ROTC together and were put into the same unit. We were both part of the initial force our country sent so we both know what is coming. For tomorrow's battle you will pull the TOC back to the Polish Border line and begin to construct the defense perimeter with all Headquarters personal and get with Grey. His platoon will help speed up the defense line. If i am to fall in battle tomorrow I need you to lead the company until friendly forces come. Frost will lead the entire checkpoint, but you need to ensure the company has leadership. So go ahead and get some sleep I can man the TOC until the next shift arrives."

As she took in his words she looked back at him and wanted to say something but held back her words and only said, " As you command." She then walks off to lay down for the night.
