16 Slytherin

As soon as the hat touched Tom's head it shouted Slytherin.

Some were stunned as this was probably the fastest sorting ever, but it was not a big issue as sometimes there are such cases where a student is immediately sorted into a house but it would still take 2-3 seconds.

He smiled as he walked towards Slytherin and there were cheers from the table which had green.

It was great to be back in his old house. Tom had a winning smirk on his face. On the other hand, Dumbledore had a small and barely noticeable frown.

The sorting continued, Tom took notice of 4 more candidates other than himself. First was his one true love Minerva, And as expected she was sorted into Gryffindor. The second was Hillary girl and she was sorted into Hufflepuff. The last was two Indian cousins who were sorted into Ravenclaw.

Their names were Sharma and Verma. Those two were hidden gems, In previous life, they had made their own business empire in the whole continent of Asia from scratch. They had unprecedented knowledge and a knack for trading and business. Nobody, not even Tom knew that they had this untapped potential until it was too late to influence them and the reason was that usually, they were jolly-natured and into pranks so nobody had high expectations from them.

When the sorting ended Headmaster Dippet stood up and gave his speech.

Now before we start the feast I would like to remind all of you, especially the first years that Usually Hogwarts is a very safe place, but certain aspects of it may possess a threat to your life and well-being. These are the two places that are under restricted sections and you will get more details on them from your seniors and house heads. Another thing to note is that there is a restricted section in the library which is only to be accessed by the 7th years and the teachers. It contains many cursed books that can even eat your soul, so I will strongly advise you all to stay away from that area.

In an ominous tone, he ended the speech and the feast started. It contained a Standard British meal consisting of sausages eggs bacon and shepherd's pie.

Tom ate the food in correct proportions and in a respectable manner complete opposite of a certain red hair we know.

His manners were not gone unnoticed by the purebloods and they nodded in approval.

Tom especially put more intent in his eating as there was an unknown test by the pureblood on judging how muggle-born first years are in mannerism and it will play a role in their standing in the Slytherin house.

It doesn't matter how social you are or how many friends have you made, those were Hufflepuff traits. What mattered in Slytherin was how proper you behave, your habits, and your stance. But these also were secondary traits, the most important thing was power. In Slytherin powerful were always respected and they generally had higher positions regardless of their blood status.

Purebloods naturally remained on the top unless they had committed a heinous crime against the Slytherin house. And muggle-borns typically stayed on the bottom but there were instances like Tom where a supposedly muggle-born had attained high position. At least before he unveiled his heritage as Heir of Slytherin.

After the feast ended the perfects led the first years to the house Entrances and eventually, the great hall emptied for the night.
